2016 Six Pick - Week Six

Three instant classics last week, made the Hokies bye perfect. Now back to the grind, and I can feel my nerves building. This is something that I really haven't felt much in the last few years (except vs the hoos.) I like being relevant or at least on the periphery again. Go Hokies, earn that ranking.

Hype

Alabama is a dynasty, can't argue that. However, even in Natty Championship years they lose one game. The question will it be to these pigs? Aggies, Vawls and Tigers also will have a legit shot.

Saturday, October 8th
LSU -2.5 at Florida
12:00 pm ESPN

  • Florida is beat up, but return Alabama cast off QB, to replace Purdue cast off QB, so that's a win. Scoring will still be an issue for the Gators until overall talent improves
  • Ed Orgeron as coach of LSU is a CFB wet dream come true. I hope he does so well he gets kept on. No longer does he have to hide his dialect, he can bust out the Wild Boyz rally in his native Cajun tongue and damn, it better be caught on video

Pick: LSU laying the points, Orgeron is going to get the Tigers on a hot streak

Virginia Tech at North Carolina -2.5
3:30 pm ABC or ESPN2

  • Larry Fedora getting some play down in Bayou country as a plan B to Herman and Jimbo. He played the game and got the pay bump last year. He can't do the same 2 years in a row, can he?
  • As Hokie fans, we aren't accustomed to shootouts and with the Heels passing offense on fire and the talented RB Elijah Hood itching to break out, this may need to be one for W for the O&M

Pick: UNC laying the points. I know the Heel defense isn't good, but I'm not sure VT is as far along on offense as the last two weeks would suggest.

  • Physical, nasty football is not synonymous with Kevin Sumlin and aTm, but this season they are just behind bama for the best defense in the conference. Sumlin deserves a lot of credit in hiring John Chavis, who has a long history of being a fantastic DC
  • Butch Jones has that 2007 Les Miles Vibe to him ... rallying when behind, winning games on freaky or even lucky plays. How much longer can it go on?

Pick: UT getting the points, it will be within a TD either way.

  • I like Bert, not because I find him personally charming, but I like CFB villains. I like having dickheads to root against. For this, I hope has a long run at Arkansas. He's a Miniboss looking to move up to a Superboss, beating bama would do that for him
  • Speaking of bawses, Saban is the ultimate Final Boss, takes ruthless efficiency in beating other teams. Relying on luck to be a Final Boss, rarely works out and I'm afraid the Kick Six used up that quota for the decade

Pick: Arkansas getting the points, but losing.

  • hey kids, get a good look at the full stadium, takes FSU or UF to fill the place, I'm sure UM will have photographers galore capturing images for the team brochures for the next two years on Saturday
  • That FSU defense. Woof. Either DC Charles Kelly is trash or 4 and 5* prospects don't go as far as they used too. Seeing how Jimbo responds over the next couple of months will be fascinating

Pick: FSU getting the points, another close game that could go either way.

  • The Sun Devils just got burnt by the previously shitting the bed Trojans, but ASU plays much better in their palace of Girls Gone Wild. A loss and Pac 12 South chances will be in trouble
  • A note to UCLA and Josh Rosen (on and off the field) Pac 12 after dark in Tempe means bringing protection and having up to date test results

Pick: ASU getting the points as home dogs, they'll be fired up and ready to play.

A six family Weekend getaway at a nice Va Lake. Yes, please. Much beer, football, food and good times will be had. If the rain holds off, the kids will enjoy s'mores around the campfire, and the adults will enjoy a fine bourbon barrel aged chocolate stout, Blue Mountain Concealed Darkness.
