Mark Shuman out 4-6 weeks as well.
Beamer may have pushed the boys too much early in camp.
ehh I don't know. I think he is instilling toughness but he isn't usually irresponsible with player health. I think it is just bad luck more than anything. But either way, it sucks.
It's OK to second guess Beamer every once in a while. You won't have to turn in your Hokie Card. I promise.
I'm not afraid to, just saying I think he pushed them at about the same pace SEC schools get pushed. It's a weed out process. Gregory has always had problems with his knee so it's just another injury for him (Sad as it is).
Starters are those who make it past camp. It'll be a season of next man up so we can all sit back and chill until the 31st.

just popped in to post, sheesh!
http://www.hokiesports.com/football/recaps/20130815aaa.html
so i guess kendall's getting thrown to the fire aug 31?
Sucks for Gregory, as it sounds like a career ender. Sucks for Shuman, as his spot will be taken and solidified by time he gets back. Sucks for everyone that we now need two players to block two players on punt returns. I guess Kendall is going to be playing. Soon.
Out of all of this I feel Vandyke's is the worst.
This really blows. Here's to hoping we find the next freshman breakout like Sweetness.
Jesus.
I don't break this one out often, but it feels appropriate once again: http://nooooooooooooooo.com/
I feel really bad for RVD and Gregory, though luckily RVD will be back.
That said, next man up. Let's go.
this says it all. we want to be big boy football, well thats the attitude. NEXT MAN UP, NO LET UP #BEATBAMA
damn i thought rvd was going to have a breakout year, we really needed him
And, drink...
Let me preface this with the fact that I have kids, but is this the guy that the dad on Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs was based on?
You know what? You might be right.
Yup, that appears to be an accurate representation of the current state of the VT football team.
Well shit.
Those that survive will be tougher than Bryant's "Junction Boys"
All because of two lousy sub-par recruiting classes before 2013. THANKS A LOT NEWSOME! *ANGRY GLARE*
I'm guessing this means Mangus is moving to RB permanently?
probably, I think they moved him to receiver just to get him on the field as a play maker because he was behind JC and TG.
They may move him back out to WR if JC gets back in time for Bama and I would think almost certainly after Joel Caleb has served his suspension.
Maybe, maybe not. They moved Caleb there to get another big back. They might keep Mangus at RB to have another scatback.
possibly, but I still think he ends up back at WR officially, though he'll probably motion in and out of the backfield to cereate mismatches. He seems to be more of a playmaker when he gets the ball in space and our coaches are headed towards an offensive scheme geared more towards wunning up the middle.
Man this is bleak. The other OLB listed on the depth chart are Derek Dinardo and Josh Trimble (two former walk-ons). Kendall Fuller in the fire at OLB? Does he have the size to play it full time?
I'm thinking maybe the younger Vandyke will get some playing time at OLB? Not sure.
Or maybe just have Dadi Nicolas take the position, and blitz. Every. Single. Play.
Or Kyle...
This is what I was thinking. Be a huge task starting two true freshman at corners, but Kyle was the man there before!
Yeah that probably would make the most sense...but I feel like we're going to be fucked in the run game if we're essentially running a 4-2-5 the entire game. The dline has to have a monster game in terms of run support.
Well, look at how the defense played against FSU and Rutgers. Using Tweedy, who is small but athletic, and almost a 4-4 alignment, they defended the run very, very well. I think Bud will be able to put guys in the right spots to be successful.
Agreed. Among Bud's good traits, his best has to be his ability to adapt regardless of personnel or opponent.
I think everything happens for a reason. Luckily still early enough to make changes. For example, teller is practicing at OT. Where is French?
Well, on the bright side, we know for certain that Joel Caleb will not be injured during the Alabama game. Silver linings...
I dunno man, we may need to unsuspend him at this rate.....
The team should vote on it. That seems to be the SEC way, and we are playing an SEC team to start. Seems only fair.
I'm in favor of a half game suspension. We will need some fresh legs in the second half.
If we win the coin toss, how close are we to electing not to play? Should we just pull the ambulance onto the field at the 50 yard line in case the coin hits one of our guys in the head? ....of all the dumb luck you could have before bama...its just...
I blame Sean Glennon.
effing glennon...
So that article from sbnation about VT in 2014 jinxed us?
Hey we'll have RVD back then!
Does this mean maybe Kyle moves to olb and we start Kendall and brenden at corners?
I hope Kyle moves to Whip. I wasn't impressed with him at corner last year. He got beat in coverage a lot.
This makes me a sad Hokie :(
This is the essence of football, the ultimate TEAM Game. This is what makes football special its a heartbreaking yet spectacular game. It's sucks for those who are hurt but provides the players and coaching staff an opportunity to continue to grow and get better. Regardless of outcome this is the hand we are dealt and we must push forward and not feel sorry for ourselves
wow. I just got off work and saw this...
Wow. Terrible news. I thought RVD had a real possibility of having a break out year. Huge gap at Whip now.
Kyle fuller is probably the next-best whip, but he would be undersized. Plus, as a senior, it would be an awfully tough thing to ask of him, since he projects best as a CB in the NFL. Playing a season at Whip would really hurt his draft stock.
Maybe one of the walk ons can actually play... Maybe Kendal moves over full time... I don't know. But this is a huge loss, no doubt about it.
I know RVD dislocated his shoulder. But, last I heard he said it was fine. What happened? Ligament damage was worse than anticipated?
I don't know that another team in the country has suffered more injuries than VT in the last 3 years. On the bright side, what appears to be our very best talent is still healthy. Logan, Edmunds, McLaughlin, the Fullers, etc.
We can just have all those guys play offense and defense to fill in the gaps. Problem solved!
Maryland last year is the only one I can think of, 4th string QB who is actually an LB? That has to be THE worst situation I can think of. That being said, this really sucks for us; but like others have said NEXT MAN UP!!
Not going to miss the Twerps, when they leave. And Stefon Diggs, WHY did you have to choose Maryland?!! Really wish he was in our receiving corps...
I agree with the above that Kyle should play whip, but let's say we move Kendall there. What if we moved Bonner back to corner and played Kyle and Bonner there? I think it's easier to mask a deficiency at safety than it is at corner. And I didn't like him at corner but when there are this many injuries and transfers some things have to change. Also, I'm sure Donaldven Manning is regretting his decision to transfer now.
You're idea of Bonner at whip was better. He's a good tackler, but below average in coverage. That way we don't have 2 freshman CB's, while also hurting Kyle's draft stock playing him at whip. Desmond Frye or Der'Woune can step up and fill the FS position.
Yea, I came up with that idea after the one I posted. Bonner to whip seems like the most logical move to me.
what about D. Riley? Would he be a good fit?
too small. would get mauled if he played Whip consistently.

FIRE AND BUD!!!!
All this means is somebody else is going to have to step up. I have a felling our defense will score at least one td in the bama game and create short fields for our offense. We will be fine.
We are going to be fine. I hope someone can step up to play whip so Bud can mold a full game plan. All of these players leaving does hurt the team but we can make it.
