I don't see going home on Friday and returning on Sunday, missing a scrimmage, as a "misunderstanding." Sounds like he was annoyed at his depth chart position and was thinking of leaving, then decided he wasn't. Both make sense, I'd be annoyed with my playing time too, he's as good as JR Collins has been in his career but Collins can't play DT as well so Marshall gets less time. But, Marshall was smart to come back because he's a starter next year and likely will get a lot of time this year.

All I can say is that I'm glad he's staying. This team needs unity and this could have hurt moral. He's good enough to start at DE and will be a major contributor at DT (or DE) this year as he was last year. Next year he'll start at DE and who knows, with all the bad luck we've had with injuries, he could find his way into the starting rotation this year. Depth is critical right now (for DT). I like the kids with the "team first" mentality regardless of what position they've been recruited as. Step up and play where you're needed! Not only will this benefit the team, but they as individuals down the road.

We should consider it. We have depth at DE but almost nothing at DT. I've heard people mention moving some DE to OLB (Dadi) to get the best players on the field, too. I don't understand all the ins and outs of football (I'm just a casual-yet-obsessive fan), and I certainly won't question In Bud We Trust, but adding flexibility into the utilization of our front four (or even front seven!) would surely calm me down.

I am curious to see how this turns out for him. It worries me when players don't get their share of fame and turn into jealous angry players who go home to mommy. Hopefully this is a maturing experience...you have to earn your playing time--either play harder or leave, but don't come back and act the same way.

It's not so much about earning playing time, I think. He could start at DE, but he also makes a good DT, so guess what? With lack of depth, you're playing DT...
I also think that we're getting better players nowadays, and in Corey's case, he could start at another school, maybe get some good exposure - so he might think that that's the better shot to get drafted. I hate to think that's where his head was, but with playing time being an issue at some of our highly skilled positions as we transition to a deeper team all around through better recruiting, some kids might be thinking the grass is greener...

Yep. I always loved how VT recruited the diamonds in the rough...good character players who put the team first and just played exceptionally hard. I will never complain about recruiting higher talent, but I don't like when players jump ship at the first sight of adversity. Teller is prime example.

Doesn't seem like this issue has been resolved yet.
Email from #Hokies AD for football ops John Ballein says Corey Marshall will take some time away from team to take care of personal matters.— Andy Bitter (@AndyBitterVT) August 19, 2013
Marshall's status with the team will be determined at a later date. #Hokies— Andy Bitter (@AndyBitterVT) August 19, 2013

Why don't we just play a NY Giants style defensive line with four defensive ends?
Then we can send MORE HOKIES to the Giants!
Wasn't that mentioned by the coaches as something they wanted to do, especially on passing downs last year?
