Alright, we've all had a night to sleep on that horrible game. At this point, the hangovers should have subsided. I'm sure we've all had a chance to vent (for better or for worse).
Let's take a step back and get some perspective and post something positive.
Finish the sentence: I love being a Hokie this season because ________.

Because I know we've survived crappy losses before and we all still love this team.
Because maroon and orange is the greatest color combo known to man.
Because loluva is still worse than us
For lots of reasons, but right now because I know this is just the beginning of the Fuente-Foster era, and I expected some growing pains.
I believe in Whit, Buzz, and Fuente, so I'm pretty excited about VT athletics in general.
Because of you guys and girls right here. As someone who didn't go to Tech and has not lived in VA since 2008 I'm not around a lot of other Hokies a lot. But y'all embraced me, welcomed me to tailgates, helped me navigate Blacksburg for the first time as an adult and so many more things. The fanbase is what makes me proud to be a Hokie.
This. I didn't get into VT a few years ago despite it being my childhood dream and the fan base has still welcomed me with open arms.
Because of the new energy around the program and
exciting offense, with a potent defense. Glad to take part as a
fan in the games and meet other Hokies.
Because of the possibility and potential. Because it's NOT LOLUVA. Because Hokies are for everyone from the little guy to the richest CEO. Because, dammit, I just love being a Hokie!!!
Because being a Hokie is about so much more than football. Being a Hokie is being part of a family. Being a Hokie is always knowing Blacksburg will be "home." Being a Hokie is living your life to the fullest in honor of those who didn't get that chance.
Everything said above. I would also add that "Ut Prosim" is not just a saying to me it is about community and service and makes up what we are to the bone! VT is FAM any where I go!
Because I'm going to pour so many rails in my face in 4 short days.
Our coaches are as concerned about representing VT positively and mentoring young athletes as they are about winning.
Because in four days I'll be JUMPIN' in Lane on a Thursday night for the first time!
Me too. I'm looking forward to it. Hope the fans bring it.
Because I can't not be, I just love this team too durn much.
PS: This feels like part of a 10 step program to recovery.
PS: It is.
We're 4-2 with a new head coach (with the same badass D coordinator), in his first P5 job, and still in control of the coastal.
Because.
Q.E.F.
Because whether or not we're playing football, my school will always be the most proud, most spirited, most driven and most selfless school in the country. There's never a time when I don't love being a Hokie.
Because This Is Home. Like Fireman and a few others said above, I don't go to VT, but I love this school, the team, the spirit, the colors, the fans...everything. Proud to be a Hokie til the day I die. FAM!!!!
Because going to tech was the greatest 4 years of my life to this point
I'm proud to be a Hokie because our University motto is "That I may Serve" and we show that in so many ways. Testing tap water for lead and other poisons at no cost to residents from a city across the country; serving in our military and all levels of government; creating programs to help show parents good techniques for raising their kids; or even welcoming even rival fans into tailgates to share food, drinks, and stories.
These are good responses, but the OP makes it pretty clear that the answer is only 8 letters.
I love being a Hokie because...
utprosim.
randolph.
carollee.
duckpond.
cornhole.
totsrail.
Welp, my reason's staying because d-r-i-n-k-i-n-g.
Interesting choice.
I left Tech right as the new engineering building was finished, so I spent a lot of time in Randolph. While not all of my memories of that place are positive, I like to think it built character or something.
Same, though I don't know if I still would have included Randolph in my list....
I took a look around the new Engineering building when I was at VT last. That place is incredible.
Didn't they name it? I think they call it Durham hall now. /s
woo Durham Hall for life woo
ISE 05
Because family is very important to me. And I love my blood related family, but the greatest people in my life are the ones that I know because of this university. I was there during the worst event in the history if the university, and in spite of that I am a better person because of it. If anyone has proved you can't bring us down, it is us. My heart belongs there and so do I. I love being a HOKIE because I am a HOKIE. Football wins and losses don't define us. WE DEFINE OURSELVES. LETS GO
Because it's home. Really. I know the tagline recently is #thisishome, but it's the honest truth for me. Ever since my first weekend in the dorms of Pritchard as a freshman I've always felt like I've found my home there. Every time I go back to VT, even if it is just for a game, I get excited because it feels like I'm driving back to my people. I'm 36, and I still feel like that.
Ditto to all the above. I did not attend VT, but since moving here I proudly wear the colors no matter what. Legs to all above for not throwing the team and coaches under the bus. That is the greatest thing about you the fans. Family means everything to you and it's why we became Hokies!!!
I lived in Blacksburg growing up. After moving, I have never seen a tighter, stronger community. For me that's what being a Hokie is all about. It's a culture that doesn't limit itself to football or the school itself. It is a way of life; help others who need it, always respect others and treat them like family, and help create a better world. Blacksburg and Virginia Tech has and always will be my home, and I am proud every day to be a Hokie, even when I didn't pursue my higher education at the school.
it is in my blood. Many people do not undrstand the bond that is there by being a hokie and I feel sorry for them. You don't. have to graduate from VT to be a hokie. You just have to willing to open your heart and soul and give everytyhing you have. And when you do you will understand what it means to be a Hokie. Go Hokies. You are home.
Go Hokies!
because there is no greater sense of community that I've ever experienced than being a part of Hokie Nation. It's about more than just football and basketball...this is family
I enjoy fancy whiskey cocktails (and just straight whiskey), pallet burnings, engineering, football, theater, jazz, basketball, flip cup, and fresh mountain air. I love being a hokie because I don't know of too many other places that you could like any and all of those things, and still feel at home.
Because the Hokie Nation is real.
read TKP over the last 6 months while deployed, definitely kept my spirits and connection with Tech high. Thanks for all the great product!
Thank you for your service! Stay safe out there!!
I've been a lifelong Jets fan, was convinced I'd be a season ticket holder after graduating and never got into college football until I started at Tech in '10. Everything about Tech football was amazing to me, the environment, the enthusiasm, just the whole CFB experience. College ball has become so much more important to me than the NFL ever was. I love being a Hokie, and TKP helps feed that passion. Thanks a lot guys!
Time to dust off my favorite turkey pic!
Because it would take far more than a loss to crappy Syracuse to give me the need to reaffirm my love for VT.
