I noticed also. I think the fans at the game (salute!) really hit his heart. Post game he talked about how great the fans were to stay in that mess. I hope he feels at home, because he truly fits at Virginia Tech.

Yes we did, proud to be part of that crowd and didn't mind the rain or annoying tarheels...sat in their student section...wait correct that, sat in their empty student section.

As the offense was taking a knee at the end of the game, Bud was walking along the sideline and he looked over at all the fans and I screamed, "Yeah Bud!" and pointed at him and we made eye contact and he grinned and lifted his arms to tell the crowd to get louder and that moment alone made the entire soaking wet trip worth it

On a related note. My brother touched the Lunch Pail when Nigel brought it by the crowd and he didn't die from the power it holds! I was worried for a second.

I'm still recovering from the time he gave me the stare down when I tripped over his foot at a basketball game Sophomore year. It's been 12 years of therapy to get to accept that the night terrors will last for life.

I've heard that acceptance is key. Just be lucky all you got was a stare down. You clearly were spared of the ultimate fate so that you could go out and help educate others on the ways of the Bud.
I still remember the time I held the door for him and Wiles as they were leaving West End in '08. To this day I consider myself lucky that I got a nod of the head. Could have been much worse.

A dominating display on both sides of the ball! I agree conditions favored the defenses, but Fuente and Co. put up a convincing 34 pts. in bad conditions! On the 17th ranked team in their home stadium! This was probably the biggest Hokie win since the Ohio St. game and it feels SO GOOD!

Dogs are so weird. Mine will try to literally tear the wheels off the lawnmower while I'm cutting the grass.....but won't come downstairs when we have balloons.

Going into the 2nd half I was not the least bit nervous like the last few years because I knew Fuente would play for the win instead of playing not to loose. Such a great feeling to have about your team...
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
In the first half, when it was 6-3 (I believe), and we had 4th and goal at like the 2. Fuente went for it, no hesitation whatsoever. Evans ran in for TD. I immediately said to my wife that Beamer would have taken the field goal. The game never felt out of hand, like we were in control, not domination, from that point onward.
With this team, I feel excitement, like I did when I was at Tech. Fuente is fam.

I am here in Costa Rica at the Punta Leona resort and they showed the entire game on one of the outdoor bar widescreens, in between 2 soccer matches on the other widescreens. I am SO feeling the FAM, even here in Central America. Go Hokies!

I saw some Heisman love for Trubisky last week. Today he went 13-33 for 53 yards and 2 INT's. That probably ended that talk.β David Pollack (@davidpollack47) October 9, 2016

I asked on a different thread because I was worried about him too. Per GuitarMan: "He was pedaling on a stationary bike by the bench after he was taken off the field. Keeping loose, and I'd take it as a good sign."

He got a decent amount of work. I really liked the mixing and matching. Wiles wasn't just putting "the 1 group" and the "2 group" out there. He had Settle and Hill with Baron and Ekanem. Walker mixed in with the ones. AND THERE WAS NO DROP OFF.
Seriously, Ricky Walker is playing about 38% of the snaps right now, and he has to be in the discussion for the All ACC team at defensive tackle. That isn't hyperbole. He has been that good and Baron-Williams have been even better.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
D-Line hype was 1 year premature. Mihota, Walker, Settle Hill, are better group than 3/4 of the Dlines in College Football. Ekanam has been a force and Baron and Williams have been better than last years starters.

Got back from the game about an hour and a half ago. What a game! Rain was not nearly as bad as I was expecting. Pairing a semi-efficient offense with a vintage Bud Foster defense was great to see. But don't worry about the Heels they started advertising for "Late Night with Roy" halfway through the second quarter...

Just got back to my dorm after a rain-soaked drive down this morning. I have no voice, all my clothes are soaking wet, and I couldn't be happier. This team is something special.
The amount of Hokie fans that were at this game amazed me, and I loved how after the game, I could walk around the concourse with my hand in the air and random people would give me 5.

The TOP stats from yesterday are amazing. Recall watching at times and
we weren't moving the ball much. But it's okay, we've got the ball, they can't score.

Had a great time at the game, met a lot of Hokies. The thing about Hokie nation is the love we all have for each other. It doesn't matter that I've never met you before. I'm going to high five you, hug you, and jump with you no matter what.
It's the wink and the nod when we pass each other recognizing the VT logo we are wearing. From my perspective and I'm obviously biased, there is no greater fan base.
And coach Fuente got to see what we all know about Hokie Nation...
"It was pretty cool, when we came out on the field. it was pretty special to start the game. The Hokie Nation didn't care if it was raining and that was pretty powerful. Makes you really proud to work here. You know it's important to a lot of people I was thinking to myself, I sure would like to win ball games for these people because they sure are passionate about their kids, their Hokies, and it was a pretty cool experience, it really was."

Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
I was working on a ship underway last month and an ensign on there is a Hokie (not a graduate, he actually went elsewhere) but his brother and sister go there. He's fully dipped though. It definitely makes being out at sea much better when you have someone to relate to on that at home level.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
Did you watch the game? He played scared. There was no fight in most of this team. The VT kicker taunted the team and the fans the entire game, and nobody cared. VT was hungry, and they ate Fedora's lunch.
Saw this on a UNC fan board. They are still mad at Slye for "taunting" them on kickoffs lol.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
I'm pretty sure there would have had to be UNC fans present in order to taunt them. He was pumping up the crowd that was actually in the stands, and I will hear no argument to the contrary

I gotta say this game was a blast to be at. I don't think I've ever seen our team look like they were have as much fun playing football as they did on Saturday, the "Away" crowd fed off of that fun and the team in turn fed off the crowd. The special teams squad did a great job of engaging the crowd every time they came off the field. The band played loud and proud despite the downpour. If this is the kind of atmosphere we can generate for an away game in the middle of hurricane I can't wait for my next game in Lane.

This needs to be in the TKP Hall of Gifs
I learned a secret, eat the young version of the mascot prior to the game, grilled lamb kebab's for the win. Where can I find fresh butchered Ibis?
Reguardless where you find some, you're going to need to start with an orange juice based marinade. Gotta go 1-0!
The bar here in VT (vermont) knew VT was beating that tar heel ass!
Virginia Tech is legit again. There, I said it.

I saw that sly smile from Fuente at the end there. Even he couldn't hold that in. You can only be so stoic for so long.
Bud looked like he was going to chainsaw some trees at the end of that game.... he was relishing the win... so nice to see...
I noticed also. I think the fans at the game (salute!) really hit his heart. Post game he talked about how great the fans were to stay in that mess. I hope he feels at home, because he truly fits at Virginia Tech.
Can confirm, our fans SHOWED UP today.
Yes we did, proud to be part of that crowd and didn't mind the rain or annoying tarheels...sat in their student section...wait correct that, sat in their empty student section.

Eye contact with Bud? And you're still here??!
On a related note. My brother touched the Lunch Pail when Nigel brought it by the crowd and he didn't die from the power it holds! I was worried for a second.
Seriously though... what's the secret to surviving a direct eye contact hit from Bud? You must bottle this info and spread it to the masses!

WE DID ITTTTT!!! EVANS FOR HEISMAN!!!! VT FOR THE PLAYOFFS!!!!!!! WE BACK AND WE BACK AND WE BACK!!!
They're not back until they beat Miami and Pitt on Thursday nights.
The title says we should celebrate accordingly. Stop debbie downer-ing up in here. The bourbon must flow.
LET IT FLOW!
that second shot is not a good angle. Just sayin.
EVEN BETTER THAN I WAS THE LAST TIME BABY!!
We are now a game better than I thought we'd be at this point in the season.
FAMMMMMMMMMMM. I WANT TO HUG ALL OF YOU. WE HAVE A FOOTBALL TEAM AGAIN AND NO ONE CAN SAY OTHERWISE
HOW GOOD CAN WE BE THOUGH?!?!?!?! I'M ALL JACKED UP ON

Can I go punch a wall down for Fuente? Cause I will...
So awesome.
I can see it in Fuente, just under the outer skin, waiting to erupt... but he controls it, because he knows that it's not time, yet...
Dude wants to DANCE!
Fuente's pregame speech was a masterclass. I am so hyped up on Fuente and Foster right now!

Everything.
Lots of game balls, but I can not wait to recognize how damn good both Andrew Motuapuaka and Tremaine Edmunds (along with Chuck Clark) were today. It wasn't just the running game. Coverage was EXCELLENT.
I was a doubter for Motu- and the kid has been playing great. This is the kind of thing where I love being wrong.
THIS AND A MILLION TIMES THIS! Motu has improved with each game and it's a joy to see! Hopefully Dax Hollifield and Terajda Mitchell saw that Lunchpail D today and wants to hope aboard the HokieNation train!
Doubter here too. He is much more consistent.
Maybe it's the hair?
The erasers always run on time
Healthy and another year of experience haven't hurt. I have no doubt that Bud would have preferred a slower schedule for Motu.
Seems like Vinny is doing a good job replacing Dadi, too. Or am I missing something?
Upgrade Ekanem, Upgrade Woody, Upgrade Big Nigel, Upgrade Vinny!
Woody, Woody, Woody.......!!!!!!!!!!
60 had a great game..... all around that Font seven. Game balls around!!!!!!!
Way to represent Brentwood, TN, Woody!
This is a comment of the year candidate.
I don't mean to be a homer, but that entire defensive line has an NFL future of some kind
I don't give it a shit about the rules (a la Big Lebowski) I nominate Bud for Heisman!!! Let's make it happen! On 1, ready...BREAK!!!
But seriously, how was the game on TV?
There was nobody there today. We turned that into a home game.
Oh and Coastal division... You're on notice... We are good again, and we have a legit offense. It's ok to shit your pants, we understand
Good enough that I actually ponied up for a round of PBRs at the bar. That is a special occasion.
$7 well spent sir
Not if it's part of a citywide special in philly. Then it's 3$ and you get a shot of Jim Beam
PBR's?? Never thought I would see that. That was the beverage of choice as I was growing up in Greenville, SC.

The game was much drier on TV.
not in my pants
Whats the word on Big Tim Settle?

Not sure where else to put this but Tech is outscoring opponents 55-6 in the first quarter this year. I cannot tell you how much I love that.
Edit: BTW all 6 given up were to Liberty.
We DOMINATED the most important stat that will define VT's season, time of possession, 39:59-20:01.
Doubled the TOP, doubled their yards, doubled their first downs, halved their turnovers, and had 1100% of their points.
But we have fumbled 17 times this year. Not great, Bob. Can't do this against Syracuse, their back up long snapper will really get after ya
Just goes to show all of our hard work gripping those wet sloppy balls all week paid off... Makes it extremely difficult when you have a stiff penetrating defense like that.

Ran the 5k at the local community college this morning; finished the race to "Enter Sandman" blasting on their radio station.
This week is going to be a good week.
Saw this on a UNC fan board. They are still mad at Slye for "taunting" them on kickoffs lol.
and yet they were fine with their own kicker running around doing the Toma-mock at FSU after the game winning 54 yard fg?
Yes because as long as it doesn't negatively impact them as a fan base, it's the best thing ever.
I'm pretty sure there would have had to be UNC fans present in order to taunt them. He was pumping up the crowd that was actually in the stands, and I will hear no argument to the contrary
