1. Have a physically ready lineman recruited that just doesn't know technique
or
2. A tweener that knows technique but definitely needs to bulk up more.
If you have one OL spot left and you had to choose, which one would you go for?

3. a nasty kid that would pancake his own mother getting to the second level and not think twice about it. THAT is what you can't teach..Give me an OL of Teller, Grove, Andrew Miller, Render, Todd Washington ALL Day... no they can't pass block at all- but who care's?? They are TOUGH and Nasty.. and THAT is what is missing.
I forgot about Andrew Miller. That stache!
I've known him my whole life and played football in middle and high school with him. I can confirm he'd punch a baby twice if that was the only way to get to the 2nd level.
Speaking of Todd Washington. I met his brother T.J. Washington (VT OL in mid 90s) at a child's birthday party two weeks ago. It was awesome hearing his take on Coach Beamer, Beamer Ball, college football, the NFL, etc.
Does the tweener have the body type to bulk up without losing quickness and footwork? Does the tweener have the heart and tenacity to be more than just a "good technique" lineman. This second question could be asked about the physically ready lineman as well. Sorry, I guess I am changing the original parameters specified above. Given the original question, I might go with the guy who is physically ready and assume that the coaches can get him where he needs to be.
Give me the kid who knows technique all day long. If the kid has skill, you can bulk him up and turn him into a monster in college. Even undersized, a kid with skill can still get the job done by knowing how to use the defender's weight to his own advantage, and once he puts on bulk, he'll be a beast.
Size plus a lack of technique at the OL positions is how a team with the likes of Cam Newton, Kelvin Benjamin, Greg Olsen and Jonathan Stewart are 3-6 on the season.
Counterpoint: You can't coach size and athleticism.
But you can put that undersized kid in as H-back or Fullback and have one HELL of a lead blocker.
Good feet and willing to get low.
Whatever French says, that's what I think too.
Run the sang ball
I'd rather have an undersized quality lineman than a big body who doesn't know what to do with it
That's what she said!
Don't know tons about technique but I'd take the more physically
mature guy because I feel like technique can be learned.
Depends how good your OL coach is.
Nasty and mean SOB!!!!!
I read the title as "OT Question: Would you rather..." and I got very excited.
Would you rather have a head the size of a tennis ball or the size of a watermelon?
I'm choosing watermelon. Gotta be smart as shit with a brain filling a noggin that size.
Give me the size. Size isn't something that can just be taught. Technique can be crafted
