Ugh.

In Sam Rogers we trust.

Seriously, I was about to ask if it could get any worse but I'm afraid to...

Unfortunate news. What's worse is that because it's behind the paywalls, we will just have to wait to hear the nature of this injury. Looks like McCray and DPM have to step it up.

Based on the last scrimmage, Duan Perez Means and Darius Redman will be the two tight ends if this Malleck shoulder injury is true.

Five star get after it 100 percent Juice Key-Playing. MAN

I think at this point we should do three things:

1) Get rid of all uniform ideas and just have the players wear bubble wrap every game
2) Replace the sod of Worsham Field with a large Tempurpedic Mattress
3) Replace the pigskin with a nerf football

2) Replace the sod of Worsham Field with a large Tempurpedic Mattress

What better headline Sunday morning?

We've got this.

I have confidence that Perez-Means and McCray will step up.

Next man up.

I hope they let our guys use the big inflatable slide to get off the plane because I don't trust the stairs.

david teel just tweeted it as well. sigh...

I can't find this anywhere, except that Andy Bitter responded to a tweet by saying that Malleck was in shorts last night, and he wouldn't be surprised if he was injured.

That could mean anything.

Leonard. Duh.

He has a shoulder injury and could be out for the season.

Speechless

That hurts. He was poised to have a good year, I believe.

Godspeed, young man. Chin up. See you next year.

Leonard. Duh.

Will he get a medical.hardship? Or do you have to have season ending injuries in.multiple seasons

No, he will redshirt this year and have two more years to play. If he loses another season to injury, he can apply for medical redshirt.

Most players redshirt that first year (and you may note some of the redshirting players have "injuries" so it seems like they are redshirting due to injury not performance. That way if they get hurt, they have documentation to ask for the extra year). For Malleck, because he didn't redshirt his first year, it happens now.

I hoped it was less serious, but a torn labrum is no joke. Mend up, Ryan.

On the plus side, if one can be found, we get Malleck for two more years since he'll use his redshirt this season.

No, I *don't* want to go to the SEC. Why do you ask?

Shit. Fuck. Damn. Going to need the other TEs to step-up.

I wish you a speedy recovery, Ryan. Tough break.

"Exit light..."

On a positive note, Shuman is dressing and traveling with the team.

VHokie

WTF!? This is too many injuries, what the hell is going on in the program? Are the coaches pushing the players too hard?

Do we need conditioning/Gentry fired? Somebody else please see where I'm coming from.

-Being aggressive, being tough...that's the Virginia Tech way.

I sort of get tired of this discussion. Gregory had previous ACL issues, Schuman needed a scope (common), RVD has had previous shoulder issues I believe, JCC got rolled on...The coaches are coaching tougher which is what this team has needed. Injuries happen to everyone, it's just about next man up.

Well said. All these guys had previous issues, except Coleman - that was just a fluke accident because, well, football happens.

"Exit light..."

I never thought I'd see the day when someone seriously considered firing Gentry. Man's one of the best in the business. This isn't his fault. As has been said before, football happens.

I hear what you're saying. But Gentry, I don't think, is the right target.

Ligament damage can happen no matter who your trainers are. And as we've seen so far, it often does.

This is a message for Malleck and the rest of the team. Godspeed young man.

Hmmm, maybe you guys are right. But it doesnt change the fact that I'm pissed. Hokie football is my refuge. And I'm tired of analyst and everyone else saying we're going to get slaughtered. More injuries aren't helping my hope.

-Being aggressive, being tough...that's the Virginia Tech way.

I hear you, but you play the cards you are dealt.
I hope the team is pissed too and all of these setbacks fuels an 'us against the freak in' world ' attitude.
They've got nothing to lose.
Just put on the pads and go for it.

You should change your name to Ryan Mullet

Touchdown Tech - Bill Roth

I have said it ten times already, but it's worth repeating:

IT IS NOT THE SIZE OF THE DOG IN THE FIGHT, BUT THE SIZE OF FIGHT IN THE DOG.

I support Logan Thomas and make no apologies for it.

Well that's a big F-word right there.

Move Logan to tight end, and let Rogers run the show. Can't deny that pussy touchdown.

Why aren't we considering moving Rogers to LB? Aren't LB and FB very similar positions? Don't we need another LB? If Trimble or DiNardo gets hurt, I can forsee a situation where Foster is fuming on the sidelines asking, "Where can I get another linebacker?!!"....

"Don't worry coach, I got it" ~ Sam Rogers

being prepared to play at LB would take a full season to prep for. He can impact us immediately at FB or sit at LB

"I'm too drunk to taste this chicken" - Colonel Sanders via Ricky Bobby

I seem to recall some talk a few years back where someone on the Stanford staff, talking about Owen Marecic, said that they were comfortable letting him play both positions because the view of the field and approach to a play are very similar for those two positions. I've said it before and I'll say it again, I know little of the ins and out of actually scheming or playing football, but I'd love to see the kid play on both sides. Especially if he's our best option after an injury. Sam Rogers gets thrown into the fire. The fire concedes.

Let him play both both sides, FB/LB and occasionally QB just for the hell of it. This is not some normal kid we are talking about, it is Sam Drago Freakin Rogers, who was created in a top-secret lab under Lane Stadium and has a timer that currently reads 30 hours and 44 minutes..to...MAYHEM.

If DJ keeps adding weight we can just move him to TE. Would be a mismatch and we know he can block (just as UVA). I think we should just go in zero receiver sets and pound the rock with Sam Rogers.

Labral tear...speaking from experience creates massive instability in the joint, need titanium straps and biodegradable anchors. ..9-12 months you're as good as new, but it's a long road.
