Austin Nichols dismissed from UVa

Redshirt junior forward Austin Nichols (Collierville, Tenn.) has been dismissed from the Virginia men's basketball program, head coach Tony Bennett announced Friday (Nov. 18).

Nichols was previously suspended for the Cavaliers' two preseason scrimmages and the season opener at UNCG on Nov. 11.

"It's a privilege to be a part of this program and Austin has lost that privilege," Bennett said. "We have standards for our student-athletes and when those standards aren't met, there are consequences and this is the unfortunate consequence."

Nichols played one game at UVA, tallying 11 points and three rebounds against St. Francis Brooklyn on Nov. 15. He sat out the 2015-16 season after transferring from Memphis.

Holy shit

Played more games than UVA had fans at their Spring Game.

Always choose joy.

So Austin Nichols told them Zima is garbage, the student body had to retreat to a safe space to recover from hearing such slander, and now he's off the team for causing a ruckus.

Apparently those in Charlottesville didn't like his version of Memphis BBQ he brought to the table...

Well, that's the problem right there. Even in Charlottesville they know that there's only one true BBQ worth bringing to the table, and that, of course, is....ahhh, why start even more of a ruckus. You all KNOW which is the best. Right?

Reel men fish on Wednesdays

Not the bagman VT deserves, but the bagman VT needs right now.

Damn right! I'll take Memphis style any day of the week!!

.

So while UVa is busy stroking themselves over the awesome display of putting integrity over wins, where was that integrity when they fell over themselves getting him to the program earlier this year? 2 games in, they had to know he was an issue before now...

Oh, right, needed him associated with the program long enough to secure some good recruits.

I can't stand that Zima loving school who shall not be named but got to give credit to Bennett for holding the line on accountability.

Who?

Player Bio

Talent wise, was probably going to be their best player. This is a big blow for them.

Was sarcasm. Thanks though

Ah, I was thinking it could be but considering he sat out last season thought it might be a real question too. Haha

Oh well, I'm sure someone on here doesn't know who this guy is.

Good lookin out either way fam

Lot of sad rumors going around about why he got kicked off. He's a huge talent, hope for his sake he gets it together.

Go onnnn

Not sure how comfortable I feel posting things that I've only heard 3rd hand/seen elsewhere online.

In general, please do not propagate unsubstantiated (and potentially damaging) rumors.

"Exit light..."

Yeah thats the general rule I was trying to follow. Hope that was acceptable, can certainly take that down if not.

Must have recited a Jefferson quote

@VTimHokie85

UVa losing a big man is certainly a good start to the day. Hope the kid gets it together though.

He'll probably transfer to Georgia and set some NCAA record.

No, I *don't* want to go to the SEC. Why do you ask?

We don't love dem Hoos.

Never want to see a young kid throw his life away early on. Hopefully he can get whatever help he needs to get back on the right track.

Fire Whit.

Someone needs to get back on the right track, you say?
