The 2016 Virginia Tech football trailer presented some very demanding challenges. Not only were there technical hurdles, like learning how to create and design a 3D model of Lane Stadium, but cinematic ones too. Figuring out the appropriate way to send off Frank Beamer while introducing the Justin Fuente era of Hokies football was daunting.
Ironically, BilldozerVT handed over the responsibility of the trailer to me this season, just as Beamer, who developed the Hokies from afterthought to national relevance over 29 seasons, gracefully transitioned the program to Fuente last November.
In the end, I conceptualized the idea to bring Lane Stadium to life. I digitally built the Terror Dome from the ground up, as Beamer did with Virginia Tech football. Enjoy the highlights of past seasons and a glimpse of what's to come.

I didn't read the description before watching, but seeing the virtual stadium, I thought it was the beginning portion of a college football game on espn (y'all know what I'm talking about.) From the ground up is just effin impressive. Thank you for this.

The direction taken for this was unexpected, compared to virtually all other hype videos including your own. But, this hype video exemplified this season to a T (maybe to a VT!). Focusing on this year practices and the new era instead of last year's successes, focusing on the Fuente era, building of the Lane Stadium, Awesome. It is time for Fuente Ball.
Yeah, I definitely saw a big difference compared to the last ones, but not in a bad way. I liked the emphasis on spring ball and the new regime.
I really didnt think VT football should go on after Beamer, but this video is helping change my mind

What 3D program did you use to create Lane Stadium?
Cinema 4D Lite. A complimentary program that comes with After Effects Creative Cloud that's otherwise $3,500 to acquire. When life hands you lemons...
Portal 2 had some of the best exposition in any game ever.
Portal 2 is definitely one of my favorite games. It's really too bad valve can't count past 2.
Ah, I see. First off, well done for doing something that complicated with Cinema 4D. How many hours did it take?
Secondly, if you have any interest in future render development here is my suggestion. Stop using Cinema 4D and start using Lumion. It is incredibly easy to learn and very fast real time rendering, and best of all you can script it for end users to walk around like a video game, because it was adapted video game engines. And you can import sketch up models which if you look in the 3d warehouse there is a Lane Stadium model already built. Not the best one but easy to start with that.

Now we see why you needed the extra time to get it finished and it was absolutely worth the wait. I enjoyed the little touches like updating all of the wordmarks in Lane Stadium.

If you followed the Flint water crisis then absolutely, Marc Edwards had some good stories.
Guys, brilliant job. In contrast to some hype videos that are just highlight cut-ups, you guys always put such great effort into the artistry. And this year, you've outdone yourselves. There is a real narrative here, one that builds into the familiar fun-through-the-wall-f*ck-the-world-we're-kicking-your-asses feeling we love to reach by the end.

I have been in a conference all day, and had to spend 15.5 agonizing hours before I could connect to the crappy hotel wifi and watch this. When I get home, I'm going to put this on repeat and enjoy it in all its glory.
I just made the terrible mistake of watching this before trying to go to bed and then I had to look up some of the best Enter Sandman videos and then I had to listen to the Victory March and Tech Triumph and now it looks like I won't actually be going to sleep any time soon because I want to run through a brick wall and stomp on some Flames, Vols, Eagles, Pirates, Tar Heels, Orangemen, Hurricanes, Panthers, Blue Devils, Yellow Jackets, Leprechauns, BooHoos, Tigers, a rising or falling of the sea that somehow gets equated to an elephant, and some Wolverines. In that order with no interruptions.
