Virginia Tech added its second verbal commitment on Saturday when wide receiver Sean Savoy pledged to the Hokies. Savoy confirmed his decision with The Key Play. The 5-9, 180 pound burner joins Bryce Thompson as spoils of the "Blacksburg Bash".
"(Justin Fuente) was just real open minded, telling me about what he believed the program could be when he gets everything in place," Savoy told The Key Play in March following a February visit to Blacksburg. "It was good, especially knowing his background. Everywhere he's gone, he's had top offenses, so you know he can do it."
The Hokies continue to address their need at wide receiver on the recruiting trail.
"(WRs coach Holmon Wiggins) said he's got two star receivers, but by the time I get there they're gonna be gone, so I could get a spot, but I'd have to earn it," Savoy told The Key Play after attending Tech's spring game. "It's not gonna be easy, I just have to go out there and work hard."
Savoy joins Hezekiah Grimsley and Kalil Pimpleton as wideout commits in Tech's 2017 class. Caleb Farley and Malik Willis could also transition to WR.
"Lane Stadium is real, it's really what everybody talks about," Savoy added about his spring game visit. "Hokie Nation is real. The way the fans support Tech is crazy. The game was just great, they had people out there tailgating at 6 o'clock in the morning."
The Woodrow Wilson (Washington, DC) product chose Virginia Tech over Miami, Penn State, and other Power Five offers. The 247Sports Composite rates Savoy as a 3-star recruit.

Awesome news - and it's nice to hear him say Lane is what everybody talks about with him being from the DMV area.
You know nobody is bragging about UMD's stadium and atmosphere...
This kid has speed to burn and an attitude. I know he is being recruited as a wide receiver, and he likely will be one. But, I liked his corner film even more. He is a bit raw technique-wise, but he has great hips, attacks the football, and has great closing speed. Plus, the kid gets his nose in there and lays a lick- plays with an attitude. I love this landing.
"the kid gets his nose in there"
Love to hear that report. That phrase is what I consider the definition of a football player. You either are willing, or you are not. Look up "stick your nose in there" and see a pic of DeAngelo Hall. If you are right, and he sticks at receiver, at least we know he is going to block.
I also loved the "they were tailgating at 6AM"! #hokiefansmakinganimpact
I like the 2018 pickups, but I'm just a little skeptical with it being so early that come next year, they may fall out of favor with us, or us with them. So basically, I'd say take these recruits with a grain of salt, cause all they are is early verbals, just like most all other 2018 recruits at this point. But hey, at least we're getting out there early to let these guys know we're interested, and exposing them to the beautiful campus and facilities, and Hokie Nation.
Savoy is part of the 2017 class. I assume you meant to post this about Byrce Thompson, in which case, yes, there are many days until 2018 kids sign their LOI.
Yep, Savoy, Griffin, and Brown are all 2017's!
"The Woodrow Wilson (Washington, DC) product chose Virginia Tech over Miami, Penn State, and other Power Five offers. "
Now if we could add Florida State to that listing, we'd be talk in' !
Savoy might be the prized piece of this recruiting class when we look back on it in 2020. He is an outstanding talent. D-1 speed and some to spare. He might play as a true freshman as a kick returner because there's a lot of talent in the 2016 class already: Deablo, Kumah, Patterson, Denmark.
Yep, the recruiting guys who get the benefit of seeing camp film all say Savoy will be a difference maker.
Damn he's fast
This kid is a baller. Great get.
