Alabama sophomore cornerback Geno Smith was arrested for driving under the influence by the Tuscaloosa County Sheriff's Office early Sunday morning, according to a report on the office's website.
Bond was set at $1,000, according to the website.
Smith emerged as a regular contributor in Alabama's secondary during his freshman campaign and was in line for significant snaps at the Crimson Tide's "Star" position in nickel defense situations. In 13 games, the Atlanta native had nine tackles, two pass breakups and two passes defended.

so how strict is saban really? we always joke about him letting his kids who get in trouble off easy but that's more just the stereotype of sec coaches. he seems like he'd come down pretty hard on these kids but then again he might take an urban meyer whatever is takes to win approach.

Yeah, thats a crock of bs...Saban suspending guys from PRACTICE, but then letting them play in the game. Who cares...let Geno play...he aint' that good anyway!
Maybe he will be drunk and fall down on a deep out to Knowles...

Not sure of the credibility of bamahammer.com, but they expect Geno to be suspended for awhile:
Even if Geno Smith is kept on the team, he will likely be suspended for an indefinite amount of time and will need to work at getting the starting job back. This might be an opportunity for sophomore Cyrus Jones to take control at the cornerback position.

Thanks man, I was on the iPhone posting and got lazy!
Don't worry. I'm sure he'll be back by the 2nd quarter; he's in the SEC.
Anqd truer words were never spoken
fixed above
His suspension is only when Alabama is on offense.

All he'll have to do is take a sobriety test before the game and he'll be good to go.
Maybe, maybe not. Now, so long as he doesn't have to PASS said test, then yes, he'll be good to go.
Did you see Stephen Garcia play the past few years? Game time sobriety is no requirement in the SEC.
Indeed. Anyone heard of Ryan Mallett?
Saben will suspend him from practice like the other starter on defense. I think it was one of the backers..1week suspended from summer camp.

He'll be suspended for their game against Chattanooga in November.
