Why tailgate when you can sit in a lecture?
I guess the same reason they drink Zima when they could drink beer/whiskey...they're a "buncha creampuff, bow tie wearing, brie cheese eatin', WUSSIES. They have a LOLUVA football logo under the word "soft" in the dictionary."
most truth Cowherd has ever spoken.
Can't stand Cowherd, but that LOLUVA rant is golden! Whenever I play it I put it on replay so I can hear it over and over again, music to my ears.
I don't quite understand, are you making fun of UVA because they are providing free lectures by some of the best professors in the world (what if they were about dinosaurs, or you know, volcanoes?) before football games? This seems pretty awesome to me, good on them to help spread a culture of learning.
I'm just fucking with you, I'll get back to my brisket and bourbon
Counterpoint.... Beer, bourbon, BBQ, and coeds
Students are only human...
There's a time and a place for most everything. This ain't it!
But that's why loluva exists...so they can do they their own thing on their own grounds.
Campus.
I wonder if they will tailgate before these, come in with a buzz after it has started, and leave with 10 minutes left in the lecture?
I'm at work and don't have iTunes. How can I listen otherwise?
I think this is exactly what LOLUVA is striving for - to only reiterate the fact that their football program has been – for lack of a better term – atrocious, the fans have been apathetic, and that UVA's best comeback to why they are horrible is something related to 'Thomas Jefferson' and/or being an elite- scholarly -striving for more than football- university.
Douchy-ness score:
LOL. They make it so easy for us.
Well, this week's session is sold out so......
Topic:
Larry Sabato, Director, Center for Politics and Professor of Politics, A&S, will look ahead to the 2016 election and how it will shape the country in the years to come. He will discuss the House and Senate, and if Congress will see any major changes after November 8th. He will then turn his Crystal Ball to the presidential election and will address the important issues, key states, and leading characters that will shape the race for the White House.
I'd gladly forego tailgating to sit in on one of his lectures. Larry Sabato is to politics what Dr. Robertson was to Civil War history.
Sabato certainly knows his stuff, but Dr. Robertson is a mesmerizing and moving speaker. Best classes I took at VT.
Yeah, but heaven help you if you show up late to a midterm. I was 5 minutes late the day of the midterm because I hit the off button instead of snooze and he kicked me out. I was so heartbroken and pissed because it was an honest mistake. I was truly mesmerized by his lectures and others sat on their damn computers everyday, but I had to drop the class because of that one mistake because his only grades were the midterm and final. Still burns my ass because that was his last semester and I to retake it with the new guy.
Yeah, when I was taking his classes back in the 70s, he was a known stickler for promptness, but I had a conversation with him at the beginning of my first class with him. I explained that I was commuting and lived over two mountains and had to roll or push my car to get it started. He looked askance, but agreed that if I were late I would figuratively crawl on my belly like a reptile to my seat, but he considered anything after the class started as a distraction. Luckily, many classes in the intro course started with an example of a refereeing conundrum (he was a D1 football ref) and it was a "looser" time and I snuck in a few times with no undue notice.
Too bad for you, man. The first time I realized I was in the presence of greatness came when I was hiding my tearing eyes as his descriptive prose touched my heart, only to hear out loud sniffles from several of the big husky football players in the row behind me. The dude was a VT treasure. I liked that he announced first day that if you came to all of his classes and listened, you'd get a C at worse. If you came to all classes and took notes, you'd probably get a B. If you did both and actually read the textbook assignments, you'd get an A. Laid it out and gave you a choice. I got a B and appreciated not having to read the text to do well in his class. After all, I didn't take his class to learn about the Civil War or get an A. I was there to be entertained and enlightened by a master teacher. He did that.
I was super excited to take his course, and after the first week, it seemed like everything positive mentioned above, then he left to go be the on set historical advisor to a Civil War movie and we were stuck with a TA for the rest of the semester. The worst part was that the TA skewed far from his intended instructions which screwed everyone because we took notes off the TA lectures and were given a Robertson test, so almost half the material covered in the course wasnt on the test and vice versa. I survived it, but it definitely left me with less than enthusiasm for Robertson afterwards.
Having to drop the class for being 5 minutes late one time left me with...um...less than enthusiasm. Yeah, we'll go with that as well. Much nicer than I would put it.
Agreed, I would certainly enjoy that lecture. At like anytime but right before a football game.
#MoreThanTheScore!
I was about to say... on Gamedays? That's a first
You'd be surprised how free your Saturday afternoon is when you don't have a football game to go to.
I've been saddened by that for months, actually.
Me too. That damn honey do list...
Just pour salt on the wound, why don't cha...
And it'll still get higher attendance than their Spring Festival (game)
Mandatory attendance for players to "earn their jersey number"
WHY DO WE LET YOU HAVE A FOOTBALL TEAM?!
To be fair...it is probably more entertaining than their football team.
I'm thinking that they did this so that alumni would have something interesting to talk about after the first quarter of home games.
Smyth: "You know Caruthers, I heard an interesting discussion this morning."
Caruthers: "Do tell! Go on Smyth, tell me more while I pour us another Zima!"
My friend who went to grad school there around 2014-2015 said that Mike London used to host those lectures before every home game about football strategy...

Everyone has already figured out the LOLUVA will go winless in the conference and end up at 3-9 again.
that seems.......optimistic
