Here are the Heisman candidates as of this week.

Jerod has better numbers than 2 of the quarterbacks on that list with 14 total TDs 970 pass yards and 209 rushing yards. So if we keep winning and Jerod keeps the numbers up I see no reason why he shouldn't be on that list. Also here is a Jerod hype video I put together.

Awesome video! When we win out Jerod will get the recognition and hardware he deserves.
It will sort itself out in the end. It's easy to get overlooked when the ACC is pretty deep at QB this season.
Are we really surprised he's overlooked? Really?!
No, and I'm not even sure he's being overlooked. He's getting recognition, there have been half a dozen articles this week on QB'ing in the ACC vs. the SEC.
No, he's not getting the attention that Lamar Jackson is, but Evans isn't as good of a player either. He's not getting the attention that Watson gets, but Watson earned it under the brightest lights last year.
The Heisman list in this post is ridiculous, Ward has only played about 6 QTRs so far. Right now, it's Jackson, McCaffrey, Barnett, Peppers, Cook, Watson. Maybe Ward can get back into it once he's fully healthy. Chubb and Fournette look to be out.
I would say the most overlooked guy is Jake Browning from UDub. That's a top 10 team and he's got numbers better than Evans in every category (okay, he has 2 ints' to Evans 1). I'm looking forward to tuning in Friday night to see Browning vs. Stanford on ESPN.
Great video, we love Evans. But I'm not worried about him being overlooked just yet.
You weren't wrong. Two is bigger than one.
When you say Barnett did you mean JT Barrett?
Yep. I even paused to try to remember that correctly and still got it wrong.
He's my pick for Heisman. I dont think OSU will lose
I think Lamar will still win it even if UL drops a game or two. His numbers are absurd, and look at Johnny Football. His team certain wasn't a threat to win it all, but he won.
Due to the arrogance of all of the OSU fans I've known over the years....I'll go with calling him Barnett.
cds7c, I haven't logged in in a long time but I'm a life long lurker and I want to let you know that you're the best non-staff key player to do it. That UDub/Browning clinic tonight is just the most recent indication of you being the man, but trust me, this post is not solely motivated by your comment above. You've been dropping realness on this community for years; unaplogetic Hokie love in a harsh but prideful way that I wish I could pull off. Your posts give me reason to keep coming back. Thanks. Go Hokies
Edit:
PS - While I'm here, Hokie 17 this video is super dope. Evans is the truth. I can say wth conviction the following: Evans > Brewer >>>>> Thomas. TKP hated me for being honest about LT though. Also, Fuente is the fuckin man!! Told y'all that the legend Beamer needed to retire years ago. TKP hated me for saying that too but hey, somebody had to say it. I even said it with an actual Beamer autograph as my Avi. An autographed ball that I'm looking at right now because I actually own it because I love Beamer and what he means to VT... because I've never been anti-Beamer.
BUT at the end of the day we got Fuente who seems like a great fit so it's all good. Not sure if he's that national championship caliber coach but he's crushing it so I'm all in on Fuenteball. And I know it's just 4 games but fuck all that, this is the best I've felt about Hokies football in about 5 years and I know I'm not the only one. Go Hokies
Well the only national spotlight we've had so far is an 18-point loss, so
All of the players on those teams are undefeated and most are in the playoff conversation. Like you said win and he may get consideration if he keeps it up.
The problem with the Heisman is that it's normally given to the best player on the best team.
I agree with most others, win out and maybe he'll get a nod but I doubt it unless one of the guys on the current list has a horrible game and falls off.
It's pretty similar to the pre-season rankings that everyone says "don't matter". But they do because teams outside that have to fight to get ranked and ranked teams just have to maintain to not fall out. Plus they say they don't matter yet they bill those games as big match ups due to the rankings. Though this is probably worthy of its own thread there are teams that wonder how they are even ranked and how VT is still on the outside looking in.
Edit: great job on the video. Liked showing the other teams while the Fuente speech is in the background talking bout other programs.
YOU made THIS!?
Very well done, my friend. Two hooves up. Looks like mstrawther and billdozer have a bit of competition, eh?
It would be amazing if the ACCCG was a de facto finals for the Heisman.
Dude what software do you use to d/l the videos? And what are your sources of said videos?
I just used imovie on my mac to make the video, and I got all the clips from various youtube videos
Yes I was asking what software do you use to d/l the youtube videos onto your cpu?
I don't know what he uses, but I often use keepvid.com to download YouTube videos when I'm making GIFs.
I love his eyes at 1:47 during the play-action. Eyes on the prize my friend.
That's a kick-ass video. Well done!
970 pass yes's is very impressive. I've never even heard of anyone getting one before.
(Sorry, but I had to).
Autocorrect, it'll get after ya
You're not going to get much Heisman love when your team is unranked. Had we beaten Tennessee, you better believe he would be up there.
That said, keep winning games, and it won't matter what anyone thinks, they'll have to talk about him.
Shitty thing is his one interception went right off the hands of our best reciever.
Does anyone think this has to do with us not being perfect on the deep throws. I don't think it's necessarily the best player on the team, if that was the case no one at Alabama should win it. I think it's a popularity contest and who performed at their best in Prime time. Last year, lot of sports reporters admitted they didn't watch late games involving Christian McFrey. There are definitely some biases.
My opinion at this point is Lamar Jackson
At this point it also has a lot to do with what teams you've played. Getting loads of TDs versus Liberty, BC, and ECU isn't going to weigh as much as getting (relatively) stuffed versus Tenn.
The other QB's on the list have not had large production drops when they played their best teams.
If we continue to put up gaudy numbers when we play good competition, he will end up in the conversation. Right now, versus ranked teams.
Lamar Jackson: 5 TDs, 216 passing yards, 146 rushing yards
JT Barrett: 4 TDs, 152 passing yards, 75 rushing yards
Greg Ward: 2 TDs, 321 passing yards, 1 rushing yard
Jerod Evans: 1 TD, 214 passing yards, 18 rushing yards
Puts the rankings into perspective slightly. If we get into better opponents, and keep crushing, Jerod will get love. Early season Heisman ranking is garbage anyway.
If we were 4-0 (probably better stats for him with less turnovers vs. UT) and ranked, he would definitely be in that top 5, simple as that. That one loss on national primetime TV and not being ranked is what's holding him back
Just another point to make when people say that they dont care if we are ranked.
Awesome video. Sadly, I think wins go into the Heisman way more than people realize. Both JT and Greg have prime time wins over Oklahoma while Evans only prime time game was a loss to UT. You'll see Evans up there if VT keeps winning and beats a ranked Miami.
The crazy thing is, with Jerod and the offense as a whole. I dont even think theyre close to what they could be.
Weve had some critical dropped passes, sloppy blocking, poor deep throws, some missed opportunities, a lack of consistency in the run game....and were STILL killing it on offense.
All those things are to be expected, were Year 1 Game 4 into the Justin Fuente era, but the thing I didnt expect is to see us outscore opponents 103 - 17 in a 2 game span. We scored 87 unanswered points in 6 quarters...EIGHTY SEVEN UNANSWERED POINTS. YEAR 1 GAME 4........So much hype.
Great video, very well done. Kudos!
Awesome video!
Now can someone make a highlight video of Bucky's diving/falling down catches?
He just won Manning Award Quarterback of the Week Honor
He beat out Memphis' Riley Ferguson and Trevor Knight of Texas A&M, among others, by a lot.
neat
Ward lit it up last night! An impressive performance.
From ESPN: "32-for-38 passing, a career-high 389 yards, three touchdowns and zero interceptions. He ran for 65 yards and two touchdowns on 12 carries, and dazzled the crowd by zigging when UConn's defenders zagged, showing off his quickness and agility. And of Ward's six incomplete passes, two of those were drops."
This isn't hurting his status either: "After securing his FBS-best 18th consecutive win as a starter, there's no question Ward is one of the nation's best players."
We keep winning, Evans will be in the conversation, but I think he has a lot of ground to make up to be a serious contender this year. But next year........
Dope Video!
I enjoy watching Jerod Evans. But right now Lamar Jackson is leading the race. Even Isiah Ford has a larger sample size to be Heisman candidate. We have to wait deeper in to the season or next season to start Heisman conversation. Win baby! Win! The media will be forced to recognize Jerod talent.
I was looking at SI today under college football /stats / passing. Looks like our man Evans is rated the 3rd highest in CFB. The list is goofy as the day is long and I can't figure any logical reason for the order but you will find ratings in the far right hand column. Check it out.

They took out games against FCS teams (at least for Lamar Jackson they did), so when you do that for Jarrod he isn't even close. And he's not even close right now even if you included those.
FCS teams? When did Lousiville play LOLUVA?
No, they're Div. II. Hard to keep track of these things, I know.
I really wonder what Jerod's stats would look like if he had been playing 4th quarters like Petrino does with Jackson even in major blowouts. I have no doubt about Jackson being on top right now, but Petrino is definitely milking his cash cow until the last drop, while Evans has rested.
I'd rather keep Jerod healthy and win games personally, but there is a game in promoting your guy for the Heisman. Jerod has a much better completion % than LJ, by like 10 points, but LJ has mastered Petrino's system. We haven't seen everything Jerod or this offense can do yet, and that's what has me excited.
First up is Jerod and Bud showing up Trubisky and the heels. Then things would get real. Everything else will fall in place after some big wins.
