Jerod Evans TD run comparison

I saw that several people were comparing Jerod Evans and his run today with Cam Newton and his run against LSU in 2010. So I decided to quickly throw the two together side by side.

Jerod's was beter. I may be biased, but he broke a few more tackles and it came from a broken play... not a designed run.

Arkansas blew a 24-0 lead in the Belk Bowl.

Both were very impressive. But there is something to be said for doing it against a top-10 LSU team

Good/fair point.

Didn't realize how much speed Cam had back then. Obviously, he's an outstanding runner in the NFL, but man he ran away from people in college. Wow.

Part of it is also that the NFL has faster players across the board. Cam's still pretty fast.

Yea, 4.6 40 is pretty good for a QB. What was always hilarious though was Blaine Gabbert had nearly identical measurables at the combine.

Rip his freaking head off!

Would the TD have happened if the ref wasn't there for the block at 0:05?

Looks like Evans had much more of a crowd to get through.

This is going to be great for the ACC.

Can somebody ended the tweet from Andre Davis show two 87 yd returns 16 years apart. I promise to learn to do this when I sober up.

"Don't go to, go through"

This is sweet!! 10 legs if I had them. Stroman quieted the critics and sparked the win today!

Thanks Hokie20 you're the man!!!

"Don't go to, go through"

Sixteen years, holy crap. I remember riding the bus in 10th grade that day couldnt wait for that Thursday nighter.

Evans' run was great, loved every second of it and rewatched it on DVR about 30 times.

But Cam Newton's run was/is iconic. The fact that Evans run instantly reminded me of a play that took place over half a decade ago is proof of how unforgettable Newton's run is. Evans had to do more work on his run and make more people miss, but that's in part because Cam is a better athlete. When Cam hit that last gear and got across the goaline... goosebumps every time.

There is a lot going on in that replay. Watched it dozens of times. Teller clearing it out coming back towards the cutback. Gets a bit of a block from the field judge to start the fun. One thing I noticed after several reviews is that Nijman and Cam are hauling downfield to block for their boy. This team really works together and loves to celebrate the team accomplishments. Ford is always there for his guys. Both when Cam scored earlier and when Evans broke that run.

Watch out, ACC. These guys came to play this year.

Evans run was better till Cam accelerated across the goal line. That was just an awesome run, I knew the Heisman was his at that point. You dont typically do that to those good SEC defenses around that time. Evans' was cool and very good, and hopefully he will have a Cam moment down the road.

The quadruple jab-step to juke those last four "tacklers" was pretty sweet

the numbers don’t lie and they spell disaster

My son commented that the jab-step part of the run made it a "Madden run".

Nobody mentioned Bucky blocked 2 guys as well, one in front of Evans and one behind him.

Great blocking effort by everyone on that play!

But Evans is playing against one of the better G5 teams, while Cam was playing against an LSU team that finished the season 11-2, #8 in the country, with a top 5 defense.

I refuse to even buy a ticket for this hype train until we beat UNC... Then I'll think about.

At this point we've only beaten marginally better teams than Miami has. Lets see if we can beat a real team before we buy tickets to the ACC championship game.

Also Miami has no business being top 15 till they beat someone.

Miami's ranking is surprising given who they've played.

Watch out, ACC. These guys came to play this year.

The whole attitude thing.

A leg for blackout.

Even when you get skunked; fishing never lets you down. 🎣

I guess the coaches are still hammering ball security. I like the attention to details though.

The thing I liked about the run was how it mixed power, speed, shiftiness.
To see that many changes in direction was cool, then also adding in the
power element to get through tackles, etc.

When Jerod runs the football, I immediately go back to Bryan Randall. His running style isn't as sexy as Lamar Jackson, but he is very efficient, strong and just elusive enough to make you go, "Wow!"

Is coronavirus over yet?

Couldn't have said it better myself

Randall also made everyone around him better. Right now, Evans is doing that as well. Yes, he overthrows them occasionally, but when he hits on those deep patterns, oh my word is he dropping dimes. Those mortar shell passes are hitting guys in stride where only they can catch. Its been so much fun to watch.

But yeah, that run was unreal. And I dunno, but from the bar, the game last week, and especially that moment... I dunno, I'm starting to feel like we have something special going on right now.

Evans is the real deal! I thought this when I saw him live at the BC game but this past Sat. makes me believe it that much more. I was watching the game on TV and didn't get to hear Jon Laaser's call on the radio for this play. Anyone know how to find this?

VOR

You hear it on the InTune Radio App.

Or you can watch it and hear the call on Hokiesports.com's ECU highlights.

Let's Go...

Thanks guys! It was definitely a great call by the Lasser! Evans may very well be Houdini!!!

VOR

This is the highlight of the year so far.

I just had to comment to bring it to the forefront of TKP articles during the bye week. You're welcome.
