Virginia Tech Sings Tech Triumph Following 49-0 Win Over Boston College

Dance.

[Mark Umansky]

The Hokies and Marching Virginians had something to sing about after a 49-0 pasting of Boston College.

This is amazing

"The Big Ten is always using excuses to cancel games with us. First Wisconsin. Then Wisconsin. After that, Wisconsin. The subsequent cancellation with Wisconsin comes to mind too. Now Penn State. What's next? Wisconsin?" -HorseOnATreadmill

I love every moment of this. Also awesome is the de facto band leader, Mook Reynolds.

"Exit light..."

There are words?!?

Yeah, and apparently every player on the team knows them!

"For those who have passed, for those to come, reach for excellence."

They must practice that everyday. Moore even knew the words and he's been here two months.

Great new tradition!

Sorry to burst some bubbles, but I am fairly certain the words are put up on the Jumbotron

Plan for the worst and hope for the best, not the other way around.

Hey, at least they weren't playing Frozen. That's a tradition after a win for some Virginia based teams, though it has never been confirmed.

I don't know. I mean, it could be there are words on the Jumbotron, but I saw a behind the scenes story on the University of Alabama about the fight song. Nick Saban has them singing it after every practice leading up to the season opener. Both Alabama's and VT's fight songs are a bit long and complicated, unlike say UGA or Tennessee.

Now, can I confirm that's what Fuente is doing? No, but something tells me they know most of the words.

Be strong when you are weak!
Be brave when you are scared!
Be Hokies when you are victorious!

There's also words to the VPI Victory March, other than "H O K I E S Hokies!"

There's actually two different versions, one from the original composition, and one from the tail end of the Big East day. Though the amount of people who know the lyrics compared to that of Tech Triumph is pretty small...

They tried a new hack version using ACC teams but it sucks and isn't worth learning.

A decade on TKP and it's been time well spent.

The Big East version sucks too.

I don't know anyone who knows the words to Tech Triumph.....Its kind of embarassing. I can hum the tune no problem though.

Am I alone in this?

The cheerleaders and dancers sing it during the Hokie Walk also.

There are! As a bonus, a few of the performing groups on campus have been singing them over the past 5 or 6 years as well (both a cappella groups and the VT Mens Chorus), which is fun.

The words are definitely dated though haha...lines like "Just see our men so big and active", "We know our ends and backs are stronger" were always my favorites.

Just goes to show that we've ALWAYS been a football school.

A decade on TKP and it's been time well spent.

Haha, yeah. VTCC has to learn all the words freshman year before football starts. I definitely remember realizing that we were the only ones singing the words.

Guys, we just put up 49 points on the #1 defense in the country in 2015 (total defense).

They were ranked #10 in the country for 2016 in total defense before today.

Hype train is full steam ahead, and tonight, we happy drink.

#10 #3 in the country for 2016

FTFY

#3 in the country for 2016
Not anymore.

The last time a conference opponent came into Lane Stadium and got shutout by at least 7 TDs?

You gotta go all the way back to September 16, 2000 when Michael Vick and Lee Suggs smoked Rutgers 49-0

Never Forget #1 Overall Seed UVA 54, #64 UMBC 74

This is pretty dang awesome!

I love this new tradition.

I have no idea why my username is VT_Warthog.

Arkansas blew a 24-0 lead in the Belk Bowl.

That first flight is HORRIBLE! Connecting in Chicago???

No, I *don't* want to go to the SEC. Why do you ask?

We don't love dem Hoos.

I'm not actually dropping a grand on a trip to Tampa so I wasn't really paying attention haha.

Whew, I was starting to wonder about you, sir...

If you are going to Tampa, take Allegient Air. Direct flights to Tampa/St. Pete about 1.5 hours and absolutely cheap, right now as low as $43.

This is going to be great for the ACC.

Felt good to be on the good side of a Loeffler stinkbomb. Bud wanted payback for the last 3 years.

I was saying earlier that playing Foster's defense (who were firing on all cylinders tonight) against Loeffler's offense (which looked about like I remember) is like when you play on an intramural/rec league or video game team or whatever with someone who continually plays in a way that doesn't seem like it's right, but the luckily the rest of the team holds them up and supports them in real games. Then they start shit talking and giving out pointers to you and saying things like "I know I could take you if we were to just play each other 1v1 bc you're doing this all wrong, but this is just practice and we don't go for real here", but you keep your mouth shut because you don't want to start something on your team..

Then, finally, you get a chance to play them for real, and within the first few plays they start to realize "oh no...i was the one who was wrong...so so wrong..."

Or they just say they had a bad day, but whatever, you know it's not true.

That was a pickup game of hoops where you're playing a dude who broke up with your sister and you've acted cool about it for a while but mostly you've just waited for the chance to elbow him in the face.

I heard an interview this week asking Bud what it's like to go up against a friend like Loeffler. I was like "Friends?!? They ain't friends. I bet Bud hates that dude."

I loved there at the end of the game when Bud went over and high fived with CJF. You could tell how much Bud appreciated Fuente's offense today after years of having to carry the program.

Using /s is for cowards.

I love this! Wish I could make band alumni day but I'm just a broke grad student.

"Win or lose we'll greet you with a glad returning!"

I think the hype train has officially left the station. It's a new era.

Hakuna Mihota

The Dude is real. You just don't do that against BC.

This is going to be great for the ACC.

Too bad our Alma Mater is nearly impossible to sing for the average person. If there's one VT song I could change it would be that one. For instance Ohio State has one heck of an Alma Mater. Love that we did something to push the lyrics of our fight song though.

We wont win the race until a trophy is in the case!

Shout out to the Marching Virginians!! They are truly part of what makes this campus so fantastic. What a great atmosphere to be a part of. SALUT!!!!!

"Don't go to, go through"

Remind me to call my doctor in 4 hours

Keep calm, Gobble on

There are a lot of good games on right now. But I still just want to rewatch our game.

Did anyone see Marshawn pumping his fist in the huddle in the 4th quarter to H-O-K-I-E-S HOKIES?

Awesome sauce.

As a former MV I'm really honored by this. I don't recall the team ever doing something like this before now, and I was part of that squad that went to the 1995 Sugar Bowl.

And to those of you that are surprised there's words beyond "Hokie, Hokie, Hokie, Hi!"... there's even a second verse ;)

Fight, men, oh, fight, men, we're going to be the champions
Adding to our list another victory;
Football or baseball, the games in which we star,
They're the sports which made old VP famous.
Hold'em, just hold'em, you know the Corps' behind you
Watching every movement that you make.
Winning games was nothing for our teams before you --
Keep the "rep" for VP's sake.

Well done sir

I'm somewhat nauseated at the side swipes at lefty. You have no idea how much he helped us his time here by upgrading our talent. The only reason our offense was good and that fuente had weapons is because of the work he did.

Agreed

So he recruited some guys and didn't do anything special with them. Seems he's fine as a QB coach and that's his ceiling. Who did he recruit that stayed? Seriously, I don't know. (edit: best I can tell it's Shai McKenzie and a couple of QBs who are gone).

Umm Jackson, Durkin, Gallo.

Wet stuff on the red stuff.

Gallo was part of Grimes' "Fab Five Four". Not sure Loeffler should get credit for him. And as much as we love Durkin, he hasn't exactly done much of note on the field and isn't even playing the same position that Loeffler recruited him to play.

"Nope, launch him into the sun and fart on him on the way up"
-gobble gobble chumps

"11-0, bro"
-Hunter Carpenter (probably)

Impressive list...

I just sit on my couch and b*tch. - HokieChemE2016

Just established it's cam, Ford, Shai, marshawn, mclease, Jackson, teller, Bucky...

Now these are good examples, except Teller who was recruited by Bud.

"Nope, launch him into the sun and fart on him on the way up"

"11-0, bro"

Sauce?

Rivals shows:
Cam - Moorehead
Ford - Moorehead/Wiles
Marsh - Cornell
McClease - Stiney
Teller - Foster
Hodges - Stiney
Jackson - Fuente

These were guys that all came to Tech because Loeffler had an actual offensive system with the ability to get guys open and stretch the field to open the running game. Before Loeffler came on board we were struggling to recruit talent on the offensive side of the ball. Recruits had picked up on the fact that Stinespring's offense was just a grab-bag of elements that worked fine in isolation but didn't add up to a cohesive system... Just because Moorehead recruited Phillips and Ford (oh look at that, WR coach recruiting WR's) doesn't mean Loeffler didn't have a hand in it.

Now, sure did Loeffler struggle to implement that system in an effective way? Sure. But it was a legit system that was light years ahead of what we had before.

Although the Loeffler comments are perhaps in the wrong thread, you make a good point.

Edit: I'm moving my other comments on this to the other thread.

who exactly did lefty recruit that is paying dividends? Most QB's he recruited are gone (Jackson Rs'ing, durking at TE). If you are talking about ford or cam he didn't recruit either of them. Bucky? Not him either. Wyatt? That's Bud Foster's recruit. Giving him more credit than he deserves saying he recruited all this talent. When we even have guys like CJ carroll out there making plays it's hard to take this post seriously. Scheme, play calling, etc. are helping to make even our talented guys look even better. Something lefty could NEVER do.

Love it! I always worried that I was the only one that knew the words. But as trivial as this looks it shows that the players are buying into Fuente's vision!

I was looking forward to recording this the entire 4th quarter and I'm glad I was able to sprint back in time for it.

For some background, I'm 95% sure the team learned the words for the Bristol game, as the winning team was supposed to "sing their alma mater in front of their band" according to the media program we got. The obvious benefit is we now get it at home too.

I thought I remembered the team doing this after we beat Liberty as well. Very well could be misremembering though.

"...When we step on that field, they bleed like we bleed and we're gonna show the world."
-Corey Marshall

They did.

But "Tech Triumph" is the fight song, not the Alma Mater (which I thought they had been doing for a while after games).

Whoops, you are right. I may be mis-remembering the specific, could have been "winning team sings in front of their band" instead of sings alma-mater. In any case, singing was promised.

That video was truly amazing. The players are buying into the program and Fuente. This video and all the times all the players would run up to the stands waving their hands up to get the crowd pumped up after a big play just kept on giving me goosebumps.

I know its only 3 games (and should be 3 wins) under Fuente, but I think we are seeing something special in the making.

Bleeding burnt orange and chicago maroon

I like what Fuente is doing with this team.

What a great football game to show the potential of this team. They've got talent AND spirit, and look like they're having a great time.

A few of them were doing it, but come one the helmet pump looks much cooler than clapping!

Also Ive never really understood why Dave and the MV's like to play Tech Triumph so fast, was always just felt weird in the combined performances.

It warms my heart so much though that the players got on board with singing the da-da-duh-dut trump break between the verses.

The tempo of Tech Triumph for the MVs versus the HTs always reminds me of this:

So does this mean folks will finally realize that the words at the end are not "Tech, Tech, V-P-I"?

Win the games you are supposed to win and half of the ones you are picked as the underdog and we will be fine. Right now, we are right on schedule. The video is great and I hope to see it a lot more. Go Hokies and beat the crap out of ECU and please end this series..

This is fantastic. My dad cheered for Tech in the 80's so he made sure I always knew the words to Tech Triumph. Glad to see Fuente pushing a little more tradition on to the team.

"Now Miami wants to talk about it." *Cue Enter Sandman*
