They said that our two division crossover opponents were Wake and Cuse to highlight how we lucked out in getting the weaker teams. Funnily enough they are wrong, and that Wake would have actually improved our schedule this year.
Overall a good write up.
Wake has benefited from the easiest schedule in the conference thus far, and could easily finish with 8 or 9 wins. Even so, you're right in that they probably would have boosted our SOS somewhat.
Hell, the way this season is going, the biggest drag on our SOS is going to be Notre Dame.
SOS will only matter if we're in the playoff discussion. To be in the playoff discussion, we have to beat Clemson (likely) in the ACCCG, which will help our SOS.
It also matters for better bowl games.
Does it? I thought bowl games were based on record (and ranking within the conference). I guess the PERCEPTION of your school and fanbase is the more objective part (which could be influenced by SOS, but I don't think it has any quantitative effect).
I could be full of crap as well
Pretty sure that bowls have a little bit of discretion choosing teams, so its not just based on record.
Correct, that is why you see teams with big fan bases get into larger bowl games before more deserving ones because they want to sell tickets.
A barely bowl eligible Notre Dame will get picked before an over-achieving Wake or similar comparison.
Yep.... just like in 2000 when ND got into the BCS over a 1 loss Top 5 team who happened to be in the National Championship Game the previous year............
Ahh... that feels better
Sometimes I wish I could release my anger like Ari Gold, but i like not going to prison...
But I thought beating ND was the equivalent of beating an SEC team... They are both always overrated with a really big ego.
Easier than UVa?
Also note that he includes them having Pitt as a "tough" cross division game but doesn't list Pitt as a "tough" remaining game for the Hokies and nearly equivocates them vs. Wake in the rain to us vs. the heels in the rain.... very slanted in the last few paragraphs if you ask me but he is a homer and at least can talk about football in a cogent manner (unlike the scribes up in charlottesville who wax poetic about the lawn and the pergolas and their brie.....

Awww. Now I really want a pet fox.
Our neighborhood just got one that is hunting the cats that wander around. I have never been a bigger nature lover.
Syracuse is really playing the trap card for this game. But I guess if that's the only card you have you have to play it.
It seemed to work out for them
Now I really hate that we lost that game..... F##k!!!!#
