I like Grobe as a man and coach. Very happy that being at Baylor has put him as a winning coach for his lifetime again. But, he is a figure head at this point, anybody watching the games knows that the old assistant coaches are running the show there.
What will be interesting is next year. How many of those assistant coaches will be gone?

What's our rooting guide this week? A part of me wants unadulterated chaos. But I also want Clemson undefeated for when we curb-stomp them in the ACCCG.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
Not that I think we really have a real shot (or even really deserve) at the playoffs, but we would need supreme chaos for that to happen. I think that means that EVERYBODY would need a minimum of 1 loss. So rout for the underdogs and let Chaos Reign.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
chaos note, an unblemished Bama solidly as #1 helps keep 1 loss non-champion teams out like potentially Louisville or Michigan-tOSU loser. So root accordingly.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
Our best chance probably lies with Bama, Michigan, and Washington going unbeaten. That alone means that Ohio State (currently 1 loss), Nebraska (1), Auburn (2), Florida (1), LSU (2), Colorado (2), and Utah (2) each end up with at least one more loss. That alone would give us a chance, depending on the whims of the CFP committee.
As insurance, here is the list of other things that would pretty much guarantee the 4th seed for us, in order of most to least necessary:
- Clemson and Louisville tripping up twice total between the two of them, so that one has 2 losses and misses the ACCCG and we hand the other their 2nd loss in the ACCCG
- Ohio State dropping one more, maybe this weekend to Nebraska.
- Wisconsin dropping one more, either during the regular season or by sneaking into the B1GCG by virtue of Nebraska dropping one more, probably this weekend to Ohio State.
- Baylor, WVU, and Oklahoma each dropping at least one more game. None have played each other, so if they each went 1-1 against the other two that'd be awesome, and even if they don't OU still plays OSU and WVU still has Texas left.
- Western Michigan dropping one.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
As per my other post in this thread, here is your rooting guide for the weekend, in order of how much we need each result (both in terms of general "we need [Team A] to lose sometime this year" as well as how many other teams are left on [Team A]'s schedule that are liable to beat them):
- Syracuse over Clemson
- Nebraska over Ohio State
- Northwestern over Wisconsin
- TCU over Baylor
- Boston College over Louisville
- Iowa State over Oklahoma (ha)
- Kansas over WVU (ha no)
None of them are critical, thankfully.
If you'd rather we beat a 12-0 Clemson team in Orlando, we'd want Washington to drop 2 and Utah and Colorado to each drop one, so replace the Syracuse-Clemson game with:
- Cal over Washington
- UCLA over Colorado

Hey, did any of you know that if a DB is pulling on the jersey of the WR, all the way down the field that it's a penalty? In fact, it's 2 penalties if the ball is thrown to the WR: 1) holding and 2) Pass Interference. Just saw both called on 1 DB in tonight's game.
I wonder if Nards knows about these rules.

Just catching the end of the game and saw one play with "Park" at QB. My first thought was that it was indeed Jacob Park and I came here to post about it. Quick look online shows him and another QB have been splitting reps. Anyone who has been watching the game know the QB situation in Ames?

Pulling for anyone in a GT-UNC game feels wrong, but a GT win helps us. GT always a scary game, pretty worried about that one, but who am I kidding, the last few years have made me nervous about almost every game.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
A&M will likely come back and win this game, but I think jumping all over A&M for this is stupid if we are choosing to completely ignore that Clemson should have lost to a comparably awful NC State team at home. But most people here don't have an issue with Clemson at #2 because #goACC.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
If we (people at large) give A&M shit for going down early to a bad team, but ignore that Clemson should have lost to a comparably bad team at home and support their #2 ranking aggressively because we just want to rag on the SEC and prop up the ACC is stupid. Wasn't particularly directed at you, more of a "let's not jump to team bashing" kind of statement.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
I agree, I was just saying in general, but now it is definitely looking like A&M might lose. Knight trying to play injured and their offense looks off. Plus State is having their way with their defense right now.
Personally I don't care about the rankings, they play themselves out.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
This is totally embarrassing, but Georgia Southern actually runs a fun to watch offense, if you haven't gotten a chance to watch them recently. They moved from the traditional triple option to a spread version. Very fun to watch them in their bowl game last year.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
This years offense has not been fun to watch in the least bit. New coaching staff took the nations leading rushing offense last year and reduced them to nothing. This is the first game where they actually resemble their old selves kinda.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
Exactly, and if you don't buy this, I haven't checked the updated rankings after this week, but going into this past week, Clemson led the nation in penalties assessed against its opponents. If you are thinking "this just happens for all top teams" Alabama was 126th.
Very scary seen at the shoe. Nebraska QB suffered what seemed like a serious concussion/neck injury. Had to cut jersey and equipment of and strapped onto the board. Gave a thumbs up while being loaded into the ambulance!
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
As someone who has worked in the first responder field since 2003 I have to say I'm floored that OSU doesn't own a medical cart. They placed an injured person on a backboard on an equipment flatbed car, nothing securing the board to the cart, no place for a provider to sit with him. All those millions and nothing spent on safety.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
I was wondering what in the world they were doing with that. They had to have someone run behind it too hold the board on. Glad to see his pops was able to ride in the ambulance, hopefully they provide a way for the fianc to get to the hospital as well.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
But that one was for hitting a defenseless player in the head or neck area. By sliding he was defenseless and he was hit in the area. Still weak though!

How dare we have a formal name with initials! Maybe we should start calling GT the Georgia Institute of Technology. I'm sure they will be deeply offended.
Guess I should have saved that for the hatin' on thread.

That has to be the crappiest looking website architecture for chatting that I have ever seen. I am pretty sure that my somewhat nerdy 12 year old son could whip up an easier to read format in a day or two. Has it always looked that bad? Wow, pretty sad for the loluva fans...errrr....nope not anymore. Just keep losing hoos.

Alabama defense is relentless. In the age of spreads, a good QB with time could take advantage, but they are great at stopping the run.
That said, the last two years Saban tweaked his defense that had statistically never been good at getting to the QB and now two years in a row they've led in sack rate, unreal.
I would be very confident in saying nobody can beat them this year if they develop an intermediate passing game. Time will tell though and college football rarely fails to be full of surprises.

So Miami smoked Pitt. 28-51. Kept Pitt under their FBS season average of 36 and kept Conner to 40 yards. Not sure why Conner only got 12 carries though, they should just feed that man the ball.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
In Connor's 40 yds was a single run for 15. He averaged 2.3 yd per carry for the rest. Miami did a very good job making Pitt 1 dimensional. If they are forced to win on Peterman's arm, they are in trouble.
I'll also point out that Kaaya shredded their secondary. I watched about 1/2 of the game and saw very little of the jersey pulling that we saw when VT played at Pitt, which meant their WR's could get separation, making for very easy throws for Kaaya.

I think WMU avoided the curse of the 17, because ESPN switched to the CFP rankings (really fast, too).
I think you may have something there:
#17: Baylor
TCU looks hopeless this year, but I guess it's possible they could out Baylor-Baylor.
Mission accomplished.
Jim Grobe will out Baylor-Baylor
I like Grobe as a man and coach. Very happy that being at Baylor has put him as a winning coach for his lifetime again. But, he is a figure head at this point, anybody watching the games knows that the old assistant coaches are running the show there.

LET THE CHAOS BEGIN
*GLARES AT ERIC DUNGEY*
That guy probably deserves his own Hatin' On thread, but I really don't want to think about him at all.
What's our rooting guide this week? A part of me wants unadulterated chaos. But I also want Clemson undefeated for when we curb-stomp them in the ACCCG.

I am hoping the B1G feeds on themselves over the next couple weeks so they all have multiple losses.

Was gonna come back and say "Hey, we got one!", but I guess I forgot about aTm when I made this list and the one in the post above that one.
TCU is giving Baylor all they can handle, and then some, so far.

Fuck Narduzzi
OK about to clean Iowa States house. Hopefully some recruits see the half empty stadium and the loss and take notice.
I'm OK with that.
Jacob Park starting for Iowa State.
Just catching the end of the game and saw one play with "Park" at QB. My first thought was that it was indeed Jacob Park and I came here to post about it. Quick look online shows him and another QB have been splitting reps. Anyone who has been watching the game know the QB situation in Ames?
c'mon iowa state!
I would love to see Iowa State pull an upset here. The mention of Jaquan Bailey still hurts though...
Iowa is a great place to raise a family
Iowa State looking good so far.Edit: never mind...
..wide open
Colorado in trouble? 4 TOS in the first half.
Anyone know why the Iowa State defensive line is playing a yard and a half off the ball?
Saw Jaquan Bailey make a big play, good for him.
Pulling for GT hurts my heart, but I do hate UNCheat so it doesn't hurt too bad.
and really helps our chances of getting to the ACCCG
IF.. we keep winning
Gus is acting a fool about that ejection. I thought it was a good call.
Pulling for anyone in a GT-UNC game feels wrong, but a GT win helps us. GT always a scary game, pretty worried about that one, but who am I kidding, the last few years have made me nervous about almost every game.
A&M down 14-0 to miss st. Prove that overrated rank
A&M will likely come back and win this game, but I think jumping all over A&M for this is stupid if we are choosing to completely ignore that Clemson should have lost to a comparably awful NC State team at home. But most people here don't have an issue with Clemson at #2 because #goACC.

In both Clemson and aTm's defense, they didn't rank themselves.
So we should bash the CFP committee instead if it comes to it.
I'll give as much shit to Clemson as well . If this was Clemson I'd be saying the same thing . Only thing is clemson has played a tougher schedule
I agree, I was just saying in general, but now it is definitely looking like A&M might lose. Knight trying to play injured and their offense looks off. Plus State is having their way with their defense right now.
Personally I don't care about the rankings, they play themselves out.
The saying in Starkville is "State will always let you down"
Ole Miss down 14-3 to Georgia Southern. That would be a quality Sun Belt loss.
This is totally embarrassing, but Georgia Southern actually runs a fun to watch offense, if you haven't gotten a chance to watch them recently. They moved from the traditional triple option to a spread version. Very fun to watch them in their bowl game last year.
This years offense has not been fun to watch in the least bit. New coaching staff took the nations leading rushing offense last year and reduced them to nothing. This is the first game where they actually resemble their old selves kinda.
Wow. GT defense is getting manhandled. They are not good at footballing
Another game where our offense might need to step up and take advantage of their poor defense.
Poor Addazio, dude.
Run out of bounds after three yards on 3rd and 22? YOU CAN DO THAT!!!
The more I see UNC giving up huge chunks of yardage, the more I begin to believe this game might end up being a track meet.
There are middle school teams that tackle better than UNC.
My wife teaches middle school and we went and saw their football team play on Thursday. Your statement is accurate.
GO AIR FORCE
GO NAVY!
I'll second that, my pops is retired Navy
I'll see your pops and raise you 2 WW2 veteran grandfathers. GO NAVY!
And even though I am former Navy as well, I bleed Chicago Maroon. GO HOKIES!
Navy beats Notre Dame!
Navy's coach has beaten ND 3 times now
Nice ninja edit there, Doc!
My Google Fu was lacking badly. Still an impressive win and Brian Kelly has got to be feeling the heat.
So, what's the temperature of Brian Kelly's seat now? Will he make it to our game?
Scorching as badly as a Pat Narduzzi postgame hot take regarding VT receivers.
There is a possibility that we could be the one that ends ND bowl hopes and that would be a great great feeling.
Miss. St is not a good team this year, and if they hold against aTm that would be a big upset
Hail State!
How are games looking ahead of us that might bump the Hokies game off ESPNU? I'm at picnic for wife's work at won't get out of here till 320
Ole Miss looks like they'll put away Georgia Southern on schedule. 3:50 left with the ball ahead by 10.
Must be hard to keep BC out of the endzone.
/s
Playoff committee...meet the real TAMU
That kid from Vandy just made the best special teams play all year
And that receiver just made that tip drill look routine.
And QB throws a killer pick
So is this the year that the Notre Dame annual overhype train officially ends? It's more likely than not they fail to go bowling.
They'll still get votes in next year's preseason AP poll...
Votes, I expect them to be ranked 22
Wake Forest just looks awful.
Wasn't Michigan State preseason top 15? Not even going to make standard bowl game (might get in with 5 win)
Michigan St vs Rutgers next week in the Somebody Has To Win Bowl.
Seems that our activites on the lesewer poll was more prognostication than trolling
Looks like Clemson is giving Syracuse the shaft today.
They probably would have won anyway, but Dungey got a concussion early and didn't play the vast majority of the game.
That's a huge factor in Syracuse play.
Then I'll assume that a D player was ejected.
Against Clemson? Not likely, ACC gotta protect their prized racehorse.
Exactly, and if you don't buy this, I haven't checked the updated rankings after this week, but going into this past week, Clemson led the nation in penalties assessed against its opponents. If you are thinking "this just happens for all top teams" Alabama was 126th.
Just checked, they are still #1
Maryland getting demolished by Michigan today.
How is their recruiting doing so well?
A lot of big upsets today. Also number 17 goes down again.
Kentucky is going to be atop the SEC East.
It's March madness! Wait...it's only November? I'm confused
Two great games tonight starting now. I think tOSU will handle Nebraska while LSU could keep it close.
NC State has some of that Carter-Finley magic going on against FSU tonight.
Washington better not sleep on USC or Washington State
Would love to see USC win the South and beat UW, for a 2nd time in the P12 CG, to provide mac chaos to playoffs.
Very scary seen at the shoe. Nebraska QB suffered what seemed like a serious concussion/neck injury. Had to cut jersey and equipment of and strapped onto the board. Gave a thumbs up while being loaded into the ambulance!

They will OSU medical center is just about a block away.
Just curious: With an injury such as that, why did they only cut the jersey till right below the heart?
My guess is they didn't want to expose him but so much in field, they cut enough to get pads off.
Game of the Century of the Week is really heating up now. Still 0-0 after a goal line stand by LSU.
Sounds like one of those games everyone says is really great because they are afraid to say such an overhyped game is boring.
I mean, it's impressive to see the tough interior runs and tackles in space, but I can understand why it doesn't exactly hold most folks' attention.
Meanwhile, every time I look at the scoreboard, I think of this:
If this game goes to 6-3 2OT I guarantee they won't call it the worst game of the 21st century.
LSU has been putting up some offense the last several weeks, and 'Bama really hasn't not put up points. Very interesting dynamic.
I can't believe Uva lost to Wake Forest. The experts on leSabre were so sure that they were going to win out the rest of the season. Baffling.
Some of those guys really do want London back and I have no idea why. They are so clueless.
Well, we didn't really want London to leave.
Hey, at least the proved the polls wrong. They only lost by 7!
Wake Forest is bowling.
...What?
From the ACC reffing department; an FSU player just got ejected for targeting for hitting a sliding QB in the head with his chest.
But that one was for hitting a defenseless player in the head or neck area. By sliding he was defenseless and he was hit in the area. Still weak though!
I get that. It's just as weak as when players get called for roughing the passer for hitting the QB in the head with their forearm.
Le Sabre never disappoints http://chat.virginia.sportswar.com/mid/8151681/board/football/
And they call us obsessed.
I also like how they call us VPI like that's supposed to be demeaning.
Seriously, it's part of our fight song.
RAY RAH VPI, bitches
How dare we have a formal name with initials! Maybe we should start calling GT the Georgia Institute of Technology. I'm sure they will be deeply offended.
Guess I should have saved that for the hatin' on thread.
I have said the same thing about beating LOLUVa...of course each time I said that I still had a bowl to look forward to after.
So glad I don't root for a team where a 3 win season would ever be considered a success.
Watching games with my friend and he said this Ala vs LSU game was shaping up to be a VT at WF classic.
I told him I had know idea what he was talking about.
I like how CBS waited for UGA @ Kentucky to go final before announcing next week's game.
Alabama defense is relentless. In the age of spreads, a good QB with time could take advantage, but they are great at stopping the run.
