2018 QB DeJuan Ellis Picks the Hokies

The Hokies have their second 2018 verbal.

The Hokies now have the second commit of the 2018 class, and second future signal caller, in the fold.

QB DeJuan Ellis of Owings Mills, Md.'s McDonogh School announced his verbal pledge to Virginia Tech Wednesday.

The 6'0", 160-pound quarterback is rated a 4-star prospect by the 247Sports Composite ranking. He most recently visited Tech for the "Blacksburg Bash" two weeks ago. He joins 2017 QB Hendon Hooker as the team's other committed signal caller, and ATH Bryce Thompson as the team's other 2018 commitment.

In an interview with The Key Play in April, Ellis said he previously visited campus on March 31, and came away with an appreciation for Justin Fuente's style when it comes to QB coaching.

"He's really strict about their quarterbacks when he's coaching their quarterbacks, so they're in good hands there," Ellis said.

The Key Play has reached out to Ellis for an interview, and will have more details as they become available.

Is this one of the big commitments we've been waiting to hear about?!?!?!

I selfishly want it not to be so the good news keeps rolling in! Either way this dude looks great for Fuentes offense

You may only have to wait 3 days for it to continue.

In Sam Rogers we trust.

the incoming 2018 class is gonna be a good one...

The 2018 and 2019 classes have a chance to reealllllly good.

In Sam Rogers we trust.

My analysis- I friggin love this kid. Great arm, mobility, and this is HIS team even as a sophomore.

Wow, QB is loaded. I am really high on Josh Jackson. Hooker has Logan Thomas like tools. And now you have an electric running QB with a huge arm committed.

Five star get after it 100 percent Juice Key-Playing. MAN

That's a lot of QB's.

Great problem to have!

That's a lot of QB's TEs

Remember the days of Tyrod-Holt and Logan-Leal as the only scholarship QBs on the roster? Well, there you go.

Five star get after it 100 percent Juice Key-Playing. MAN

Hey now, don't forget JuJu

It was never just Tyrod and Holt.

Throckmorton! He was a walk on, though

It was Tyrod - Holt plus Glennon and Ike Whitaker. 4 pretty highly ranked recruits coming out of HS.

You're right but my answer was more fun. Ike became a receiver when Tyrod showed up, but he was a highly rated QB out of HS.

So how many "QBs coming out of high school" do we have on the roster right now? And how many at any given time over the last few years? Sounds like another good summer thought project.

(I'm talking Sam, Travon, Bucky...was Stroman? This is the level of reach I'm going for)

You are right in that Glennon and Holt were the same class and graduated after Tyrod's Soph year. Howrver in Tyrod's Jr season of 2009 the other QBs were rFr JuJu Clayton, Sr Jeff Beyer, and TE Greg Boone. So yeah depth was potentially a huge problem if we had an injury.

Joffrey, Cersei, Ilyn Payne, the Hound, Jeff Jagodzinski, Paul Johnson, Pat Narduzzi.

They shoulda tried Leal

They did in the UCLA game

I thought that was Motley

How about the one Spring where Randall was the only one? 2004, I believe.

Does he short-arm his throws? If so is that a concern or something that will get ironed out in his next two years?

I notice he keeps his feet still in the pocket except when he needs to move. A lot of poise, especially for a sophomore.

Two things: that graphic is awesome.

I read the O'Connell thing as well. Did he transfer in High School?

The Dude Abides

i read a washington post writer's tweet that he transferred from O'Connell because they are leaving the WCAC... but now i unfortunately can't find it. (it's the allmet sports writer named mark i believe, if that helps find it)

Edit-here:

he was retweeting a pretty solid article at that

This only confirms that the football recruiting staff are reading TKP. #ExitLight18 is the setup for #Enter19 as was written by another TKP member somewhere on this site..

Plan for the worst and hope for the best, not the other way around.

Maybe, but they did have a Twitter poll a few weeks back on what the # should be. Something to that effect was one of the choices.

so why is the hashtag not #EXITL18HT? Is that too confusing for people?

What a brilliant idea. I'm wondering if they just hadn't thought of it, yet

I feel like we now have enough QBs to have one drafted every year between now and 2023.

Never Forget #1 Overall Seed UVA 54, #64 UMBC 74

Wow, 4 star commit and from Virginia. Lots of talent at QB. Nice!

Did Maryland become a territory of Virginia?

Nevermind...I see the issue now.

Virginia usually has a lot of talent, but 2018 is shaping up to be a loaded one, especially with top end talent

I see a lot of Tyrod in this fellow.

Tyrod and MV7 should tweet him.

Marcus shouldn't.

Don't worry they don't allow tweeting in jail.

I do too, but even better yet, I see a lot of Tyrod, in his senior year, in this kid. Using his mobility to buy time to find the open receiver.

HTHokie93

He just transferred from OConnell to McDonogh in Baltimore. Lives in MD.
Kid is a stud. Was one of the best 8th graders in the nation....whatever that means.
MIAA is better competition than OConnell will have now that they left the WCAC.....
And a great kid....

Really impressive footage. Looks like a true D1 QB.

I haven't enjoyed a recruit's highlight tape that much in a while. He's the kind of dynamic athlete that can get other kids to commit and really create some momentum.

Speaking of other kids... He looked like he had a couple playmakers on his team on that tape.

WR #4 was getting a lot of camera time. About 1:50 I think he could have turned and gotten more yards but decided to tackle the defender instead.

Hahaha I noticed that as well. I wondered if maybe they had a little personal rivalry and #4 caught him flat footed and decided to put him on his ass

I got to say it was a good day!

Just watched the HUDL. He's got skills, wow.

Bad/mis-handled snap? No prob, touchdown. AJ Hughes would be proud.

threw the ball about 50 yards in the air, on the run, on both of the bad snap plays. kid has a great arm.

He threw the ball, 50 yards in the air, to himself, caught it, threw up a three-pointer. Boom. Home run.

I mean shit, we are dripping with QB talent

This is not at all a bad problem to have

That read-option about a minute in...WOW

A decade on TKP and it's been time well spent.

Reminds me of Teddy Bridgewater. Always has his eyes downfield and not on the defensive pressure even when moving around in the pocket. I always thought that was a sign of a great QB.
