Given how they have crept towards the Oregon theory, #allmarooneverything is a safe bet in one of the 12 games.
It's the #allwhiteeverything that scares me...

I actually like them. I'd obviously prefer #ALLMAROONEVERYTHING but this is actually a good uni. The shoulder stripes and much better than the LSU style.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
I doubt this is an overhaul of the entire uni, but, I'm curious about it as well. I love the rainbow pinstripes but the VT needs to go back to the collar. It really seems to stand out and not so much in a good way.
I also love the font.

I posted this pic in the helmet thread and as I said there, I'm not sure whether this is a really good photoshop or legit. My question would be why they did a photo shoot with them. Usually, they just put the uniform on a mannequin or show it laid out, not on a player in front of a real photography background.

Chris Coleman from TSL posted it late last night on Twitter asking the same thing, photoshop or real? General consensus was that it looked good enough to be real, but there's no news from VT Athletics or VT Football Equipment about it yet.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
I would think it's official because of the Chick fil a kickoff game symbol on it. Also TSL tweeted a picture of it earlier, I expect for Hokiesports to confirm it very soon.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
Someone who knows what they are doing in photoshop could put the kickoff game patch on a jersey. They don't change it from year to year. We should hear something by noon I hope about the jerseys.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
Can't see your pic, but the only time we've revealed jerseys actually on players (that I can remember) were the Pro Combat jerseys and they had a HUGE reveal for those.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
To me the design kinda looks like a 1990's jersey, and to clear up any confusion before it starts I'm not talking about any Hokie throw backs just the overall look, looks like a 90's design imo.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
Plus the VT is cartoonishly large. I'll reserve complete judgement until I see them on the field, but I feel a little let down. It doesn't feel very "fashion forward"...
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
I have to think that is photoshopped. Usually new nike jerseys fit extremely tight with that nice fly-wire collar.. This jersey is baggy, and the collar is way flimsy. Look at Tyrod in his pro-combats, the collar is so tight it doesn't fold over the shoulder pads. Also the pants are shiny--nike's new procombat super lightweight material doesn't have a shine to it--see FSU switching from shiny gold to flat gold pants.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
I thought about that too. The entire collar doesn't work from the way it sits on the pads to the cartoon VT. The sleeves are strange too. Everything now is about lightweight, tight fitting, and aerodynamic.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
here are unc's unis for the year, saw them last night. notice how tight the sleeves are and the difference in collar style. If those grey jersey's are for real--they seem very discombobulated. The stripes hint at 90's while the jersey hints at 80's. In the meantime the numbers are weird...nike is better than that.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
Well said. There is no way these uniforms could come from the same company. Especially for a marquee game...Nike would be doing themselves a complete disservice in their quest for world domination.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
I may be the only one who disagrees. But As a fan they look cool, but we need to get back to the basics we should be playing Bama in our original jerseys. I feel like were trying to come out and look pretty. And that's not what makes the top teams in the Nation better. Sure, you look good, but it doesn't always translate to the field well either. I don't want to get blown out by Bama wearing new jerseys it just makes us look bad if we were to lose this game like we did against Stanford....Smh
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
Nobody is suggesting that our uniforms are going to spur us to victory. This is about using our national exposure to show off something new. Getting blown out in all maroon would look just as bad.
It's just a uniform.
EDIT: I suppose I should say "nobody *should* be suggesting that our uniforms will make us better."
Also, I like them too lol
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
Yeah but you at least want to look good doing it. If these are real, they are, as many have said: "meh." On a funny note, it would be hilarious if VT equipment tweets a picture of white uni's. Happy friday everyone, gameday is tomorrow!
EDIT: and on the topic of everchanging uniforms...I want VT to get some nice modern ones, like the UNC ones I posted, and stick to them. I want winning to motivate the Hokies...not a pretty uniform.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
You're right wearing new uniforms won't make us play better and losing in all maroons looks the same as losing in a new uniform. But what I'm trying to say is I rather lose in our usual "get ups" than a new uni. I loved our Boise state game jerseys, but we lost in them. I loved our Orange helmets for the Stanford game, but we lost in them. I loved our orange pants and we've won a few games and won in them, but the point I'm getting at is I don't want VT to be known as one of those teams that isn't winning but will be known for there look on the field. ***Cough***...(Maryland). And this is just my opinion, but when we were new jerseys to games like this when we don't win it sticks with me, because that's when I remember those games by those jerseys because we lost in them.
And I'm not saying were going to lose the Bama please don't take my words out of context. I still believe we will win this game.
GO HOKIES!
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
you hinted at it, but I don't like when teams get superstitious about what uniforms they wear. Many schools wear the same 2 or 3 uniforms all year long that they win or lose in. At that point it's not about the uni's it's about performance.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
I'm not hinting at superstitions especially when I don't believe in them period! I'm stating my opinion about them. It doesn't matter what you wear its how you play the game. What I said was I don't want VT to be one of those teams that puts so much into what they wear over how they play. I could careless what colors they wear. I'm a fan of the game that's played on the field not of fashion. I agree with Vtae13 I'm not coming at you in a disrepectful way, but to be honest I'm more worried about if our players are going to hold up in this game the way we've been injured lately.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
I understand, I was just saying, similar to how you remember certain jerseys for performance, I get afraid that players do the same thing. I am a fan of the game and want to watch the team win--I'd like them to establish jerseys that they wear no matter what so they don't associate them with wins and losses...just hard fought football.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
At least they're not too much over the top, but otherwise, this is a bunch of "meh" to me.
I still don't see why we can't just wear our normal maroon jersey. My only guess is that we might see these again if/when they decide to use the pylons on the side of the helmet.
I'll probably like them a lot more once we #BEATBAMA in them though.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
Shiny pants and huge stitching for the pad pockets? Pants look like they are from the 90s. I think this is probably a very good photo shop. That being said, I don't hate it but matte grey pants would be preferrable to the late 90s shiny look.
I really don't give a damn what we wear tomorrow. Just show up to play.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
I think you are right about a darker shade of grey. I still believe this is just a rendering from someone with good photoshop skills because everything looks so dated. We will see tomorrow.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
I don't really like em to be honest. I don't hate them either i guess. I think it's something that i'll have to see on the field to really make up my mind, if this is legit of course.
Even if you say you like it, you gotta admit you weren't excited when you saw them at first. I just want something where i'm like, "Oh hells yeah!" when i see it...
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
2 reasons I think this is photoshopped besides it looking dated with the puffy sleeves:
1) The picture is extremely pixelated and there is very bad discoloration in the numbers
2) The ACC patch is WAY too high. It goes on the right side of the chest, opposite the Nike swoosh, not on the shoulder.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
Helmet also looks wrong. The image we have of the helmet has that sort of sparkly, metal-flake effect in it. Maybe this image is too low-res, but it seems that's missing. I would also think that the right edge of the American flag should be visible from the angle Gayle is holding it.
Maybe this is also an image quality issue, but it also seems to me that Gayle isn't casting a shadow, which is usually a dead giveaway for a 'shop job. Could be lighting that messes with that, though, so not necessarily definitive.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
They are just ok. Not great, not terrible. I wish they would put some Hokie Stone detail on them or something. I would rather us wear all maroon or white than these particular gray uniforms though. Reminds me too much of West Virginia's gray ones...and eff WVU

1. The resolution is not good. A professionally taken photo would not look like that. A photo that was uploaded into photoshop and then copy / pasted out could.

3. Look at how crisp and professional the WVU shot is a few comments above.

The more I look at this, the more I think it isn't real. Besides, if this were real, it looks like a pretty official photo and I don't think VT would allow something like this to leak before they could say something.
When I first saw the Boise jersies it was from a picture someobody looked like they took with a camera phone.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
Why are the pants silver-ish/reflective and the jersey's are not? Also, the shoulders have wayy too much air under them to be a modern jersey. The jerseys nowadays are extremely tight everywhere on the body. This jersey looks like one from the late 90s/early 2000s.
I'd hope it's a fake...
Oh also another HUGE giveaway. That's the haircut/facial hair rocked as an underclassman. He doesn't even look like that anymore.

I have examined the photo thoroughly and I believe it very well could be a photoshop job. Around the face mask there is a bleed over top of it. The orange border clearly is over parts of the facemask. This is impossible. Some would say it could be a reflection however the color wouldn't wrap all the way around therefore I believe it is a very good photoshop.
There are also halos around several elements in the photo that could show a skilled photoshop person cutting corners.

I like the design, I just don't like the colors. The subtle orange/maroon stripe is cool. Just replace gray with maroon, and the maroon numbers for white, and you have yourself a fine-looking uniform.

replace the gray with marron, and we have epicness. Hopefully those will be in store for this year
A little birdie told me that there will in fact be #ALLMAROONEVERYTHING this year.
Given how they have crept towards the Oregon theory, #allmarooneverything is a safe bet in one of the 12 games.
It's the #allwhiteeverything that scares me...
When we did #GOODGUYSWEARWHITE and the #ALLWHITEEVERYTHING a few years back, I thought those were the best Nike Pro Combat jerseys pretty much ever.
I hope your little birdie is right. #ALLMAROONEVERYTHING = victory
Not bad, not bad at all.
I actually like them. I'd obviously prefer #ALLMAROONEVERYTHING but this is actually a good uni. The shoulder stripes and much better than the LSU style.

Yeah, I'm ok with it. At least there is no dominate orange in the jersey and we are wearing maroon helmets.
I posted this pic in the helmet thread and as I said there, I'm not sure whether this is a really good photoshop or legit. My question would be why they did a photo shoot with them. Usually, they just put the uniform on a mannequin or show it laid out, not on a player in front of a real photography background.
Can I ask who the source is? Not showing up from Beamer Ball, VT Football, or any of the reporters I normally follow.
Chris Coleman from TSL posted it late last night on Twitter asking the same thing, photoshop or real? General consensus was that it looked good enough to be real, but there's no news from VT Athletics or VT Football Equipment about it yet.
Thanks. It certainly looks legit, otherwise it's a heck of a 'shop job. Probably leaked somehow.
Chris Coleman from TSL posted it overnight:
I would think it's official because of the Chick fil a kickoff game symbol on it. Also TSL tweeted a picture of it earlier, I expect for Hokiesports to confirm it very soon.
Someone who knows what they are doing in photoshop could put the kickoff game patch on a jersey. They don't change it from year to year. We should hear something by noon I hope about the jerseys.
Ah yes didn't think about that.
guilty of this.
Colston from TSL is where I ganked it from.
And on the photo shoot, this is all that needs to be said:

Can't see your pic, but the only time we've revealed jerseys actually on players (that I can remember) were the Pro Combat jerseys and they had a HUGE reveal for those.
Those uniforms looked so good but are tainted by the Boise 4th quarter, I still cant use them when I play EA sports NCAA games.
4th quarter???.....how about the 1st quarter when we shit the bed and had to play catch up the entire game?
To be honest i try not to remember that game, the lasting memory I have is of the last TD we gave up to lose.
To me the design kinda looks like a 1990's jersey, and to clear up any confusion before it starts I'm not talking about any Hokie throw backs just the overall look, looks like a 90's design imo.
I agree. It feels dated to me...
Plus the VT is cartoonishly large. I'll reserve complete judgement until I see them on the field, but I feel a little let down. It doesn't feel very "fashion forward"...
I honestly cannot decide if I like it or not.
Also, if anyone can find a source picture of Gayle standing like that in another uniform then we know it's probably fake.
I think it's legit.
Someone save warthog from my scroll finger
Gotcha.
Thanks, creeping up on that kiloleg.
(engineering joke sort of)
Metric system FTW! I'm a biochemist, so I totally get it and think it is hilarious.
Dude the metric system is the tits. If we could switch to the metric system I'd love it.
Maybe I'll feel different when I see them Saturday night in real time but just based off this photo......me no likey
When did we switch to Champion jerseys?
I'm not sure why the pic won't show up, but yeah, it was the pic with the Corps of Cadets (E. Royal's sister?)
I'm down. Fuck it. We're wearing elephant grey to beat the best team in the nation.
Bring. It. On.
Not Eddie Royal's sister. She graduated in '07. I was a senior in the Corps this semester (fall '10). But solid promo pic
Royal was class of '06, I'm 07.
That's not Royal's sister. I think you are talking about Christine. She was the Regimental Executive Officer for the Corps.

Man those Unis looked nice last night..They would have looked even better if they won the game.
They kind of remind me of the Panthers in some way...
that's my point, nike can't design those UNC uni's and in the same breath design those grey ones. Either way UNC looked nice. I liked em.
Well said. There is no way these uniforms could come from the same company. Especially for a marquee game...Nike would be doing themselves a complete disservice in their quest for world domination.
I don't get why the tweet about it claims that Russell made them...why would Russell Athletic ever make NIKE sponsored jerseys...no sense.
Good points.
Said it on another post....looks like 1988 with the flared out shoulders.
This could be a mockup jersey, just one from Premiere/Nike to show what they look like and will be made with Flywire for the game.
This could have been taken months ago.
The more I look at that VT though...fuck.

Agreed. If you zoom in, you can see evidence of photoshop (in my opinion). I don't mind grey, just hope they are an upgrade over these.
They look like they came right off the rack at Walmart. If these are truly our uniforms for tomorrow, I'm disappointed. Gross...

Tight fitting, tight collar, matte pants...that is nike.
WTF SHINY PANTS
I'm pretty convinced that photo is fake.
1. The resolution is not good. A professionally taken photo would not look like that. A photo that was uploaded into photoshop and then copy / pasted out could.
2. Those pants can not be real for a variety of reasons - the shine and the stitching most notably. Nike would not do that.

So...does everyone think we're gonna pull a maryland from a few seasons back?
Why are the pants silver-ish/reflective and the jersey's are not? Also, the shoulders have wayy too much air under them to be a modern jersey. The jerseys nowadays are extremely tight everywhere on the body. This jersey looks like one from the late 90s/early 2000s.
I'd hope it's a fake...
Oh also another HUGE giveaway. That's the haircut/facial hair rocked as an underclassman. He doesn't even look like that anymore.
THIS. James Gayle is now larger and has a different haircut. FAKE.
Come on TSL, do we have to do all your dirty work for you?
DEAD GIVEAWAY
looks like butt
Agree. I think they look turrable.
Have to agree, aside from the large VT on the chest, I like them. We've definity looked better, It stinks that I have to say this, but at least there aren't orange pieces of turd on the side of the helmet.
I feel like an idiot.
Sorry guys. :(
No worries, it was worth posting regardless of validity. You did good
Not to worry, I took action regarding the photo. Let's see what Gayle himself has to say.
Probably not going to answer, as they usually stop using social media once they get on the team Bus, and I think they've already started their travel to the game.
Welp... I tried.
JC Coleman tweeted an hour ago that he was in class.
Does that mean he's not traveling? Or they haven't left yet? this is unsettling.
I'm not sure they would have left so early. Bowl games are different, where they get extra practices on-site. I would think they would head out mid-day today since the trip is only a few hours by bus.
Yeah they're not leaving until tonight
Thanks for the info. And welcome to TKP.
Players were still here when I was on campus at around 10.
They fly charter to just about every away game except uva. I know they flew to DC last year. They usually don't leave until mid afternoon depending on length of flight.
They're flying to ATL too I'm pretty sure
It all looks so blowzy. (sp)
Total fake: change the size and you can see the degradation in the quality of the pic -usually only happens when:
I think this is the alternative road-uni, but I didn't know we're doing exhibitions in the UK...
I hope that is a fake because I am not a fan. That looks like a high school uniform and not even a good one.
yea i hope its a fake as well. looks like a walmart quality uni
Now I really feel hilarious. Just saw @andybittervt popped a link up of the post.
Not only am I certain that they aren't real (who knew photoshop has gotten to the point of being that good) but a reputable writer for the hometown rag of the Hokies thought I was equally on point.
What a silly goose I am. Lol.
Sorry again, and I really can't wait to see our real uniforms. I wish @vtfbequipment would hurry the hell up.
Looks like you were right minus grey pants. Good job!
@vtfbequipment will probably wait until they are all hanging up in the locker room tomorrow and tweet a picture. The players know something about the uni's though. They are just keeping quiet.
If these are real I would be shocked that we would take WVU leftovers. It is the same design, this cannot be.
But even if 'shopped, he posed in some jersey, at some point. Why and when was this picture taken?
And his cleats/gloves are relative to this year... so the "this picture was taken in 2010" theory isn't plausible.
agreed. I could definitely be wrong. The compression on the photo makes it tough to know for sure.
Definitely a 'shop. I can tell by the pixels.
I'm convinced now, too. Zoom in on the Nike swoosh on the shoulder - you can see that it's a square layer pasted onto the jersey.
Did some digging.
The gloves he is wearing were worn last season. Here is a picture from HokieSports posted on August 6, 2012. I hope this means that this jersey was either tested back then or this is a photoshop over another jersey he tried on.
Grey.....meh.....#ALLMAROONEVERYTHING
Someone needs to be designated the official fashion analyst and write a weekly blog. Y'all take this stuff way to seriously.
Upvote the hell out of this. Hate to cater to stereotypes, but this is the perfect thing for one of our HokieFillies to contribute.
I love uniform design and good hard fought football games. lol
We can win in this uniform!

haha its made it here too
It's official. I guess these must have been mockups for the real thing...Hope it looks a little sharper come game time.
Ugh. Why not ALL MAROON??? IF YOU HAVE MAROON PANTS???
I'm pretty sure it's because beamer doesn't want them in their white Uni's
I liked the all grey....
No more grey unis!
I tried to like them. I really did. But they were just awful. I really hope we dont wear that design all season...
I like the design, I just don't like the colors. The subtle orange/maroon stripe is cool. Just replace gray with maroon, and the maroon numbers for white, and you have yourself a fine-looking uniform.
its just sad they took the old WVU template for this jersey.
