Well, its definitely been a crazy season so far. However recruits are starting to take notice and its nice to see on the twitter and facebook and other social media pages.
By now i'm sure everyone knows that Jalen Hurd will be leaving UT and Fuente, TGuerry and I think Cornelsen followed him on twitter ASAP. I'm sure they have already had conversations and that is a step in the right direction. Do I think VT has a chance who the heck knows, I do know that UT will not release him to any SEC school or a school they play next year so that being said.
Teams that are out-> THE WHOLE SEC & GT, Indiana State & Umass.
Jalen Holston still seems super high on VT and VT seems to have him as priority #1 in terms of the RB class. Team that scares me and everyone else is Georgia. Late Offer and he could be heading to UGA.
Deon Jackson-> Committed to Duke has shown more interest in VT lately. Per 247 his mom will be heavily involved with his recruitment and academics are HIGH on her list.
Current Commit Silas Dzansi has gotten a lot of talk lately and has been bumped up to 4* recruit from FUMA. This is big news and at 6'6" 300 he has a good chance to probably crack the 2 deep.
Tyjuan Garbutt has been very pro VT and I expect him to re-commit to VT when he is ready. I think the issue is not wanting to piss off his HS Football coach more than him not wanting to go to VT.
Bobby Roundtree-> DE recently received an offer from VT and has made his final cut. Good to see VT recruiting DE's especially from FL. IMO a high 3* from FL is pretty damn close to a 4* for sure.
Devon Hunter-> Some sauces that I have from UofFL are already throwing in the towel for him to land at VT. That is good news to hear however anything can happen down in the Swamp.
Feel free to add more as the month goes on. After the GT game we will probably get some more info as that seems to be a big recruit week.

Watched him play on the WWL when Trinity Christian played IMG. Tiny kid, but lightning fast with moves for days. Clearly stood out as a speed/quickness mismatch. He lined up at QB a lot, designed runs, out on the edge etc. Doesn't throw it well but that's moot because he won't be a QB - he's mainly in the backfield because of the In High School The Most Talented Player Must Touch The Ball On Every Play rule.
Could be heir apparent to Stro, returning kicks but playing WR instead of corner, and with better ball skills (and I think Stro has been our most improved DB). Another good comparison could be Jamison Crowder, who is currently playing really well for the 'Skins.
He'd be a weapon. Main worry is size, but if small guys who can fly and catch the ball are carving a niche for themselves, this kid could be one of them.

DJ Matthews is still committed to FSU.
DJ was in town last weekend with fellow 5star shaun wade (OSU commit?) and rasheed martin (3star) for the game. Isaiah has really done a good job of selling the school and telling DJ how good he could be in our system also heard that shaun is really really high on bud foster. we are the only school to offer all 3 of these kids and they want to stay together. add in we just got a commit from 18 chamari conner safety from trinity and its looking really good for us. a lot of people out of jax are saying its a done deal and they will all be headed to VT. I sure hope so!
kids from programs like that are hardly ever package deal. They have 10+ kids that will play d1 ball.
this isn't my perspective this is from sauces close to them. that those 3 specifically want to stay together. now I don't know if it will or wont happen as 2 of them are committed already dj to FSU and shaun to OSU and those are pretty hard to flip but I do think we have a good chance and I think with what Isaiah has been to the program and a lot of other things in our favor too that its looking better and better everyday.
With the exception of Bishop Gorman in Nevada. Holy shit OSU is raking in talent there
Should note OLB Nathan Proctor, which we are recruiting as a DE, was just recently selected to the Under Armor All-American game. He's pretty high on us as well.
Depending on the major, we might actually have difficulty flipping a mom on academics between VT and Duke. We better hope he is interested in business or engineering.

If you're asking if VT has a better lacrosse program, Duke has 3 national titles and VT doesn't even have a Division 1 team.
If you're referencing the alleged rape case, it was proven false, the charges against all of the Duke players were dropped, and the original prosecutor was disbarred and jailed for a day for criminal contempt.
Off topic to recruiting but It's amazing to me how, even today, you find people who still think that Duke Lacrosse case was legit. Media did a horribly unfair job covering the case, you had people like Christine Brennan just burying the kids and then never write a single follow up when the truth came out. The 30 for 30 on that whole thing is incredible. Sad ending for the accuser as well. Mental illness is a terrible thing

VT's engineering school as a whole is generally ranked ahead of Duke's Pratt but more or less even.
Duke DOES NOT have a better engineering school than Tech. A quick rankings search has Tech 28 and Duke 44 in one poll, Tech 16 and Duke 18. Despite what you think of rankings, I have been an employed engineer for about a decade and can't say I have ever met a Duke engineer, never have I heard Duke mentioned when people talk about enge schools.
Same here. I've worked with some GT, NCST, RIT, MIT, OSU, Cal-Poly. But I don't recall working with any Duke engineers.

I mean, it really does depend on the actual school within engineering. I think VT still has the top rated Mining and Mineral Engineering program in the country. Aerospace is pretty well ranked (but not ever engineering program offers it). I'm sure Mechanical is near the average rank of the whole college of engineering.
What I hear from people who WORK with engineers (and aren't necessarily engineers themselves) is that VT produces engineers that (compared to UMD and other schools) work better in teams, can communicate their results well to project leaders, and have a "get this done" attitude.
Regardless of rank, hokie engineers have a great reputation and thats good enough for me.
I'm just going to throw in a reminder here that VT has the #1 College of Natural Resources in the country.

True but they take a different view of undergraduate business programs -- much like some of the top Ivy leagues schools. They don't have any problem placing grads in grad business programs.
When I was at Tech, we visited Duke for an ASME conference. Their engineering facility was top-notch, but was a small program. Their labs looked like a TV or movie set, but that's what private schools backed by the Richie-Rich's of the world can do.
In the design competition we entered, our team had a $300 budget while theirs easily must have been around $10K.
I still think our Engineering Department tops theirs though.

This really makes me wonder if I navigate TKP similarly to most others.
Same. I have the tracker set as my homepage so I always just go from there. I don't think I've ever actually clicked the "forum" tab in my 4+ years as a member/lurker.
This adds to my thought even more. I never click on the Tracker or Forum buttons. Usually just stay in touch with Active Discussions on right side and will periodically check my own comments to see if I've had replies that I've missed.
Sorry for this OT tangent, but the thought processes and different ways people do such things is interesting to me.

On a smart phone, going to the tracker is best because the active discussions listing is all the way at the bottom. I actually took safari off my home screen and just have a direct link to the tracker there instead. Before joe added the next new comment buttons I avoided using TKP on my phone entirely but now it's about and even split.
I typically just use the Active Discussions, but occasionally click the forum tab to seek out specific information. I happened to be looking for this thread, but couldn't find it under Recruiting.

Is Trinity Christian Academy the Florida equivalent of Bishop Sullivan Catholic in VA Beach? The amount of talent there I've seen, solely tied to VT recruiting, seems absurd.
Kind of. IMG is by far number 1. Currently 9 of the top 21 "Florida" kids attend IMG. Florida being in quotes because the majority of kids are from other states and just went down there senior or junior year. Some would argue that IMG isn't even a school. Bishop Sullivan looks more regional as of now. There are a handful of smaller private schools that probably are closer to Bishop Sullivan like St. Thomas Aquinas or American Heritage. And Trinity

Eh, 2-3 years ago I would agree. But they have tried to step up their game by actually scouting players more than in the past plus they have actual scouting reports unlike the other services.
It's still not the premier rankings outlet, but it's a lot better than it's been in the past.

A lot of big visitors this week, but I don't see any of them committing on the spot. Recruiting a player is a marathon, not a sprint. Hopefully Fuente and Co. put on a good showing against GT and the crowd is noisy. Keeping them excited about their possibilities on the team interested in the program from now until signing day is the big challenge; getting them here for 1 weekend for free stuff is easy.

Coleton Beck of Blacksburg had 436 yards and 6 touchdowns in the first game of the playoffs last night. He's a junior this year and ran for close to 200 yards and 5 touchdowns last week against Christiansburg.

Sounds like VT's recruiting mantra for OL since 2010.
great attitude for a fan, crappy attitude to have as a coach.
Maybe even before that. That said, I would say OL is the hardest position to project from HS. Even as recruiting has increased exposure significantly by scouting services, you still see lots of lower rated guys turning into high level players on the o line.
Well French seems to be able to immediately point out things that indicate success in college. But then again he has mentioned that he disagrees with our current OL coahcing philosophy.
There are also more OL on the field than any other position. I do agree it has a higher differential between rankings and success, but there is still a pretty strong correlation between being a higher ranked OL and making it to the league. Hell of our last few OL drafted they were 4 stars even though they didn't play til later in their careers here.

Another promising look for Pimpleton is the increased utilization of CJ Carroll both in the passing game and on jet sweeps. Looks to be guy who can spark the offense and make some big plays. Lightning quick guy.

FWIW, looks as though both Gaddy twins have decommitted from Tennessee today. Haven't followed their recruitment all that closely but they're from VA so I have to figure we stand at least a shot at landing them

Side note: Players who are big and "commit" on a national stage can bend a lot of admissions rules but these guys must be below a very critical mass if SATs truly are the reason they are dipping.
The academic differences between UMD and VT are not vast enough that the Dazz Newsome offer makes sense in relation to his SAT scores.
While I do believe you're right in the academic differences, it may have been in the way that Fuente didn't want to offer until he knew that he would qualify whereas Maryland was willing to offer without knowing if he would or would not qualify. This is 100% speculation on my part.

Yea I would say at that point I don't want any part of those kids anyways. It's fine to have no interest in a school or to not have the grades to get in but that kind of immaturity is embarrassing.

Considering how SAT scores just came out and many new offers went out in the last 24 hours, I think it is quite clear if you read between the lines.
Considering they still have several months to re-take the SAT and get a passing score I doubt that the date has anything to do with the de-commitment. It's not like you can only take it one time. Plus the brothers are talented enough to take the chance they eventually get in
4* DB Deommodore Lenoir recently decommitted from Oregon.
Reaching all the way out to the west coast, especially this late in the process seems like a stretch, but it's not like there is a risk here in sending out an offer. Recruiting footprint seems to be expanding under the new regime.
Deommodore Lenoir is just a fun name to say out loud, really rolls off the tongue.
I hope he goes Navy ROTC so that some day in the distant future he can be Commodore Deommodore Lenoir.

True as stated but the title still exists in the Navy. When Captains oversee multiple ships or teams they can be called Commodore as an honorary title. Most naval special operations role up to a group Commodore.
