For us old timers, we literally have been hearing about Miami being Bring Back for twenty years now. They were right from 2000-2004 or so, but this term goes all the way back to their mid 90s slip.

It's hard to imagine the U not being back. They dominated the ACC and even won it their first year out of the Big East. They went on to win a few more after that. Their long tenured HOF coach fizzled out in the last couple of years, but they made a great coaching hire and could very well find themselves in the playoff in the next couple of years if they can get some solid recruits in their program. Oh sorry, I think I got my Big East teams mixed up.

It is really hard to believe that since they entered the ACC, Miami hasn't even made it to the ACC championship game, let alone win one.

I think a certain team that came with them had quite a bit to do with that.

Do you remember Miami and FSU being adamant that the ACC couldn't be split into North and South divisions, because it would mean the ACC wouldn't get a ACCCG with NC implications and would prevent regular FSU-Miami ACCCG's?

to be fair, I don't want a north/south divisional split either, but that's just because I don't want to spend every year playing Big East refuges (Pitt, Syracuse, BC, UL) and FCS caliber teams (LOLUVa, Wake).

But seriously, if they wanted Miami in the championship game, they should have made sure we didn't play them every year.

The interesting thing to me is that if we added two more northern teams to make it 16 (ND & ???), VT would be in the northern group geographically. Right now Duke would be the team that would get pushed from northern to southern.

I'm not advocating a N/S split. I'm simply providing some history on the talks of a possible N/S split. That discussion lead FSU and da U to take a stance that regardless of split, they should be in different divisions.

I really do think the 2003 game since them into a downward spiral that they never recovered from. They hadn't been even close to getting embarrassed like that since we did the same exact to them in 1999.

to be fair, those early 2000s teams (especially 2001) were arguably the best teams that college football has ever seen, from an NFL talent perspective....

But yeah... that whole situation is a mess right now. Their Athletic Dept is all kinds of incompetent and they don't have the buy-in from the school itself to be a top program anymore. I wouldn't be surprised if they are angling to be a perennial 8-10 win team from here on out that is good enough to give the fans hope, but never really good enough to ever truly contend again. Not sure they want to go through that endeavor again.

I'll be happy if they are never "bak" because I enjoy a good laugh but on the other hand, having them being one of the top teams in the nation will only be good for the ACC

Yeah, I think that 2001 Miami team was the best I've ever seen. Dorsey was sacked like 3x all year.

The 1995 Nebraska team didn't allow a single sack I'm pretty sure. Crazy stuff.

I mean yeah that's impressive, but they ran the triple option.

We are the Hokies. We will prevail. We will prevail. We will prevail. We are Virginia Tech.

Yeah...those never happen.

That's the team most argue is right there with 2001 Miami. 1995 Nebraska was a machine.

I think there is a USC team and a Bama team in there as well.

I

I would love to see a playoff between 1995 Nebraska, 2001 Miami, 2004 USC, and probably 2016 Alabama

Definitely one of the best college teams that money could buy

I can imagine no more rewarding a career. And any man who may be asked in this century what he did to make his life worthwhile, I think can respond with a good deal of pride and satisfaction:
β€œI served in the United States Navy"

Look at a few stats...
daU hasn't won a bowl game since 2006. That was 3 coaches ago. (and there are 6 losses in that span too.)
daU hasn't won 10 games since 2003. That was the last year they were in the Big East.
daU has won more than 5 conference games ONCE since joining the ACC, in 2005, again, 3 coaches ago.
89-62 since joining the ACC. (not incl 2016)

Over the same span since joining the ACC in 2004, VT is 113-47 (not incl 2016)

So what you're saying is that Miami actually belongs in the AAC.

Mother of God I still cant figure out how to comment with a damn image on this site

There are wolves and there are sheep, I am the sheep dog

Make sure you use a url that ends in .jpg, .png, .gif, etc. You just put in a link to the imgur page your image was on instead of the image itself. Alternatively, at least in chrome you can right click and select copy image address and should get the right url that way.
