After last weekend I think we can l do without puke orange, rocky top and fumble/NASCAR jokes. It's week three and much like the Hokies the season has been uneven. It might take a couple more weeks before we get a sense of how many and how good the top teams will really be. Good news, this week the games are a lot better in terms of quality matchups..

After the Houston game and with Ohio State on deck, was last year a fluke and is the loser version of Big GAME Bob Stoops, back? If OU is 1-2 before the Big XII even starts, there will be coaching hotseat chatter, because fans are jerks.
Saturday, September 17th
Florida State -2.5 at Louisville
12:00 pm ABC

- This is not heresy, Lamar Jackson is Michael Vick like. I am not saying he's Mike, he's his own man, but there are similarities. This week he's not facing the cuse defense, so we get to see how good he really is
- Speaking of dynamic young quarterbacks, Deondre Francois for FSU looks good, real good. Opponents can't just key in on Dalvin Cook - who has yet to have a breakout game - Francois gives the team balance on Offense. Roh-roh
Pick: FSU covering, barely. Ole Miss gave FSU a test, something that the Cardinals have not seen yet, this will be the Cards first punch in the mouth. Nooner helps FSU too.
***
Alabama -10.5 at Ole Miss
3:30 pm CBS

- I like Swag Kelly, he's a fine college QB, with unshakeable confidence, example thinking he can beat Alabama (he did) and FSU (he didn't) by himself. Another example trying to get with porn star Mia Khalifa, which turned out, not to be a good idea. The FSU defense in the second half of their game treated him better. Ouch. It's not like grove isn't teeming with talent
- Ole Miss has beaten Alabama two years in a row that has to gnaw at Nick Saban. God, can you imagine how much of Lane Kiffin's ass he's going to chew if this game goes South on him? Watching the sidelines is oft more entertaining that seeing how the game unfolds
Pick: Ole Miss getting the points as a homedog. I am not confident, the half point hook got me.
***
Oregon at Nebraska -3.5
3:30 pm ABC

- /Insert Nebraska short bus joke, here ... admit it you'd this own tailgating machine in a heartbeat if not for financial or spousal reasons. For a couple of years now, this is what you thought Mike Riley and Bo Pelini drove to work. A win here and Mike upgrades to a Dodge Grand Caravan
- The incline isn't steep, but the Oregon program under HC Mark Helfrich is definitely sliding back. No doubt in my mind if Chip Kelly were still in charge, Nebraska gets absolutely boat raced
Pick: Nebraska and the points. Year two of real offense, plus the ghost of Pelini's D still there. Cornhuskers will be good this year..
***
Texas A&M at Auburn -3.5
7:00 pm ESPN
- In the year 2016, defense finally returned to the SEC ... or is it the offenses just suck again? I'm going latter, but the hell if i know. I just expect a lot of sacks this game.
- As long as Trevor Knight isn't getting sacked, the Aggies have a legit, D1 P5 QB. That's the game
Pick: aTm getting the points and winning outright, see Trevor Knight.
***
Michigan State at Notre Dame -7.5
7:30 pm NBC

- One of these guys is surly, the other is an asshole. The one who is the asshole is the reason I may get into some fisticuffs when I visit South Bend in November. I have a hard time holding my tongue about Kelly
- Classic matchup of strength vs strength (MSU D vs ND O) and weakness vs weakness (MS O vs ND D). The cliche goes whichever team can dictate the pace and style of the game is likely to win
Pick: Give me ND laying the points, if only because I think they'll be able to score, that's a real question mark for Sparty (even vs this ND defense.)
***
Ohio State -1.5 at Oklahoma
7:30 pm FOX
- This game is going to be hype for OU. Fans with that all day likkered up intensity. The team with their backs against the wall in must win game. All played in the newly expanded Gaylord Family Oklahoma Memorial Stadium. Watching OU enter should be damn cool.
- Urban Meyer lives for this shit. He's ready to rip some hearts out, again. Since 2011 he's 17-8 in top 15 matchup games. Skrong. Even talent vs any coach, I'll take a Meyer over anyone else, including Nick Saban
Pick: OSU covering. Better talent and coaching favor the Buckeyes.

Beer of the Week:

Triple Crossing and Aslin Beer Company Form and Void DIPA Collaboration
Triple Crossing from RVA and Aslin from NOVA make some of the best ipas in the state. This seems to fit in All of the hot IPA buzz words, juicy, hazy, tropical. I can't wait to see how this turns out.
Picks are against the spread.

Beer: I'll either be enjoying the Jungle Boogie by Marz Brewing, a hoppy wheat ale made with Roobios tea, or I'll have Drie Fonteinen's Cuvee de Armand, a special release from the lambic brewer. Or I'll drink both because why not?

Jungle Boogie:
Cuvee de Armand:
nice, i plan on hitting marz when i go to the ND game, along with half acre, 18th street and 3 floyds (locks).
my boy just came back from belgium, dear god the 3f and Cantillon he brought back was stupid. i hope he shares. lol.
This is the only Marz beer I've had, but it's tasty. I'm sure you've tried some, but 3 Floyds is unreal. My girlfriend spent some time in Cleveland last spring and picked up a bunch for me. Their hoppy beers are all unique and excellent.
I was in Brussels a couple months ago and got to tour Cantillon and 3F. Really unique facilities with their cool ships and it's incredible the differences between a 1 year and a 2 year lambic. Sadly, I could only bring back so much. And there were other beers to bring back besides sours! I still have some de Struise as well.
I had planned on 3Floyds for sure during the ND trip, but hadn't heard of where else to try (other than a possible stop at Founders or Bell's). Is Marz that good? Haven't heard of it before.
half acre and 18th street are worth stopping at. mark looks cool, small, eclectic. you are driving or flying?
Driving from Richmond, and spending a couple days in Chicago after the game.
personally, unless a really cool release, i skip the larger breweries.
there are a billion breweries now. batch to batch and what they have on draft affects everything, but if it were me driving and depending on time, these would be on my radar
pittsburgh: the brew gentlemen, east end, hop farm, grist house,
akron: hoppin' frog
cleveland: fatheads, brew kettle
chicago: 3 floyds, 18th street, half acre (the rest, marz, metropolitan, spiteful, revolution, etc depending on time and how close you are to them)
Word, thanks for the advice. The Bell's and Founders trips are more pilgrimages than anything since I've been drinking their beers from my earliest craft days. The smaller taprooms are definitely the way to go, I'll keep an eye out for all of these
If your route takes you through Indianapolis, Sun King is worth a stop as well.

Completely spaced on the Form & Void release. Hope they still have it on tap. Is Aslin the place to go for Nova breweries? I've heard good things from Ocelot as well but have yet to try it.
Florida State -2.5 at Louisville - Lamar emerges as Septeisman winner
Alabama-10.5 at Ole Miss - lightning never strikes thrice
Oregon at Nebraska -3.5 - Oregon's drop off isn't as much as it appears
Texas A&M at Auburn -3.5 - shaky qb play magnified by a dominant d-line
Michigan State at Notre Dame -7.5 - unanticipated consequence of playing ND, I'm actually kind of rooting for them so that they have further to fall when we beat them. (also please expand on reasons to hate Brian Kelly, that sounds fun)
Ohio State -1.5 at Oklahoma - lock it up
And since wife and I will be making a day trip out of the BC game, beer will be hard to come by. So pick of the week may just be either luck of the draw at the Cellar or whatever German Oktoberfest beer they've put on tap for the season.
ocelot and aslin the 2 places in Nova to go for ipas. they make different styles and pretty close to each other. I haven't been to aslin, but hear they are tiny. they need a new joint.

Florida State. I think Louisville could struggle with their first real test of the season, and it will be an absolute shoot out. I hate saying FSU will win, but it seems like the smart bet.
Bama. Ole Miss defense is WAY down and Swag Kelly isn't all that.
Oregon. I think they have the playmakers and have beaten Mike Riley before at OSU.
AUBURN. ALL ABOARD THE GUS BUS REDEMPTION
Michigan State. The Fightin' Dantonio's keep it a low scoring game and cover the spread. Like 16-13, but no clue who wins.
Ohio State. How are they only a 1.5 point favorite, even on the road against OU? Oklahoma has two possible All-American backs and in their biggest game of the year so far, they got 11 or 12 carries. Unless a better OC shows up, anOSU has too much talent for OU by a LOT.
