Those "glitch" sounding noises are actually from hokievision. They added them this year and it is really the first thing they've really done wrong. Really no reason to fix something that wasn't broken.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
Can someone else confirm this? I thought it could be from a video that was playing on HokieVision, but then this thread stated it was from ESPN.
Whatever the case it sounded terribly obnoxious on TV and I was thinking on a night where they're featuring our entrance for TV audience it was horrible.

I love the Eric Church and Johnny Cash combo leading up to Let's Go Hokies. Seeing them walk from the locker room, while hearing God's Gonna Cut You Down gives me chills.

The one thing this year that they added is the D - B - U chant, but I feel like the cadence is a little weird, like it gets slower or something towards the end... fix the cadence and get the students behind that chant and it would be awesome.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
Two things I'm trying to get Pete Morris and Hokie Vision to do: fix the cadence of DBU AND have the lyrics on the Jumbotron so everyone in the stadium can sing along with the Players at the end of the game.

I know it started in 2014, but I can't remember precisely which game it started. I did some research, I found it in this video from miami 2014, but I can't find a video from our other home games that year. If you listen closely you can hear it at the start of this video. Does anyone know which game in particular it started in?
I am imagining how awesome it would be if 65,000 Hokie fans would clap and stomp to the beat of cut you down. I think it would just add to the intimidation factor.

damn this made me want to rewatch this game, especially since I missed the first half. Does anyone know if a video of the full game is available anywhere? Google and YouTube have yielded nothing so far.

This entrance is actually one of the better ones I've seen in terms of choreography. The team exits the tunnel at the apex of the song and they triggered the fireworks along the top of the stadium in sequence with the team running out of the tunnel.
Most of the time, they hold the team in the tunnel for a few seconds too long...
Unfortunately, this is the only video I can find that has the fireworks in frame

Semi-related, anyone know if any of the other pregame footage is online? At one point supposedly they showed Enter Sandman from 2 years ago, the last Thurs Miami game.

All of the empty area was in the yellow though which is good. The stands were pretty full once everyone got in the stadium except for the upper corner of the east stands and the upper deck of the endzone.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
And the student sections were so full that people had to wander up and down looking for seats.... It's the first time that's happened this season and it was refreshing to see. The entire student section was full, unlike past games where tiny corners at the top of the East student section would be empty.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
The upper rows all the way across the east side were empty, and it was obvious on TV. Stayed that way all game. Of course I was looking for it, don't know what a casual observer saw.
Much of that could have been people moving down. The announced attendance was only 3000 less than capacity, which is less than the away allotment.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
You're correct about it being empty at the beginning of the game. I think that's because the "clear bag" policy was being strictly enforced this game and not everyone was aware. There were still bunches of students trying to get into the stadium during Enter Sandman, and that should speak volumes to have bad the gates were, because students wouldn't miss that for the world.
This was middle 2nd quarter.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
Yes, the gates were bad. Departed lot #1 (right across the street) a half hour before kick off time and barely got into our seats on time. It was like a stampeding mosh pit trying to get in the gates on the north side.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
Seriously though. We've had to leave an hour before kickoff from our tailgate to get inside in plenty of time for Enter Sandman. They sent out a survey for season ticket holders after the game and my comments were directed about how slowly the gates have been this season. Not sure how, but it needs to be addressed and the athletic department is aware. A lot of the questions on the survey were about getting to the stadium in time and wait times for gates.

Also the upper right of SEZ goes to student tickets when visitors return them... But a lot of the students that get tickets there go to NEZ and cram in
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
I think this is an outdated image. Believe there are students have in the east have been pushed towards the north end, and the upper 500's are student lottery tickets also (which is why those seats are empty, students get the lottery ticket and then sneak in the North, resulting in an empty south)
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
Graphic is either incorrect or outdated. I bought tickets through the box office 3 rows from the top of section 31, and they definitely weren't student tickets.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
Again while that's true, I'm talking about the optics of seeing that many empty seats. No matter the reason; unsold tickets, students sitting together, trouble getting through gate.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
Sweet baby Jesus...I'm not complaining about it...I'm talking about how it looked on that night, at that time...I've seen the corners empty before and don't care...but that night was more that usual.
I guess you know from experience, but 35 minutes is probably cutting it a bit close for a game with 65,000 spectators, if you want to see the entrance and aren't going with the team through the tunnel.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
Well just because you see an empty seat doesn't mean no one bought the ticket. Especially in the South End Zone. We used to print off extra tickets so that we could get our friends up into the North End Zone.

It's the best. It's the fuckin' BEST. I love the Rece quote. Such a badge of honor.
Question for program insiders: is there any internal reaction from our athletic dept when visiting teams decide to do their own entrance at the same time as ours? Do they find that to be in poor taste/sportsmanship?
I know it happens everywhere, and I get the reasoning: get out there while the crowd is focused on the home team; if you come out before or after the home team, you'll be booed mercilessly. But I do feel like there's a way to do it that doesn't take the piss. The U cheerleaders running out with the M - I - A - M - I flags just feels low-rent and agro. Which I'm sure, knowing The U, is the point...
Not "holier than thou"-ing here - I'm sure we do this too. I'm just curious to know if it's frowned upon by ADs, thought of negatively, or thought of at all.

Meaning the ACC made it conference policy for both teams to enter the stadium simultaneously? Any idea where I can find more info? All of a sudden I'm fascinated by this.

No, I'd have to search. Just remember something about it a while back and I don't remember a game I've watched where they didn't come out at the same time.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
Yeah, I've been down a rabbit hole about it for an hour. No joy yet.
It must be a new-ish thing (last few years or so)? Inside my aforementioned rabbit hole I watched a few of our Sandman entrances from like 2010-2012 and couldn't see any opponents entering in the background.
Hahahaaa the stuff we geek out on. Thx Navy!!

I think this is a big problem. Most people will wait int he first line they see, so that gate in the North West corner is mobbed while the other 5 have extremely short waits.

But thank you for bumping this thread, that's a great video.
Also, I can't remember exactly when we added Johnny Cash into the pre-Let's Go Hokies chant (can't be more than a couple years, right?) but I need to reiterate how much I love it.

Canadian football is the only thing that let's me make it through this time of year. I have been watching their preseason games the last two weeks and the regular season starts Thursday night. Other than they only have 3 downs, it feels like real football. It also helps that there are a lot of former college players that I recognize up there.

Saw this thread and felt like stirring up rumors. Metallica takes a month long break from touring between mid September and the end of October. There's a big game in Lane right in the middle of that window...
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
They're going to do Enter Sandman at FedEx right? Enter Sandman was in its beginning stages of being a Tech tradition the last time both teams played at Lane, and, due to their extreme inferiority complex, Mountaineer fans call our entrance "weak."
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
VT's entrance got robbed at the Battle at Bristol. We definitely had the fan base there to pull off something special if Tennessee hadn't purposefully botched it.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
That was complete BS. Tennessee cried that they couldn't do their "T" thing because there wasn't enough time to get their band on the field, so then they wouldn't let us do our entrance because it wasn't fair.

No Sandman for the Cincinnati game. It was originally a Cincinatti home game that Snyder bought out, so they got their logos on the field and their entrance.
The other two were scheduled as neutral field games.

You're welcome everyone.
Audio issues I think were ESPN based -- read about it on the Reddit game thread.
Thanks for posting this Hokie20. I had the same question as SevenLayers and looked for it last night and couldn't find it.
Thanks Hokie20. This is the first thing i saw this morning. I'm now ready to run through a brick wall before breakfast.
Thanks. That was awesome. The only thing that would make it better is if they rubbed a lame ass rock and ran down a hill.

Dahum! Thank you!

What Eric church song is it? I may have to rewatch the entrance I don't remember hearing church on there.
Disregard I rewatched it and heard it. Wow Erich Church, Johnny Cash and Metallica and Teller carrying the American flag.
'Murica
I pitch the American flag emoji but I guess that's not showing up
I think they should keep playing this all the way up to Sandman. Let the LETS GO-HOKIES go overtop of the music.
I am imagining how awesome it would be if 65,000 Hokie fans would clap and stomp to the beat of cut you down. I think it would just add to the intimidation factor.
I know the students do that....
We gotta get 65,000 doing it and rocking lane! I haven't been a game since this new entrance remix. I can't wait to experience it.
Got back to Ohio yesterday and wondered the same thing- the game replay cut right to the kickoff.
Thanks for asking!

here you go (should be commercial-free):
THANK YOU! Had to kill about 2-hrs today and this was perfect!
Video is no longer available
I'm sold. We should change it to this
Ok 2 things
1) This is amazing !!
2) Is there an unedited version of this?
Sure
I apologize for not being explicit (please know I still appreciate the post)
Does anyone have just the ESPN pre-coverage of Lane and the entrance? Preferably a YouTube video?
Its the video in the first comment (that video starts earlier, but its the same game)
This one below has the Sportscenter comments after the intro. (Note this is the full game from HokieTapes)

hokietapes on YouTube has the entire game posted including the Enter Sandman entrance from Sportscenter.

Is there a link in the first post? Not showing up for me.
Semi-related, anyone know if any of the other pregame footage is online? At one point supposedly they showed Enter Sandman from 2 years ago, the last Thurs Miami game.
Loved it all, but was disappointed to see so many empty seats!
Keep in mind there's a large section of the East Stands devoted to the visiting team.
Not that large, less than 4,000 tickets.
That entire section of East closest to the South endzone is for visitors, right? That upper corner?
Part of that yellow but not all of it.
All of the empty area was in the yellow though which is good. The stands were pretty full once everyone got in the stadium except for the upper corner of the east stands and the upper deck of the endzone.

I agree it was good was just hoping for GREAT with it being first home Thursday game in two seasons.

For the MILLIONTH time...that's on YOU if you try to enter stadium with less than :30 to kick
When you play with fire...

It's outdated, I used it to show smaller visiting team fan section.
While that's true and I pointed that out to the Clemson fan that questioned why our stadium wasn't sold out...it still did not look good!
The same thing happens at Clemson...
Again while that's true, I'm talking about the optics of seeing that many empty seats. No matter the reason; unsold tickets, students sitting together, trouble getting through gate.
It's never going to change so I don't see a point on complaining about it

Let's be honest, the real reason Miami came out during our entrance was because they wanted to see the coolest entrance in college football!
Meaning the ACC made it conference policy for both teams to enter the stadium simultaneously? Any idea where I can find more info? All of a sudden I'm fascinated by this
I saw the North entrance was a packed mess, walked to the South and walked straight in.
I walked in middle west stands near will call and waited 3-4 mins tops.
I think this is a big problem. Most people will wait int he first line they see, so that gate in the North West corner is mobbed while the other 5 have extremely short waits.
The entire entrance has become such a cool spectacle. The walk from
the football building to the stadium is especially cool.
Especially since we have this SOTA facility to walk through. People notice. 'Croots notice.

We certainly heard plenty of repetitions of "Rocky Top". I caught myself humming it a few times the following week.
I doubt it, the game at FedEx is a WVU home game that Snyder bought out.
No, it's not.
If it were, we'd have more than 1 WVU visit to Lane on the future schedules.
They let us do it for the Boise game (minus the "Let's Go" portion) and it was sooo hype.
I know they did it for the USC game in 2004 as well, but what about Cincinnati in 2012? I don't remember a whole lot from that season thankfully.
