Just snapchatted Shai McKenzie....

Told him Hokie Nation Wants You!

and he actually responded! Didn't get a screen shot, just a black screen with the text:

'Hail to Pitt'

This guy is pretty funny, pretty sure is gamertag is 'Drunk on Lean' though...

EDIT: Man you "adults" are pretty damn funny. I'm a 19 year old kid. I play on xbox with these guys, I tweet with these guys, I talk about college football with these guys, and I snapchat these guys. I love college football and I love Virginia Tech, I'm just getting involved.

I just sit on my couch and b*tch. - HokieChemE2016

I thought snap chat was just for sending dick pics?

If only Brett Favre had known...

West Virginian by birth, Hokie by choice

'Hokie Nation wants you' and 'Hail to Pitt' would have different effects if that was included.......

And I thought tweeting recruits was bad, now we have snapchat...

Lol... I thought fans contacting recruits in general, was a bad idea...I would hate to be they guy who tweets a player only to have him respond with "was planning on VT but..."

In general it is a bad idea. I can't keep up with all the changes in NCAA rules, but it used to be pretty close to a violation because there was a vague description of who represented a school and how it could be considered improper contact or something. Some people just think they can recruit a player better than their coaches can. The worst is when those same people trash talk the kid for picking another school.

Why is it a bad idea as long as you keep things respectable? There's definitely no violation in fans tweeting at players - no violation whatsoever. I tweet at some from time to time; I don't continue to tweet at the same one over and over but when I hear of a new target, I'll send him a quick #hokienation tweet and I don't see what's wrong with that. It's cool to be able to gauge where we stand based off their reactions.

Brady Taylor even indicated "twitter love" played a role during his recruitment.

It is in fact a violation. Read the following article: http://www.sportsgrid.com/ncaa-football/tweeting-recruits-ncaa-violation/

As soon as you contact a recruit and try to persuade them to come to your school, you automatically become a booster because you are helping a recruit come to a specific institution, [Oklahoma State assistant athletic director of compliance Ben] Dyson said. Boosters arent allowed to recruit prospective student-athletes.

So if Mom wants their son to go to a specific school, they automatically become a booster and are in violation? If thats the case, then every coach in CF is a booster.

Is that addressed in the article? Haven't had time to read it yet.

Chick Patty w/ Cheese

The rules define permissable relationships. Obviously schools/coaches are permitted but they must follow certain guidelines as in only during certain times and via certain methods. Parents and that sort of thing are, as far as I know, exempt from that rule. So are friends that have a prior relationship with the recruit. Not exactly the same situation, but that's how Johnny Manziel gets away with having his friend be his "manager."

the issue though is the NCAA has no actual authority to name anyone a booster. NCAA has no legal claim over you, me or any fan. I personally don't do it but any individual person can contact any recruit. Only when recruits are given some sort of benefit that the NCAA can actually restrict does it become an issue.

Yea just like players aren't supposed to get paid, yet every major program pays their players outright. I'm talking reality here, not outdated rules; they can't regulate the internet and monitor/trace every tweet. Besides, that rule is intended for fans with power (money), not average joes like me - like I said, reality here.

If tweeting at players is a violation then expect every major program to be on probation in the next coming years, fans of every team do it.

Yeah I'm no NCAA rulebook expert but I'm not real big on this

The NCAA is going to have migraines trying to keep up with social media, especially these self-destructing Snapchat things. I don't know what all the rules are, but I think there are limits on contact between people representing schools (coaches, etc) via Facebook, Twitter, texting, etc. How does one then trace and account for messages that disappear in seconds?

"Exit light..."

Just my $0.02, but I'd prefer to leave the recruiting to the professionals....

...and the hot lacrosse players.

Not the bagman VT deserves, but the bagman VT needs right now.

The whole idea of tweeting/messaging/facebooking/snapchatting/writing a recuit a letter is creepy. They are 17 year old kids that you don't know, leave it to the coaches.

Chill out, I'm 19 and talk to these kids on Twitter sometimes too. Usually it's joking around, we're both college football fans and kids.

*edited for language

I can't fathom why adult fans would tweet or snapchat a 16 year old.

Joffrey, Cersei, Ilyn Payne, the Hound, Jeff Jagodzinski, Paul Johnson, Pat Narduzzi.

I can't either. Good thing I'm not an adult fan.

Pretty sure 19 constitutes adulthood....

Think really long and really hard and you tell me if you think 19 year olds should be considered adults.

Do many 19 year olds act like adults? no. But whether you like it or not, in 3 years, you're in the real world, with real adults, and I hope you start getting used to that idea sooner rather than later.

Haha. My first thought after the poster asked whether 19 yr olds should be considered adults was this video...

I know I didn't. Hear this guy out. Advice worth taking.

In his defense, in 3-4 years that 17/18 year old recruit will be an adult in the real world too.

Just saying...

yeah in 3 years... until then he seems like a college kid just having fun with what this generation of kids does. It is really not that big of a deal and it was clearly just fun between a player and fan.

Commit a crime. Tell me if the courts consider you an adult.

I'm not saying to completely ignore some youthful indiscretion once in a while but Jesus, this whole "I'm still a teenager don't hold me responsible fo anything LOLZ" attitude is bullshit.

For the record I'm 25. Get off my lawn.

Bud I'm not trying to parade around like I'm a little kid. But I know damn well that I'm not a responsible adult. The day will come.

Sounds like the Manziel defense.

I don't know if they should, but they are and I have a big amount of respect for those who act like it.

pretty sure the point he is trying to make is that as a 19 year old college kid he is more of a peer to a 17 year old high school senior than most of the users here.

"I thought the kid right there you're talking to right there played his nuts off."

Hmmm, you might be on to something...

I understand you are a peer and that is how you see yourself...which, frankly, you should since you are 19 years old. But had you said that instead of: "think long and hard about if 19 year olds should be considered adults," this conversation would be on a different track. That being said, I respect social media and understand its prominence since I, myself, am youngish. I just don't feel right about contacting recruits, probably because of my age. What you do is your choice.

Just ask Sandusky!

One of the most judgmental threads we've had here. How about yall just let us tweet and snapchat (for the record, I don't even know how to snapchat) at whoever the hell we want.

VAT3CH, keep on with your snapchats if that's what YOU want to do. If yall don't want to tweet at them, then don't. Don't need to hear/read yalls condescending remarks.

Appreciate it brother. This response has me breathing a sigh of relief that at least someone is rational. I'm 19, snapchat is now a daily part of my life as it is for Shai. He tweets his username on purpose so that his twitter followers will send him pictures and he knows who follows him. No one on this site had a drunk Trey Edmunds come up to them last semester asking where to go party, and no one but me answered him. Please people, I don't want to be an adult, don't make me one.

it's gonna happen brother whether you like it or not. live up your youth now because you got a life of nothin but responsibility and obligation ahead of you. . .well i suppose you still get the occasional night of drunken debauchery lol.

I was lurking, but I had to log in to upvote this because it's so true. So damn true.

The hangovers get exponentially worse/longer with each passing year....... quite sad.

Bob: What would ya say ya do here?

Brad: I already told you! I iron out the minutiae so Justin doesn't have to. I have people skills dammit! What the hell is wrong with you people?

I did get AJ Hughes bat shit hammered on the 4th of July, telling him to chug out of my bottle of WT whilst talking to Augie about Jeff Grimes...

Just keep the dick pics to a minimum.

There is no judgement or condescension in saying: I don't necessarily think it is a good think to tweet potential recruits. Coaches coach, players play, fans cheer. If you want to tweet so be it, although I think the coaches know what they are doing.

“I ought to punch UVa people in the neck. Don’t ever come on my show and brag about your football.”

My two cents on this: Its just a generational thing. Social media is so prominent these days and the current students/recruits are all over it and use it hourly. Shit's changed a lot. Hell when I was in school AIM was the shit and having a cell phone was bad ass. FB didn't exist and texting wasn't a thing yet. As a 31 year old, I have no desire to tweet or snapchat or whatever any of these kids. However, if I was 17-19 I'd probably be tweeting and snapchatting or whatever with these guys too.

I don't want to speak for other people, but I think there is just a concern to staying classy and appropriate when communicating with recruits. If a kid chooses to go somewhere else there really is no need to blast him. Just wish him the best and move on.

All this aside...whats up with the "Hail Pitt"?!?

I think he was joking. I snapped him again saying 'that shit's cold bruh' and he sent me one back saying 'hahahaha'

Throw a really old Vick jersey and that's pretty much a spot on image of what happened.

well played, young one... well played.

There is going to be the natural divide between those who have accepted social media entirely and those who dont. I would wager a guess that those above ~25 on here dislike what OP is doing while those below see it as part of life.

If it is just communication and done respectfully who cares. We are connected on so many levels now through the internet and social media. Most recruits ASK for people to communicate with them and know how to handle the situation the majority of the time.

In terms of the NCAA actually trying to do something about this? I would like to see them try. They have far more important things to worry about. It would be more beneficial for them to change how they word their "rules" instead of trying to follow up on these so-called "boosters"

Row Z forever.

This thread is beginning to come close to the entertainment level of the "Dont deny my pussy touchdowns" thread....

Impossible. I just laughed again from just reading that. TKP Hall of Fame right there. I HATE when people deny my pussy touchdown.

Maybe 'touchdown' is replacing 'homerun' in terms of sex. Just think "Yea, I got a touchdown with that girl last night" or "Bro I got so far with this chick but she cut me off in the red zone"

Sad thing is, I GUARANTEE people are doing this already. Even worse, I'm sure there are some Hokies doing it, pretending to be from loluva or Pitt or UNC or whoever we're in competition for a particular recruit with.

I have no idea why my username is VT_Warthog.

Arkansas blew a 24-0 lead in the Belk Bowl.

Ok so I will admit, I just kind of scanned this thread..but just to make sure we are on the same page:

If I snap chat an 18 year old recruit a picture of my penis with Go Hokies in magic marker on it, it IS a recruiting violation?

Edit: For space constraints I may just have to put VT.. :/

Man this dude is getting wayyy too much hate. It's a fucking snap chat. I probably wouldn't have done it but I'm also 23 and past the age where it's appropriate to treat players/recruits like they're your peers.

The thing with tweeting at/snapchatting players is that they 100% will find it flattering, as long as one person does not overdo it. When individuals are overly persistent or talk shit about a player after they commit, that's when it becomes an issue. There are plenty of weird fans out there that we should be more concerned about.

Five star get after it 100 percent Juice Key-Playing. MAN
