VT screws up ticketing

So I got to the Cassel ticket office today at 7:30 to get my Bama tickets, turns out they were being distributed at Lane which I found out at 8:15. I got over there and was about 15th in line. Well after waiting until 9 we find out that the tickets aren't being distributed based on when you bought them or when you got to the ticket office. Instead they were already randomly assigned. Groups that bought tickets separately and were hoping to get their tickets together at the office were no longer able to sit together. Luckily I did, but that's not the issue I have.

In a normal situation that's something you get pissed about and move on. But I didn't receive an email from Tech about what the process for getting tickets is until 9:35. That's 35 minutes AFTER ticket distribution started. It's absolutely unacceptable for them to not tell us how the whole process works. There were kids who got there at 6 and didn't even get lower section tickets! Whoever came up with this ticketing process should be fired, and their boss that ok-ed the idea should be fired. This is one of the most ridiculous things Tech has ever done for ticketing, and their ticketing problems are well documented on this site.

Agreed. The way VT athletics does tickets for any Tech game has been baffling to me. Students should be rewarded for effort (i.e. arriving at 6am). I'm also big on saving paper and ticket stubs and just letting students use their hokie passport barcodes to get into games.

edit: it is even more crazy that they split groups up. I would still go...but I'd be ticked off if I was sitting with a bunch of people I don't know...makes logistics difficult.

Well Fuck. Each one of my friends bought their ticket separately so I guess we aren't even sitting together. This is moronic.

Update: Somehow we managed to all clutch tickets in the same section, and also relatively close together in section 128. At least that much....

Nice, I got tickets from and Alabama Alum and I am right next door in section 127 I believe.

I'm in 128 too. I really wanted to be in 126 so I could heckle the Alabama fan section.

Happy I didn't get screwed over, but yea this is nonsense

What if one person bought all the tickets? That's what we did because I thought that's how you get group seating.

Yea, that's what I did. You should be good then. Only the person who bought the tickets needs to be there too.

Cool. This kind of stuff really needs to be better documented. The only reason we knew to do a single purchase was via word of mouth.

Didn't you receive an email telling you when and where to pick up your tickets? I did. Here it is:

Thank you for your order of student tickets to see the Virginia Tech Hokies play the Alabama Crimson Tide in Atlanta. Your order is ready and eligible to be picked up. Tickets will be available at the Lane Stadium Ticket Office just outside of Gate 4. Handout will run from Monday, August 26 at 9:00am until Thursday, August 29 at 4:00pm. Seats have already been assigned, so there is no benefit to being first. Make sure to bring your Hokie Passport to claim your tickets, and keep in mind, this is the only time tickets will be available for pick-up. Tickets will not be mailed, shipped, or available to be picked up in Atlanta.

Yea, but that email came after 9:00 am. So people were waiting in line, and some already had gotten their tickets, by the time that email was sent. It seems like they sent that email because they saw how long the line was outside the ticket office.

This was sent at 9:30 on Monday morning. The original message when we bought the tickets (on the website, which has already been taken down) said, IIRC, that tickets would be lower-level seating and given out first-come-first serve.

I believe this is the email that came last week to tell you when tickets were ready to be picked up and where to go. How did you know to go on Monday to pick up your ticket? It was from this email. At least that is what I was told.

The confirmation email we received when we bought the tickets said they'd be distributed at 9 on Monday at the Cassell ticket office.

That was even more frustrating. I only found out it was at Lane because a friend of a friend texted us. Otherwise I would have been waiting at Cassell for no reason at all. When is Lane's ticket office ever used for things like this?

Very rarely.

Now that's a throwback! Just like the days of the early 90'2 when you could be 4th in line and sitting in row GGGG.

So from what I can understand they thought that a single email in March was good enough for all of the information we needed? A second email in August was too much to ask for?
