I'm not going to let it ruin the season, but it was eerily similar to many of our meltdowns over the last 15 years, where the team just failed to show up against inferior competition. It's goddamn disheartening that of all things, THAT trait survived the coaching change.

Just to preface this statement I'm a current student. I don't really watch press conferences or interviews, so I'm not sure if it is a common excuse thrown around. However I was in a dining hall on Thursday and heard a few football players discussing with some wrestlers the defense was having a horrible week of practice so I was initially worried about the game because when guys have that mentality it just can't be good.
TRAVON 8 carries unacceptable. He had a great couple carries to start the 2nd half and then we get more Rogers up the gut.
1st game that play calling has been pretty piss poor. Also Bud Foster and MOBILE QBs, 4th and 3 so lets play 8 yards off the LOS.
VT looked flat and couldn't recover. Good thing we're still tied for the Coastal. Huge week ahead.

Sure was hard to watch VT get slapped around the field on both sides of the ball today.

For a short period of time, VT was in it, but Dungy made look like VT was trying to catch a greased pig.
This team has one of the worst run offenses in all of D-1 football, we know their running it, and they STILL get the first down. Can't express my disappointment in words. Just a horribly, inexplicable performance and one that every one of those kids will regret for some time. Hopefully the staff learned something as well. They are as much to blame as the players. Terrible game plans on both sides of the ball.

It's not that I'm surprised we lost this game, but it just felt like we had something special this season. Maybe we still beat Miami and get to the ACCCG, but it would have been nice to finally get over that bump.
Louisville probably has the best seat for the playoffs right now, because they have the hype but there's no one in the Coastal that will leapfrog them by beating Clemson.

It does suck, but we shouldn't take the rushing the field this too personally. They haen't had much to celebrate in awhile and technically they did beat a ranked team. It happens, we hadn't exactly proved that we deserved to be ranked in the first place.

I agree with you only because of how much our coaches and team preached not falling into the exact trap that they fell into. So everything they had built over the last three games has been washed away. Back to not feeling any pride for this team since, like so many people have already stated, it's just more of the same.
On a side note, I want to see Fuente's postgame speech. Seriously, I expect it to be on-point and infuriate the players into action for Thursday.

UT loss was written off as a "we beat ourselves" which was true. This was the first game where our opponent actually took it to us and this team was stunned.
Got whipped in all three phases of the game. We all got a little ahead of ourselves, this is a team learning together....never a playoff contender.
We will beat Miami this week.
My biggest concern is not this L in a vacuum but that this team has shown all the signs of being mentally weak. The offense gets down if the D gives up the lead. So how is this team going to be able to get into the right mindset to defend Lane on Thursday night with the Coastal on the line?

I thought Bud would limit Syracuse (which he didn't). But I also expected the offense to roll... They had no life for much of the game. This was the 2nd worst D we've played all year and the O did nothing. That is why VT lost today, not because Bud's D did what Bud's D does against teams like this.
Yeah, I've been trying to say that. Syracuse was always going to get yards and points. The number of points and yards (560) they got is why the defense can be classified as shit. The offense, however, was fucking pathetic. They put up decent yardage, but 17 points is a joke.

Clemson in ACCCG was terrible. Michigan right after that. Matt Ryan game was brutal. FSU loss on Thursday night at home.
Yes those were all bad, and I was at the Matt Ryan game in the rain, but this was different. I was almost used for having an offense show up nowadays, and to see a lower tier program beat us in every facet of the game was so dissapointing... Maybe I was just hoping things had changed more after the last 4 years...

Not even close. The only reason it feels like that is because we all started getting our hopes up after a few 'big wins". Don't get me wrong, I was just as excited to see an offense again, and I was already starting to day dream about a BCS bowl right along with the rest of you, but until the last few weeks no one ever actually expected that this year. I'm disappointed that we lost but I can't help but feel good about the future with Fuente.
The offense in the first half is what cost them the game....that being said, we still control the Coastal with Miami losing. But this game is disheartening for sure, as ready to play as I thought they were last week; there is no way this team was ready to go today and Syracuse wanted this game bad.

I'm obviously disappointed by the loss, but even more frustrating to me is the fact that the single drive we had Travon in the backfield, we absolutely ran it down their throats and went right down the field to score. Then they take him back out from there on out and we stall. I truly don't know what else the coaches need to see to prove the fact that he's the only back that gives us an explosive threat.
This and the stupid panic play selections on our 1st possession after they took the lead again in the 4th made it look like Stiney was making the personnel decisions and play calls.
