OT: This is Home/Home state of Virginia Car Magnet

Good day Hokie Nation. Thought I'd solicit the expertise of the TKP masses in trying to locate the item mentioned in the subject line.

I have been seeing them all over cars at the tailgates during the month of September but haven't seen them in any of the bookstores or online. They look like a magnet and not a sticker but I could be wrong.

It's the outline of the Commonwealth of Virginia filled in with orange with either "HOME" or "THIS IS HOME" in maroon lettering over the state.

Perhaps this is a Hokie Club only thing? Anyone know where they came from?

If you email VT athletics, they'll mail you one. I got mine in like 48 hours.

That easy? What's the email address you sent it to?

edit: address removed. no more magnets.

Got a response. Said these were a one-time promotion. Guess I gotta find an alumni event in RVA

Why would they make that a one time promotion? It's been one of their most successful campaigns of Virginia Tech....

Maybe a "one at a time" promotion? They were showing up at various landmarks for several weeks and giving them away to whoever showed up.

I got mine in the mail by responding to a Twitter contest ("...first fifty replies...").

Someone said at the time you could walk into one of the offices on campus and pick them up (don't know which one, had to do with alumni or outreach or something).

They're being given out at the game watch parties and other alumni events in the DFW area.

I know, who would ever fly on Delta domestically?

Anyone who didn't want to fly US Scare, which should be avoided at all costs.

I actually like Delta compared to the other options.

They aren't bad for me in Raleigh. Prefer them over the other options we have (AA, United, Southwest). Then again, when you're really only flying regional jets to get wherever you want to go, its never really that bad.

My problem with Delta is that it seems only a 1/4 of their flights are actually operated by Delta proper. Every Delta flight I have been on that is not overseas has been serviced by some small regional airline that's always delayed, canceled, rerouted, or some other insanity. A simple nonstop turns into a 2 city connection.

But then again, AA is king of this airport so that might have something to do with it.

That last part is probably it. Delta has turned RDU into a big focus airport for them, with direct flights to almost everywhere you could want to go, at least through the eastern part of the US. Its a rare occasion when I really have to take a connecting flight, unless I'm headed to an airport where Delta doesn't have a big presence. And even then, we have both transcontinental and transatlantic options out of RDU that take a lot of stress off the long trips.

American is almost the opposite here. If you want to go anywhere, you're going to have to connect through Charlotte, Chicago, Miami, or Philly. They do offer transcon and transatlantic options as well, but their regional service is quickly falling behind what Delta offers.

This entire thread answers have me:

Why is every Bets post sarcasm?
Why did VT FB 02 type his address?

Wet stuff on the red stuff.

yeah I came in here and promptly thought "What the actual f*** is going on!?"

Bets sig line is /s so that, I believe, is why all his posts are sarcastic...all the other stuff confuses the hell out of me

Onward and upward

Yeah, sorry, I'll get rid of that. Most of the things I say are sarcasm and I always forget to use it. But I can see why it's a problem when I'm commenting seriously

/s

The athletic dept has been giving them away, at Hokie Club events, at the stadium, dropping by their offices during the week, giveaways on social media, TKP had some to give away, various business in NOVA, 757 and the NRV have/had them.

I'm hoping we'll have some available at the Alumni tailgate at UNC this weekend. I have nothing to back this up, but gut feeling says I can guarantee we'll have them available for the Duke tailgate next month. We'll be at the Friday Center lot this weekend (look for the Alumni Association flags and massive congregation of VT fans), and be sure to pick up a ticket for the Duke tailgate at trianglehokies, org if you want to swing by.

I did a quick email to the address above. Here is the response:

We are all out of the magnets. This was a one-time summer promotion.

I got that, too. I wonder how many emails he's had to field in the last ten minutes because of this thread.

We're up to at least 3 at this point haha

4. Definitely 4. Same message, same response, no magnets

Slightly erratic, mostly sane, always a Hokie.

Damian must be wondering why in the f*** he is getting all these emails this morning. I just got the same response

Now finish up them taters; I'm gonna go fondle my sweaters.

with TKP's track record of crowd sourced movements we could probably force his hand to make a bunch more Magnets for a "mid-season promotion" or something if enough people e-mail him

Exclusive footage from Damian's office

Everyone on TKP, please email requesting a magnet ASAP, really confuse this guy

edit: forgot to put the /s. lol

edit: I picked up on the sarcasm, just love all these R&M gifs

Too soon.

Whoops. My bad.

Guess he'll be using copy and paste a lot today.

Let's Go...

they were a special promotion which ran through the summer and if you subscribed to VT Athletics through Twitter, you got their posts as to when you could win them. for instance, they'd post a random tweet and the first 50 re-tweets got one mailed to them.

the second option was to go to your local First Union Bank during a designated week and an employee would give you one upon request. that's how i got mine.

the third way was through meet and greets throughout the state (and Charlotte) amongst alumni or Hokie Club meetings. at this point, i'm assuming the supply of magnets on campus are gone and what's left are probably in the hands of organizers of alum get-togethers/Hokie Club events.

if you really want one, i have a spare one for you. just PM me through walterv1@vt.edu

EDIT: it was mentioned below that the ticket office at Lane was handing these out, too

I picked mine up at the ticket office over the summer. They had about a million there when I went but I'd say they went pretty quick. They were and still are wildly popular.

I saw some similar magnets at Campus Emporium on Main Street.

Sad to see they were a one time promotion. I got one at the Nats game for VT - UVA rivalry night. Have it on the fridge.
