UNC is not looking too hot. Need to stop being outright terrified of clowney

Can you blame them for not being scared of Clowney?

He's playing like crap, so they can't blame it on him.

Live for 32. Ut Prosim. Let's Go, Hokies.

UNC apparently decided they couldn't stop Clowney, so they're going to try to injure him. Pure class.

Somewhere, Paul Johnson is smiling.

Leonard. Duh.

I didn't see that but it sort of looks like he is falling away and behind clowney? If I'm wrong, that is sad.

No, got called for clipping. I missed it live, but SportsCenter just replayed it and it definitely looked dirty to me.

"Exit light..."

That's a bummer..it's not like Clowney was a real factor anyway...he was gassed most of the game.

So if somebody makes a good hard hit and the NCAA can suspend you longer than they did Johnny Hanc....I mean Football.

But a play like this that is clearly dirty just gets you 15 yards.....sometimes I hate the NCAA.

EDIT: See post below

It's Johnny Hancock.

So sick and tired of the ACC getting beat.

Well that is a bit much.

You're probably right. I live in South Carolina so Im going to be eating a lot of crow tomorrow, not something Im looking foward to. Plus I've been looking for any opportunity to incorporate Breaking Bad gifs. My apologies.

I thought it was appropriate. ACC gets our throats slit in big games every year.

that escalated quickly

Yep, UNC is going to get thrashed if this continues. On the plus side, we'll have a good amount of tape titled "How to beat UNC."

"Exit light..."

Unfortunately. To make things worse, UNC is supposed to compete for the Coastal. Disgusting.

It’s later than you think.

That's just media hype. Offense will be pretty good. But defense will be full of holes. Which we are seeing

#BEATOHIOST

Indeed. I think this "invisible" secondary strategy by UNC should be very exploitable by our (or just about anyone's) receiver corps.

It’s later than you think.

Yea the TDs that sc has gotten have been to shockingly open wrs

This game is so #goacc....and the 1st quarter hasn't ended yet

#goacc

Joffrey, Cersei, Ilyn Payne, the Hound, Jeff Jagodzinski, Paul Johnson, Pat Narduzzi.

UNC isn't that good this year.

In Sam Rogers we trust.

This better not be how Saturday looks. Someone talk happy to me.

Tell me about it. I feel like I just got cold water thrown on my face.

It’s later than you think.

I got back from a run to see it was 17-0...and I thought the run was painful...ouch.

their def is so small..... apparently injury ridden?

Starting to look a little better.

Took them a quarter, but they are settling down. Good drive even though they caught a few lucky breaks.

their offense isn't bad. If OL protects renner he really is dangerous. I see most of their games being shootouts

clowney has bad conditioning? interesting.

From a few things that I read, it almost seemed like they were letting Clowney take it easy during summer camp to avoid injuring him. I wonder if his overall condition took a hit from bubble-wrapping him.

"Exit light..."

I've never understood why coaches do that...that is how divas are formed.

I'd rather have a healthy diva then a broken-down humblebot.

It also seems like it's approximately 237 degrees there right now. That can take it out of anyone.

true. It should also be noted, just because the read option works doesn't mean that any QB can run it. he looked indecisive on that 2nd down run...just my 2 cents

didnt we take the same approach with rmfw in 2010? that didnt work out so well.

Totally called UNC muffing that punt...

"The Big Ten is always using excuses to cancel games with us. First Wisconsin. Then Wisconsin. After that, Wisconsin. The subsequent cancellation with Wisconsin comes to mind too. Now Penn State. What's next? Wisconsin?" -HorseOnATreadmill

That's fumble is how teams get run out of the stadium. If we can avoid shit like that, I don't think Bama runs away with it no matter how good they play.

You just absolutely cannot do that if you want to beat a top 10 team.

Well they got lucky since USC just squandered that

Also what the flip is up with Wake Forest right now?

"I don't know how many years on this earth I got left. I'm gonna get real weird with it." -Dr. Mantis Toboggan

I guess they had to throw in that "VT's offense is in shambles" line.

Only one returning starter from last year's O-line? GOOD. Needed an overhaul.

"Exit light..."

Really ESPN! Yeah we lost two tailbacks, but we still have the best one from spring and camp. That's some giraffe logic right there.

They and the rest of the college football world will see what this team is made of on Saturday.

In Sam Rogers we trust.

Nope I'm watching Liberty beating Kent State 10-7 at the end of the 3rd. Not the most impressive, but its an FCS team leading a MAC team in their own stadium through 3.

What network is the liberty game on?

Touchdown Tech - Bill Roth

It was on ESPN 3 ended up losing 17-10, my high school won their game 41-8 tonight so my teams are 1-1 so far this weekend.

Really like that punt block formation there. Line up 3/4 of your guys to one side and give simply more than can be blocked

#BEATOHIOST

USC looks good but UNC is just two or three plays from being in the game. The long TD run/pass, muffed punt, and getting just three points at the 2yd line. Does that sound familiar?

Touchdown Tech - Bill Roth

Hopefully those days are gone with Loeffler calling the plays now.

In Sam Rogers we trust.

Well, with the lightning delay, I think that'll about do it for UNC. Their only real hope was to get the ball back quickly and get a chance to continue to pound it at the USC defense, which has been visibly wearing down. Now, with those guys getting as much time as they need to rest and recover, I don't see how UNC is gonna be able to pull this out.

Well UNC's defense is still garbage. I'm not worried about them this year.

Onward and upward

We owe the University of Non Compliance payback, along with Pitt and da U. We do that, and 2013 is a huge improvement over last year

Hear. Hear. I don't care about the bowl game, ACC title, or anything. I want to see the Hokies make UNC, Miami, Pittsburg and UVa wish their mothers had never met their fathers.

Leonard. Duh.

Renner had happy feet all night. I know Clowney is great, but they let his presence dictate what they did. You have to run your offense and make him make plays.

Rip his freaking head off!

Hope he gets a bad introduction to James Gayle early on 10/5.

We put the K in Kwality

Not sure if it was Renner with "happy feet." This one is on the UNC coaching staff. Early in the game, they were so afraid of Clowney that they used screens and bootlegs almost too often, rendering them ineffective. When UNC attacked down the field, South Carolina had some real challenges covering their big receivers. They really dominated the second half, but could not finish drives.

I am not sure what UNC's defensive staff was thinking. In the second half when it was clear that the Gamecocks were going to run the football, UNC often only had 3-5 guys in between the tackles on defense. The dive chewed them up. UNC has good speed, but quick hitting plays with power backs will really give them fits.

Five star get after it 100 percent Juice Key-Playing. MAN

Renner's arm is suspect and his mechanics looked terrible last night. I'm no coach but I can tell when someone is throwing off-balance and puts floater after floater out there.

I was very suprised about Renner. I guess I never took notice in the past, but the guy never through further downfield than a 15 yd slant pattern.

Spenge the Man. Go Hokies!

lol towson beat uconn

@historyhokie.bsky.social

...and people were pushing for uconn to be the next ACC team...

Rutgers is losing in overtime to a decent Fresno st. team.

Touchdown Tech - Bill Roth

Rutgers went for two in the first overtime...incomplete. 52 - 51.

Touchdown Tech - Bill Roth

Ok, I'm sorry. I know we're in the #goacc and all but I'm absolutely ok with the tarholes getting hot karl'd by usce c-k's. I mean come on...it's unc.

DFWTF...DON'T FUCK WITH THE FULLERS

The only reason I wanted to see them win was so that they could get ranked, rattle off a few more W's (maybe go a bit higher in the Top-25), then have VT beat them down in Lane in October. I was fine with them losing, because it was expected.

"Exit light..."

I enjoyed watching UNC lose, but I think we saw a few things in this game that are really important. Ebron will be a stud TE for them. Gotta watch that guy. Hurst held Clowney in check, albeit Clowney appeared out of shape and winded when they weren't getting 3 and outs. UNC's defense is not much better than last year. USCe doesn't have a great offense, but UNC was giving up some big plays and getting gashed in the running game from what I saw. I didn't watch the end of the game after the delay, but just my 2 cents.

Yep, UNC's defense was terrible. If we can get a bit of ground game going, we can annihilate them with some play-action.

"Exit light..."

Football is just not UNC's strong suit - they need to stick to what they are good at: basketball and cheating.

Beat WVU

They're good at cheating?

They're good at not getting punished

Sounds like every other team/player that commits NCAA violations.

Joffrey, Cersei, Ilyn Payne, the Hound, Jeff Jagodzinski, Paul Johnson, Pat Narduzzi.

There's a trick to getting out of NCAA violations. Either play so poorly that vacating wins doesn't matter (See UNC and Miami) or win a Heisman (Johnny Hancock)

Two observations from last night:
1) UNC can't tackle runners.
2) UNC can't cover receivers.

As long as we don't give them yards and points on a platter like we did last season, it will work out for us.

No, I *don't* want to go to the SEC. Why do you ask?

We don't love dem Hoos.

UNC shot themselves in the foot a lot. They are a very poor tackling team it looks like. They finally got momentum and them muffed a punt which I instantly knew was going to be the turning point. After opening the second half with a 17 play FG drive, the give up a 75 yard TD run on the first play and then can't take advantage of a tired defense. The offense showed flashes of brilliance but wasn't consistent. Renner looked like he had horrid arm strength on a lot of his throws as well.

My God it was painful to listen to the commentators suck clowney's gamecock the whole first half. The guy was essentially a non factor. He was gassed badly and they said he claimed to be in the best shape of his life. I know the UNC offense is built to tire a defense but it was the first half and he was already a spectator on a lot of plays. UNC was able to handle him with the left tackle alone mainly and added some chips from the running back in there. When he lined up over the RT they slid the protection to help the freshman.

Clowney is a very good player but damn it gets annoying of them praising this guy like he already knows every sack record in the NCAA and NFL

"I'm too drunk to taste this chicken" - Colonel Sanders via Ricky Bobby

yeah man, they kept showing clowney's replay and a few times he just fell down over his own feet. it was obnoxious.
