Christian Darrisaw Commits to the Hokies

Virginia Tech added a commitment from 2017 OL Christian Darrisaw. The Hokies offered Darrisaw on Friday, and after an unofficial visit on Saturday he announced his pledge to the Hokies on Tuesday night. The 6-5, 290 pound Riverdale Baptist (Upper Marlboro, MD) product is unranked by Rivals and 247Sports, and according to those services had offers from Morgan State, North Carolina Central, and Central Connecticut State.

The man does love his pancakes.

No, I *don't* want to go to the SEC. Why do you ask?

We don't love dem Hoos.

Gotta love OL commits!

If only all recruits committed this quickly after we offered. Happy for an OL recruit. I don't mind the rating either. OL is notoriously difficult to rate in high school

We're his only FBS offer. It's not hard when that's the case

Would love to hear French's thoughts. Feet looked like they kept moving but it seemed like his pad level was a little high. I can't tell if it's because he is a man among boys though because he seemed to be almost twice as big as a lot of those ends and line backers. Kid obviously possess a lot of strength. I'm excited!

Agree with STH^^, he definitely had a major size advantage over a lot of his competition although he stayed active when a couple ends on the tape tried to rush around him. The few spins/rip attempts I saw were contained through active hands not letting the defenders into his chest.

Solid player that should enjoy all that West End and the Training Facility have to offer.

A decade on TKP and it's been time well spent.

Hell yeah. The more OL recruits we get, the happier I am.

I found TKP after two rails from TOTS then walking back to my apartment and re-watching the 2012 Sugar Bowl. I woke up the next day with this username.

YES!!!!!!!

Even when you get skunked; fishing never lets you down. 🎣

Offer lists are much more accurate than star rankings in predicting success, IMO.. and his list concerns me a bit obviously. How many kids consistently bust with offers from Bama, OSU, USC, and FSU? or several other P5 schools? not many. But he plays OL in HS and we are actually signing OL EVERY year now, so that is an improvement in and of itself. Get him with Hilgart for a couple years and see where we are. Hopefully Vice will be sticking around for a while to build some consistency in coaching too.

I share that concern, but everyone says OL are the hardest to correctly judge out of high school so that helps a little. He certainly has a frame that can put on some weight so as long as we don't have a 5'8" QB that will have to use a stool just to throw over him, I see him being an asset and a force to be reckoned with.

Warning: this post occasionally contains strong language (which may be unsuitable for children), unusual humor (which may be unsuitable for adults), and advanced mathematics (which may be unsuitable for liberal-arts majors)..

He must have some interesting, good qualities for us to offer him.
Kind of interesting we were the first big program to offer him.

edit: Those highlights are something.

The next Silas N'Danzi? If so, I'll take it!

Yeeeeaaaaaah

I saw that offer list, and.... Hey, lets just hope we're early to the party on seeing his potential.

He'll need to drop weight to fit in with Vice's plan.

Is it a little strange that none of the coaches tweeted anything about his commitment? Could be nothing but I feel like usually the coaches will tweet "Got better today" "Statement17" or something like that. Not even Vice.

It makes me wonder if this is a greyshirt offer or something similar.

I found TKP after two rails from TOTS then walking back to my apartment and re-watching the 2012 Sugar Bowl. I woke up the next day with this username.

Considering his offer list, this seems very plausible.

A decade on TKP and it's been time well spent.

That makes a lot of sense. VT has the leverage to do so since greyshirting will still be the most attractive option for him.

I don't know how much this may have played into his recruiting but his coach said that some academic questions may have quieted his recruitment for a while...

"To be honest, a lot of schools didn't know he was going to qualify," Riverdale Baptist coach Caesar Nettles said. "When he got his SAT score a lot of people started coming in."

Per 247

Using /s is for cowards.

If you're good enough schools offer regardless and will try to place you at prep or even JUCO. No one thought tim settle was going to qualify coming into his senior year.

And a bunch of schools backed off of Settle...

Yup we were fortunate and having offered him early and sticking with him appeared to have made the difference.

Happy to see new recruits for the OL, too often we gloss over them for the skill athletes.

Not so happy with the teaching Vice has done so far.

Hmmm, do I want to play college football in the MEAC or ACC.... Decisions, decisions....

I get a little excited when we offer somebody that isn't an obvious big time recruit. Makes me think they see something special or has a unique talent that fits the system.

The difference in commit reactions between TKP and 247 posters is hilarious. 247 thinks the damn sky is falling.

As long as the guy is bigger than Willenbrock, he has a shot IMO.

-Stick it in

Watch them all quickly change their tune now that he is ranked as a mid level 3 star.

the day after every unranked kid commits to VT he becomes a mid level 3 star on 247. it's like clock work.

yup

recruiting economics 101 and why the industry ratings of all but the best of the best are worth little

247 thinks the damn sky is falling.

It's not like getting one OL recruit precludes us from getting another.

You clearly have never been to 247. The sky falls multiple times a year for them

Sounds like a ton of fun.

The best part of being a football fan is heralding the imminent demise of my program and treating it as a slight against me personally.

I disagree with a lot of the people on 247, but sometimes they can be right. Good to have a mixture between optimists and pessimists as a Hokie

-Stick it in

The 247 board personifies the adage "seldom accurate, never in doubt".

So, how is a guy with his measurables unranked by the scouting services and unnoticed by other D1 schools? Is this an Augie Conte-type situation, where he went to a really small school and never got tested by top-notch competition? I have to admit, I'm from southern MD and have never heard of his high school.

It's still really easy for kids from small schools to fly under the radar if they don't go to any camps. I'm guessing that's the case here.

Riverdale Baptist is more known for their basketball teams than football I think. Not in the Post Top 20 for Football this year but they are a Maryland Private School too., which means they probably play Good Counsel, Gonzaga, Dematha and other private school powers.

which means they probably play Good Counsel, Gonzaga, Dematha and other private school powers

Not necessarily. Those guys are all in the WCAC, which, so far as I'm aware, is all Catholic schools. Being a Baptist school, they're probably not playing all those guys that regularly. I don't know if there's another private school conference they're in or if they're in a conference with other local public schools.

this is correct, riverdale baptist is not in the wcac, but would play one or two games against schools from that conference. i think they may be in the same conference as other maryland area private schools, or possibly independent. what i recall from my time in high school, they just weren't known for football as much as other sports

I know their basketball teams used to just crush everyone and they would go wire to wire at No. 1 in the Post poll.

Looks as though they are located somewhere near Annapolis. Play teams from Baltimore, Virginia, and Maryland.

I am hoping this is a under the radar kinda guy because if he isn't these are the kind of recruits that don't elevate you to the next level and keep you the status quo

Bleeding burnt orange and chicago maroon

If it makes you feel any better, there were some academic concerns until recently, and he is now a 3 star on 247.

in these kind of cases, I love to be proven wrong.... lets just see if other offers come pouring in or not

247 has a breakdown of him up. Basically saying that he has size and athleticism but will need coaching.
