Awesome news! I've been wanting this game to happen for a long time. Now we still need to find out who we're playing in 2016...
i knew this would happen shortly after joe pa stepping down. he was a large part of why we hadnt played them in the past

I know French will have strong thoughts on this matchup. My opinion, this was long overdue because for whatever reason this couldn't get done when Paterno was alive. VT is making more of an effort to recruit PA, and PSU made a living recruiting VA before Beamer Co. got things rolling.
This is great news. I'm pretty excited about this matchup especially because my of my good friends goes to PSU. Although 9 years is quite a ways from now it should still be a fun series.
I'm really hoping this means the replacement for the dates Wisconsin had to move will be an SEC team. Next pick would be a Big 12 team, preferably Texas, or Stanford, then any PAC12 team after that.
Edit: Had Texas A&M as a Big 12 team.
aTm is in the SEC but other than that I agree. I wouldn't mind seeing UT at all / going to Austin

Just think of the rivalry that would be born. Two of the larger civilian/military schools with the same hard nose football mentality. Great fan bases and traditions.

aTm would be great considering the similarities between the schools, but I want a home and home with Oklahoma more than anyone else in Big 12 country (I know, I know, aTm is SEC, but Big 12 country)

From what I hear it's because JoePa always refused to play Beamer. Not sure what the underlying issue was, but JoePa always rejected that idea.
I heard it was because of the Kevin Jones announcement (took off a PSU sweatshirt revealing a VT shirt).
People up here will NEVER forget that. I hear about it from one guy in particular all the time.
That's really unfortunate because I know a lot of my Penn State friends have wanted to play us for years. Sad its taken this long.
I think it will be funny to look back in 2022 a see how different we (VT and PSU) were then vs. now. Think about it...CFB/Weaver will both the retired. PSU will have the effects of their sanctions well behind them. Not to mention how different the game will be itself...robots, holographic refs, manditory PEDs, hovercraft tailgates...
And Vincent Fuller's son playing safety for VT.

This Game almosat happened in 2006 Orange Bowl , I believe we would have beat them pretty good, we just blew it in the ACCCG agaisnt FSU who finished that season 9-4 we finished 11-2.
My two favorite teams! I'm so excited for this matchup and Ill probably go both games at Beaver Stadium and Lane. I also wish that VT would join the BIG 10 just because I like those schools better....
At first I thought "22-23", that's so far away that freaking sucks. But then I realized late is better than never and we get to play both WVU and PSU at home in 2022.
I like this. I have always heard Penn State is a lot similar to Tech. And we can strengthen or expand our PA recruiting territory
I grew up a huge PSU fan and came to VT because the area was so much like State College.
It really is. The schools are really similar, too. We are both big on agriculture, they have a nice dairy complex, and we both play a defensive/run game-minded style. Both blue collar programs. I always tell the people up here that State College is about 20 years ahead of Blacksburg as far as the development of the town is concerned, so you'll feel pretty much at home but you'll have a lot more suburban-style amenities than Blacksburg has.

Nice...cant wait...My best friend since I was 4 and his entire family went to PSU...for me it was the same but Tech...We have waited for this forever! (We almost played them in 2005 but lost to FSU in the ACCCG)
