Aidan Howard, a 2016 University of Virginia football signee, has filed a federal complaint alleging that he was injured in a hazing ritual following his arrival in July.
Not a great look for a new coaching staff.

uhhhhh I'm at a loss for words....
A leg for sure! Perfect!
Guess this kid wasn't game for some Zima chugging.
After reading the article, second thought is, that's the first time a UVA football player has been asked to put up a fight
UVA Frats are all like:
This can mean one of two things if it gains steam:
1. The whole staff is terminated and Bronco is one and done.
2. Some staffers get fired, Bronco stays, but their recruiting plummets even lower than it is now. Coaches will absolutely use this against them.
If this is true, I feel awful for the kid.
Hopefully #2. I want Bronco to stay in Hooville for a long time, even longer than Coach Time Cop.
Now that is a power house program. BTW, at 14 I had a huge crush on my good friend's Mom. They lived in Monroeville and she was hot!
My name is Kevin.
How do you pronounce that?
"K'thrzlr"
I don't know why some of you are making fun of this kid or the university, but it should stop.
This is a serious deal and needs to be discussed as such. If you're just going to comment to bash on the UVA football program or the kid who got punched in the face -- don't. It's disrespectful to the player.
I hope this is taken care of correctly.
ESPN has a much more in depth article and it's not good.
http://www.espn.com/espn/otl/story/_/id/17832652/ex-uva-receiver-alleges...
Wow
Sounds like a great dude....
I wonder if he just cost his dad his job.
I wonder if he's going to cost a lot more people a lot more than their jobs.
If I was the UVA president/AD I'd be calling BYU players/admin to find out if these types of actions were present there.
I know that every organization out there has some kind of initiation process and I'm not naive enough to think our football team is the exception. Hopefully hearing about this happening so close by wakes some people up and maybe rethink future activities.
Read the story. All I can say is sadly disturbing. Let's refrain from making fun of the student in the suit. If true, it does not look good for UVa. The sexual assault story that ran in RS is still a mess.
Medenhall should have some liability or accountability. If action is taken due to the verification of the events, Hagans is definitely gone. I'm sure inner circle Hoos are circling the wagons to save their jobs.
Very disturbing... "ramming" like wtf
Say what you want but it looks like a new mindset us being installed at LOLUVA>
Uva everybody...
Flipped over to Le Sewer to see what they were saying. Shook my head and flipped back about 5 seconds later.
I actually think their position is somewhat understandable. If someone wrote a Rolling Stones-esque article about Virginia Tech and this article came out about us, I would probably take it with a grain of salt as well.
This is horrible
That's all. No joking matter, this is terrible if true.
Scum and trash. Now we REALLY have to beat their asses this year just for this shit alone. That's all.
No. Just... no. We're better than that.
I know Fuente is better. It just pisses me off.
He doesn't mean Fuente.
Why don't you sit this next one out, stop talking for a while.
Oh, I'm done with this one. A fed complaint of a hazing incident at UVA pretty much speaks for itself. Trash and scum.
Ninja edit. Bold move cotton.
Yeah well, I thought about it. Most of my reaction can be summed up in my first post with the gif.
Most people leave a "Edit: Redacted my childish, inane comment after I saw what I Wahoo I was being."
Careful Nerd. Considering where I am forced to work and reside, THAT is VERY MUCH crossing the line.
Thank god you finally realize that you can cross a line.
Question: how far do you wanna take/push this?
How tall are you?
6' 4", 310 lbs.
That's it?
I don't have time to continually respond to your comments if you misspelled your own name.
Just apologize for the completely unwarranted wahoo reference remark and I'll call it even steven. Btw, I spelled it this way on purpose. I think some of the posts from you in this thread would clearly fit under the petty personal attacks. I did not once refer to you or anyone on this site as a wahoo.
At this point both of you are acting like children and need to stop. This is absolutely ridiculous.
You read it. He called me a wahoo. There's NO PLACE for that type of insult on this site.
It's a joke. Quit with the faux outrage. This is Bender all over again.
Its been that way for a while now
We all have things that cause us to tick. Being called or referenced a wahoo is practically the ultimate insult to a Hokie. I'm not the Bender guy. I DON'T support MV5 or Stick it in and I actually have/do make amendments/cross outs/removals of overboard comments. THAT person did not.
I think what you're most failing to grasp is that there's a growing vocal segment of this TKP community that is getting tired of your shtick. Bender or not, if things don't change the end result could be the same.
After reading through this dumpster fire of a thread, I think we all need to take a step back, breath, remember we get Miami at home tonight, and heed the words of the wise Bill and Ted
DYEL?
I like how you edited the post but still didn't remove what earned you the downvotes.
Can you at least try to go a week without saying stupid shit?
Yo, warthog. Pour some cold water on it. I took it off. Besides, if my gunshot post pisses you off more than the hazing incident itself, then I think you have bigger issues.
It doesn't, but I also want this to be a respectful and mature board and I just don't feel like you have interest in contributing to the mission many others have set out to accomplish.
You say that and others have made UVA quips on here. I don't see you losing shit to them. Since I took it off, you just need to

I would like to petition the moderator to please disallow members from calling or referring to each other as wahoos. It's like shooting your own guys in the foot. I removed/amended my comment to where it only talks about "beating their asses" (which I know for a fact I am not the only to have every posted that phrase on this site). I have not personally attacked anyone in this thread (even when I was unjustly attacked and taunted). I haven't even downvoted anyone (when it was well within my rights). I think a number of folks' reaction even after I amended/removed the comment is what's really effed up. At this point I'm done.
You made a comment directly 2 posts above this one. I suggest you heed your own advice.
Let it go
Kinda hard to do when nobody else will. I haven't seen anyone else on here called a wahoo.
Its a recurring joke on here
Somehow I doubt that was meant in good jest to me.
With this subtopic/discuss. Still here.
Ok. Even I found this funny.
All of this occurred at the UVA Spring Game, where no one else saw it either.
From the title, I thought the article was going to explain that the hazing incident was that they made the student watch a UVA football game.
(If true) I thought UVA would be better than this, honestly. What the fuck?!
If we're being completely honest, UVA was improving every game and Bronco is no slouch as a coach if what he did at BYU is an accurate representation. This can only be a setback for them.
Obviously there's a much larger issue at hand for them, and I hope this is dealt with correctly.
The UVA honor code is INCREDIBLY strict on these sorts of things. As much as I like to give UVA a hard time, as an institution, they are very much against this sort of behavior. I imagine that UVA will impose their own swift justice on the situation.
As I would hope VT would as well.
I was handling a portion of a suit against another university and organization that the organization's student leadership alleged that my client's treatment wasn't "hazing" because "alcohol was not involved in the activity".
I wanted to shake the student leadership as well as the university representative that did the anti-hazing "training" prior to this incident because obviously they missed the basic friggin' principle of what hazing is. Here's a hint, you don't have to make someone drink to haze them.
I disagree:
"I feel like if a person is willing to come forward in that setting and admit that they violated the policy when there's absolutely no advantage to do so, that that does deserve some consideration. That they're willing to say, 'I've done something wrong and I recognize that and I'm willing to take my licks and deal with it,' that's very important to me. I think that shows a level of understanding of what they did that I don't see in a hearing necessarily." - Former Student Dean Eramo on admitted sexaul assaulters on campus
I'm sorry @1985Hokie, I don't really see the connection.
The FORMER Student Dean is saying that if someone comes forward and admits to their wrongdoing, that it should be considered in the hearing.
The UVA honor code is incredibly strict. If you were to give your student ID to someone else to get into a football game, that's considered a violation of the honor code and equivalent to cheating on a test. There are a number of non-academic related things you can do to violate the honor code, and the consequences are pretty severe.
The question was specifically posed by the WUVA reporter regarding those who perpetrated sexual assault being allowed to remain on campus. If they will enforce the honor code re: cheating, etc, as you say then the double standard is stunning as they protect their pristine 'brand' by washing over serious crimes to keep them out of the press. If there is no hearing and therefore nothing to FOIA, Cleary Act, etc., then its never known what happened as far as the UVA internal judicial system. Hopefully these women report to law enforcement.
I think that's the same at VT. Not belittling UVA's honor code, just don't think your example prover your point.
One would think but I know personally too many women who would disagree.
Yeah, well, theoretically so was the UNC honor code. And we all know how that worked out.
Based on the ESPN article, Marques Hagans is probably out of a job.
Hasn't his name come up before?
(didn't read articles)
Wow, what a story. Not a good look.
This is one instance where I refuse to make a joke about UVA as it pertains to the manipulation of another human being. Sad if true. Deadspin article provides a few more in-depth details and it does not look to good.
http://deadspin.com/ex-virginia-football-player-alleges-culture-of-hazin...
The only joke is that there will still be coaches around the Commonwealth who think its in their players best interests to steer them towards playing football for the University of Virginia after this.
This is all sorts of wrong.
At least he was able to transfer to a better football program.
This cannot be uplegged enough.
This is seriously messed up.
Fans, boycott a football program that allows crap like this to go on.1 down, 3 to go
I think the piece of the article that stands out to me and really makes me think this allegation has legs is this part:
if they listed this as the reason for releasing him from his NLI, than you would think their internal Title IX investigation would be far enough along to have taken at least administrative actions. Hopefully the truth comes out and the right parties are held accountable.
The story: fucking awful.
The thread title: holy alliteration, Batman!
**looks up synonyms for "complaint" and "hazing" that start with "F" **
so disappointed
I'm a big dumb firefighter not an English teacher, sue me.
ok, Bones...
Can Fuente offer this poor kid a transfer from Robert Morris? Can we bring him to VT and show him that a team can be a welcoming, nurturing family instead of the shit-hole of abuse he went through at that other school? How awesome would it be for him to learn under real coaches and end up playing and crushing his former team?
It wouldn't be awesome. It would be poetic justice.
we could do this as a symbolic gesture, but doesn't one of the articles posted say that he may not be medically cleared to play football ever again?
I wish... we still have a while to go before we can make up ground in how we botched the Daniel Rodriguez thing... Guy returns from war, is pretty good at the sport at WR, and desperately wants to play for his favorite team, VT, who isn't exactly great at the position at the time... aaaaaaand we tell him to piss off because he's not good enough. And then Clemson welcomes him with open arms and gets all the great pub that comes from it.
It was more about academics than skill.
That's the popular narrative, but it's not true. There were academic requirements that he did not meet without a waiver. Specifically:
http://usatoday30.usatoday.com/sports/college/football/acc/story/2012-08...
So, yes, it would have likely been possible for VT to allow him to enroll and join the team, and apparently Clemson was more willing to go through that process, but it's not like we just turned our nose up at the poor guy. He didn't qualify, got advice on what to do, and got a better offer.
It still made us look bad.
Well I just got heavily Mod'd... I stand corrected, thanks!
All you say is true, and none of it changes the fact that it was a bad look for the program. As soon as we found out Clemson was willing to pursue the waiver, anyone with PR skills would have done the same. The guy had an amazing story, and wanted to play for us much more than we wanted him to play for us. That was a failure on our part.
Optics I agree with. We could have made a better effort. Getting a waiver for a veteran seems like a total VT move and I'm not sure why we didn't do it. But I've heard the "we screwed him over for a shallow reason" narrative a lot in this case and it irks me.
Rodriguez is exactly who I thought of in response to this idea, and you saved me the trouble of trying to look up his name.
If a football program falls in Charlottesville, does it make a sound?
You can't fall from the basement...
You just fall into your grave instead.
I'd say this has set the LOLUVa program back 13 years, but that would be an improvement...
Lmao, look at this dude!
Having met Hagans, who truly seems like a nice guy (I know, there's still that whole hoo thing), I hope it isn't true for his family's sake. Still, it sounds like two assistants are likely on their way out. At least. Any investigation likely won't be completed in time to affect current players, even the sophomore.
For those advocating a wait-and-see approach to this due to the whole Rolling Stone rape case article - this is an entirely different animal. The Rolling Stone article was intentionally vague about people and specifics to leave wiggle room. It was not drawn from a lawsuit which levied specific charges against specific persons, nor was it corroborated by medical records or school documents. This story has a whole hell of a lot more meat to its bones.
LOLUVA gold!
I need this framed for above my fireplace.
Somehow, I don't think that hazing is what "culture change" the LOLuva FailChart is referencing.
I know there's an updated version, I just can't find it at this time. Will edit to update upon success.
Haha now that he's not there, I'm a fan
Abandon thread.
Thank God (or....yknow, I guess Joe) for the collapse button!
Oh damn, thanks for the reminder! I clearly don't TKP enough
*looks at TL Big Board*
Uh huh, yeah Alum you definitely need to TKP harder. There's nearly a 16,000 leg gap between you and GuitarMan, what are you doing with your life?
You know, back in the day, I was super excited just to see I'd made it onto the first page of the TL Big Board. Then I had the goal of being able to see my name without having to scroll down. Really proud of that one. Then I thought, "Wouldn't it be cool to make top ten?" But now any further goals are completely pointless because of Alum07's insurmountable TL lead (sorry Guitarman, you just don't count).
So, I just want to take this opportunity to say, "thank you" to Alum07 for completely killing my ambition when it comes to turkey legs.
+1 For Cap, the best Dota personality there is.
I am impressed that you found video of the fight at UVA.
105 people recorded it in the locker room on their phones. It was only a matter of time until someone leaked it.
No, you read that wrong. There were 105 people there, but there were a couple coaches and GA who were present... Not to break up the fight, but to make sure nobody recorded it so they could keep it secret.
So what you're saying is 104 more people recorded than showed up for their Spring Botanical Beauties Bonanza?
I've found more interesting parts to this but I'm reluctant to post them since it doesn't seem it will go anywhere.
For those of us who are actually interested in the story, please do.
Just don't call anyone a Wahoo.
But I actually would like to hear what Fireman has.
Since the RS article about the frat house rape from last year came up and this seems relevant, buzzfeed just posted an article about the RS writer admitting their mistakes.
Rolling Stone Writer Admits Mistakes
So the question is my mind was how much of this was going when Timecop was in charge?
It seems hard to believe that you could go from nothing too crazy to something like this in just one off season.
Not a great look.
The thing that gets me most about these allegations more than the fighting incident is that fact that they bullied him because of his disability. It's easy to make fun of UVA, but this is serious and should never be tolerated.
They deserve some bad media over this one.
