Let the Logan to TE jokes commence.
#Lions signed a practice squad TE named Logan Thomas... who is actually the same person who formerly played QB for the Cardinals, Giants, MIA...β Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) November 28, 2016

I created this meme a few years ago....glad to see people are still using it ...and it finally came true. Tight end jokes....no longer a joke. Feels good to see my fellow Hokies still using this meme, years later.
You, sir....are a visionary
I think everyone knows this is where the money is for him. I hope it works out!
Well, I mean he does have experience playing it, I heard he was a tight end in high school
He didn't play it in HS either.
Ahh, the irony...
His first playing time for VT was catching a jump ball from Tyrod for a TD.
And that might happen again since this Bills signed him from Detroit's practice squad to their 53 man roster.
Does that mean Ebron to QB too?
plot twist they plan on converting him to qb
He might end up doing better than Eric Ebron has.
Maybe it took Braxton Miller's success at a position change for him to consider it?
Terrelle Pryor is a WR now, I hear. Hear he's pretty good at it, too. Bucky moved to TE. Sounds like a good move for him
He's been good on my fantasy team, reliable at worst.
Tyrelle Pryor I can see (although he is more athletic than LT), but Bucky Hodges? That's your next best example?
Dunno, is there a better one? He's the second one I thought of that moved from QB.
I think Tebow could have been a better TE than QB, maybe Jamarcus Russell, too.
Antwaan Randle El was a QB at Indiana, right? He moved to receiver.
Weren't Anthony Gonzales and Jimmy Graham former basketball players? Not exactly the same deal, but big, athletic, hard-working team-players are like a magnet to the TE position.
Blake Bell, the Belldozer himself from Oklahoma, plays TE for the 49ers.
Not a ton of success on this list, but plenty of paychecks earned. I think LT3 could work out well here.
Didn't Hines Ward play a little QB in college? I seem to remember the announcers bringing that up whenever he'd throw a pass on a trick play.
According to recent search results, it appears that you are technically correct! The best kind of correct!
So basically a short-list...much more than likely than not unfortunately to remain the same length.
I read this like five times and I still don't get it. Was some of that supposed to be parenthetical?
For what it's worth, all of those are pretty recent except Randle El. Maybe this is an accelerating trend.
Probably more likely than LT3 making noise as a QB in the NFL, if we're being honest.
Probably not more likely if we're being honest.
Okay well he's a TE2 now and it's been a very long time since he's sniffed the field as a QB, so snark away.
Braxton Miller's success? He hasn't done much more in the NFL at WR than LT at QB.
He caught a touchdown last week. You act like he's been in the NFL for years. Give him some time...
That is NOT how the NFL works.
If you want examples, just think of all the former Hokies that got jibbed (Boykin, Coale, Malleck, Rouse, the list could go on). Those players needed time and NEVER got it.
Are you trying to convince me that it is difficult to be successful in the National Football League
Of course not. I'm just saying that unless you're in the 1st or 2nd round, time is not on the players' side.
And even these guys are getting a shorter leash these days.
Gonna pick nits here a bit, but I'd say Boykin had a fair shot. He had a perfect situation in GB, especially the year both Nelson and Cobb missed most of the year, yet he never solidified his spot beyond being a somewhat average WR4. He then had opportunities with teams that could use some solid WR play (Carolina and Buffalo) and was cut by both. He had chances, probably more than most, and it didn't work out. I'm not hating on Boykin, just pointing out how its really really freaking hard to be an NFL player. Every year when I go over the rosters looking what Hokies are where, its amazing to see how many great college players are on the cut list.
I still feel a little bad for Danny Coale though. Just rotten luck for him. Messed his leg up in camp with both Dallas and Pitt. For a late round pick, the NFL isn't going to wait around. I always think he if had a healthy camp, he could have made a roster (like in the role Cole Beasley is for Dallas right now)
That's my point. I'd argue that applies even to 3rd rounders (in the case of Miller).
Ryan Williams and David Wilson also got the unlucky injury bug. Ryan Williams earned the #1 job TWICE, once after a serious season ending injury, just could never get back to full strength and consistently healthy. David Wilson's was a wise decision for his future. No need to test a neck/spine injury.
I excluded them because they were 1st/2nd rounders.
If you want to pick nits at least present all the facts. Boykin in 2013 caught 49 balls for 681 yards and three TDs. He finished behind a potential hall of fame receiver in Jordy Nelson and James Jones who has almost 500 career receptions for over 6000 yards. All of that with Aaron Rodgers missing half the season and not becoming a top four receiver until Cobb got hurt six games into the season. Then in 2014 with Cobb back fully healthy, Boykin was battling for the fourth spot behind Nelson, Cobb and Jones, when he had a groin tear in week 4, outright missing three games. He didn't return to full speed until week 9 and then got a concussion in week 10. At this point he was essentially relegated to special teams. The groin injury lingered and what ability he had to separate was hampered even into the following season. It's not as if he had top speed to start with being known more as a possession receiver with giant hands
And LT threw a TD pass once.
If you're a healthy QB, you either play virtually every snap or you carry a clip board. If you're a WR, you're going to get some snaps and you're going to catch some passes. But the NFL isn't much on development these days - the median experience level on NFL rosters is about 3 yrs IIRC. 1+ catch per game and 1 TD a season doesn't scream long career.
Would it kill you to ever say something positive on here? For example, "Good for Logan, I hope he has success in his new position with Detroit."
Did you ever lecture all of the folks who said from day 1 he was wasting his time at QB and now seem to be relishing in "I told you so"? I doubt it.
LT is a great kid and great Hokie. Wish him nothing but the best.
So it looks like he's the 6th TE currently under contract with the Lions.
Somewhere Curt Newsome is salivating to turn that bunch into an entire offensive line.
Who?
The lions do love their TE's....see Ebron and Pettigrew in first round for proof
Son of .....put in freaking Leal right now
Man, they must really like Stafford as a slot receiver
This bodes well for Bucky! /s
I hope he impresses the staff there in a hurry, I think this has to be the last year he is eligible for the practice squad.
I don't think anyone can doubt he has the physical skill for the position. The real question I have is whether he can pick up the nuances of the position enough to prove he deserves more than just a role as a practice squad member. I certainly hope so.
Will LT fall down right after he catches the ball in stride?
Oh no, I said it!
Nope.
If I didn't see it with my own eyes I'd swear Myles Jack was still airborne.
FUCK ZUMWALT. THAT DIRTY BITCH
This! This community let Zumwalt off way too easy. On top of a dirty player he's a giant douche. IIRC his career ended pretty quickly in Pittsburgh due to injury. Deserved it.
I can watch this clip for hours. LT3 at his best!
Lol I've been saying since he graduated that he has a better shot at TE than qb in the NFL. Glad to hear that he's finally making the transition! He should've done it right out the gate though. Best of luck to him and hope to see him truck some more players on Sundays.
Im sure the success of Tyrell Pryor had a lot to do with the decision by teams and Logan
With Bucky possibly leaving, maybe we can try this with Lawson. Have a feeling he might be looking to transfer due to lack of playing time
Change of story. On an active roster now instead of practice squad
Tyrod to Logan.
THIS MEANS TYROD TO LOGAN COULD BE A THING
It's been a thing before. 2010 Wake Forest, Logan one hander in the EZ.

...I watched for like 30 seconds and saw so much talent on our roster it made me sick.
Taylor to Logan, getting props on the sidelines from Wilson and Davis.
God good, can you imagine what we could've really done with a true OC back then?
Im not necessarily disagreeing with you, but we have some serious talent on this team now. Do I think Evans will start at QB in the NFL? Im not sure, the odds are against him and Tyrod has proven himself, so I wouldn't trade Tyrod for anybody, but Evans is playing well at QB for us. What this team is missing is a David Wilson, he was the exceptional playmaker we don't have. Ford, Phillips, Hodges are as good or better than any 3 receivers we have ever had. We had the talent on offense to matchup with Clemson. If anything was a problem it was the Oline. Sam Rogers is a hell of a player too, think of the big plays in big games he has made. He scores last night on that trick play if he didn't struggle catching it for a moment.
I agree, I wish we had a better scheme and staff with Tyrod's teams, but they weren't necessarily better than this team. Part of me wants to think Tyrod would have been an All American with this staff, but I want to give Evans credit. What he did this year was not easy and couldn't have been done by QBs in the country.
Damn city-slickers.
please god let this be real
My Madden team is becoming a reality...except I need to change LT over to TE, instead of backing up Tyrod
this must be staged. I thought we weren't able to score a TD against wake. DUCKS
i love this
this has me irrationally excited. I might even watch an NFL game...
"I caught one touchdown from him; why not catch some more?" Thomas said.
click it!
I've said it before in response to this GIF, and I'll say it again....
Kyle Fuller is priceless in this video.
I concur on his exceptionality in this particular case, but please don't forget that Fullers are always priceless.
If the Packers fall off the face of the planet, the Bills are immediately my new team
according to the Packers record you are now a Bills fan.
5-6 is off a cliff?
WTG Logan!!! and Go Bills!!!!
Has this been edited? Confused about what's downvote-able about this. +1 because I am not offended
Bump so people see this. Just had to delete the THIRD duplicate LT thread in as many days. Help your moderator out and:
1. Use the tracker (not just the front page of the site/Active Discussions)
2. Don't try to post news unless you've completed #1
.........so....if there were another LT thread to pop up soon.......would that TKPer be in trouble? Asking for a friend
But are there any mentions of how tall he is?
It'll be cool to see how he does after everyone saying he should've been
a TE all along. Seems like he has a better chance at success than QB.
Charles Clay didn't travel with the Bills to Oakland making Logan Thomas the TE2 behind Nick O'Leary this week
Pretty insane that he's been a TE less than a week and is going to be on an active roster
ESPN Fantasy has him assigned to Buffalo, but as a QB.
... INCEPTION.
Thought rex said he was not active this week.
He wasn't
I think I remember reading that if you pluck someone off another teams practice squad you have to keep them on your 53-man roster for at least 2 weeks. I don't think this is an indication that he has been impressive in practice as a tight end, OR IS IT?
You are correct that if you sign someone off a practice squad, you must put them on the 53 man roster. However I believe (but I might be wrong here) the only time constraint is that the player must receive three 53 man roster pay checks - however they do not actually have to be on the 53 man roster for 3 weeks; they can be released at any time after being signed to the 53 man roster from another practice squad.
But if the new team then wants to move the player from the 53 man roster to the practice squad, the player must first clear waivers after being released.
Practice squads and the last couple of 53 man roster positions are mostly a numbers game involving injuries and practice squad rules. Players can get signed, released and even re-signed in a short period of time depending upon injuries to particular positions.
I wouldn't necessarily draw any firm conclusions about how a player is doing - good or bad - about being at the bottom of the 53 man roster or the practice squad other than you're hanging on by a thread at all times over something you can't really control.
