Housework Thread, or What you did on the last Saturday w/o Football

I spent today gardening. Well, more like excavating dead shrubs and bushes from the front yard / patio area of my house. I also trimmed the bushes with hedge clippers. All told, I'd say I trashed about 200 pounds of dirt / shrubbery / old mulch. Then my wife and I went to Olive Garden (tour of Italy) and watched Elysium.

Elysium was entertaining, but full of plot holes.

Anyways, next week...

Slept in. Cleaned for hours. Went to the grocery store. Made dinner and now finishing the race and catching up on TKP!

Carried old file cabinets. Ate vegetarian chicken salad. Then went to Burger King and got a Whopper. Played ultimate frisbee with my 8 year old nephew. Lost. Then babysitted while SusieQue went to the Barter Theater.

Resurfaced the pool deck. Stalked a car that had VT logos all over it because no one is a VT fan in south florida without me knowing about it (invited them to my house for the game). Landscaping. Made a VT football helmet mock up. Prepped for the party of the year at my house for the BEATBAMA game.

ADVERTISEMENT: If you live in south florida, come to my house to watch the bama game. There will be Yuengling, PBR with limes, Bourbon, smoked ribs, chicken, and a pork butt. My wife's famous cheese dip, and a veggie platter because she is a dietitian. I have a pool and 3 TVs playing all relevant games at all time.

Makes me wish Id stayed working at disney. Went to the Miami and bowl game last year with the Central Florida Hokie Alums (shameless plug), and you Floridians certainly know how to treat people.

Damn, how long of a drive would it be from NY?

where exactly in south florida?

Drove from Lynchburg to Richmond to buy cymbals for my new drum set. Then I enjoyed the day in Short Pump with milady. Got a good deal on some Reef flippy floppies. Bought a toy for our pup. Also bought a protractor, ruler, laser pointer and some air heads from Five Below, you know - necessities.

Also, no you cannot put your nut sack on my drumset.

I have no idea why my username is VT_Warthog.

Arkansas blew a 24-0 lead in the Belk Bowl.

Bought a new car. But pretty much every other Saturday since December has been...

Damn. I'm still having trouble finding the 4th one.

El Cuando (my husband's brother) came to visit. He lives in Tennessee, so he brought moon shine. Finally bought our tickets for BeatBama. Anyone sitting club level?

Live for 32. Ut Prosim. Let's Go, Hokies.

El cunado! Ah the league was a lot more entertaining than I thought it would ever be.

Worked. Checked to see if it was time to #BeatBama. Worked some more. Checked to see if it was time to #BeatBama. Day kinda went like that.

Did some shopping, watched the first half of the Skins game, went to see The World's End (hilarious to the nth degree), then watched the second half of the Skins game.

+1 For the World's End. I assume you've seen Pegg and Frost's other films? If not, go watch Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, and Paul RIGHT NOW.

Yes, I definitely have, there are all hilariously awesome. If I hadn't been so busy, a drafthouse up near me had shown all 3 main ones (Shaun, Hot Fuzz, Worlds End) back to back on Thursday. Those 3 + beer in movies would have been epic

My local movie theater had the marathon as well but the girlfriend said she couldn't stay in a theater for that long (even with me insisting there were intermissions).

Mowed the yard, watched a couple of the highschool showcase games, and tried out my #BEATBAMA party purchases

Glad to see another Hookah lover on the site!

I told myself I'd quit that habit once I left Blacksburg, besides, I don't think a hookah place exists (at least not in NOVA) that will ever compare to Shesha in my mind. But I know that next time I'm in town, stopping by my old haunt will be a must.

Flew from CA to VA, got to Blacksburg, sat down and watched some football.

Went fishing at the ocean view pier in Virginia all day. Watched the nascar race tonight (YES I WATCH NASCAR!)

Rode down to UVA on the motorcycle to get a pic of the bike next to Scott stadium for my Moto stadium challenge.

slept in a little bit, ate a bowl of cereal, played one of my computer games from the late 90s, ate a scrambled egg and cheese sandwich, went into my second job to fill in for a guy who is out sick, took my break and ate cheesy potato soup w/bacon bits while reading Bitter's blog for today on my phone, finished work, came home and took a shower, ate "Orange Pork" with rice and broccoli while watching 3 episodes of Buffy the Vampire Slayer with my wife and catching up on today's Key Play posts.

Grilled some italian sausages and then went downtown..... not as boring as housework!

Eastern Market, cleaned the house, watched the skins game, smoked chicken wings, bookers, drank beer, more bookers, more beer............ FIN!

Went shopping with the girlfriend in roanoke for 4 hours but was rewarded with prime rib at Longhorn. That will change this Saturday however.

Kegged a Belgian Dubbel, brewed a galaxy ipa, went to watch Danville Braves, and drank homebrew like it was the first Saturday of football season.

After working on the yard I played the entire Del Mar card (I discovered that horse racing is an excellent sport to pay attention to and fills the football void) and watched my beloved War Dancer lose in the Travers at Saratoga.

Worked in the yard. Hung a little drywall. Then bunkered down while the new crop of students overran State College.

I played trumpet, marched, and got sunburnt for about 12 hours yesterday. Only 6 more days till I'm yelling in the Georgia Dome and I already feel like I can run through walls from the excitement. I hope LT3, JC, and Edmunds feel the same way.

Also, I got to listen to the new sound system in Lane from the MV field, and even from outside the stadium it sounds so much better. If they had tested it with Enter Sandman I might have lost my mind in the middle of practice.

Took a couple shots of brown liquor, ate sugar straight out of the bowl, field dressed a cat.

Not the bagman VT deserves, but the bagman VT needs right now.

Went and picked up 2.5 yards of pea gravel and spread it around our recently installed above ground pool. Bought two whole chickens and drooped them off with my neighboor so he could start smoking them. Got in the pool with my son, another buddy and his daughter. Listened to our wives talk shit about us while we drank roughly 17 beers apiece and then the neighboor and his family came over and swam and we ate smoked chicken.

Was on end-of-summer trip with the kids (before school starts back tomorrow) and woke up in a cabin in SWVA; for lunch I helped with an 80th b-day party for Grandma, then drove home then did a lot of house work, fell asleep exhausted at 9:30

Watched the Redskins, ate steak, drank bourbon

@historyhokie.bsky.social

Missed the skins game to be at my gfs grandmothers birthday party, but its ok, I went to the skins/steelers game on monday without her.

Also, those in the Blacksburg area, the volleyball team opens up their season with a tourney on Friday/Saturday in Cassell so come out and cheer them on. Then, of course, leave and go watch BEATBAMA because lets be honest, there is going to be no one there those last two matches.

Like any non football weekend I just brew more and more beer! This is my holiday spiced beer which will be ready just in time to beat LOLUVA and make it 10 straight! #DecadeOfDominance

Wrote on some music video treatments, cut grass, kids pool time, grilling and checking in on TKP and Bitter site to see anything about the scrimmage. Also analyzing the cached Wed Scrimmage video I had recorded before they took it down.

My fantasy league had its draft Saturday. Snagged David Wilson in the one of the later rounds, Im very interested to see how he does this year.

My team name in both of my leagues is David Wilson's Backflips so I pretty much have to draft him.

Ran a bunch of errands, cleaned the carpet, stripped and repainted the smoker to get ready for our #beatbama tailgate. Then watched Cloud Atlas, my brain is still spinning...

Was lucky enough to be invited by RealDiehl to enjoy in both of these things as well.

I then proceeded to lay around and do absolutely nothing becuase from here on out my weekends are going to be more tiring than the regular work week and I expect to get no rest during them, but I CANNOT WAIT!!!

Went to a wedding. Drank copiously.

It was like training camp for my liver.

Enjoyed a day of vacation.

In Sam Rogers we trust.

Disassembled, transported and reassembled a universal workout machine that a friend gave to us (which made me too tired to actually use it, god DAMN those pullleys), pulled out a couple small trees and dead azaleas to prep for some grass and plants that I'm putting in in a couple of weeks and currently slow cooking some lechon asado pretty much just so I can make myself Cuban sandwiches the rest of the week. Oh, and I cleaned some toilets, which was, basically, the high point of the weekend.

Got fucked up.

I pooped. Twice.

Mother in law's 60th b-day followed by helping a friend move. Both sound terrible, don't they? Well, luckily they didn't happen this weekend, so I'm pretty pleased that I'm done with all the bullshit and can squarely focus on the upcoming weekend.

Friday night: Home Depot trip to prep for house work. Saturday: slept in a bit, then hit the yard. New lawn mower performed beautifully. Weeds pulled. Bushes trimmed back. Chased dogs with assorted lawn tools (always a good time).

Then I finished my preparations and went and proposed to my girlfriend. Celebrations ensued:

celebrate

Now let's make it an even more epic week and just #beatbama

Spent WAY too much money on textbooks for the semester. Are these intro professors seriously making me pay 150+ for a book I'll never use once the course is done?

No, they're making you spend 150+ for a book you will NEVER use.

Saturday - birthday party for a 1 year old
Saturday Night - slept at the in-laws
Sunday - birthday party for a 7 year old
Sunday Night - watched way too much disney junior because my 2.5 year old was too exhausted to do anything else and it was too early for bed
