Just saw that Mark Helfrich is out at Oregon. Wouldn't common sense dictate that they would go after a defensive guy? Would they rather go with someone w/ HC experience and/or better recruiting chops than Foster?
On a scale from one to spaghetti, I'm only a ramen noodle in terms of being worried about Foster leaving but it's something to think about.

I would be shocked if they go after a defensive guy. Oregon has been so offensively oriented that it would be such a drastic shift for them to go after someone like Foster.
Plus, Foster has seen what he can do with Fuente. I think that he's here to stay. That's just my $.02 though.
My thought process would be for them to retain some of their offensive guys and foster essentially becomes the defensive version of Fuente for Oregon...wiles would become the DC and they would find a top notch secondary coach(es)
I think the logic is there, but I think Oregon has so much money, they're not going to think with logic to make the best hire. They're going to think with their bank account and go after the biggest name they think will keep them on the same track as they've been on.
And still, I stand by my point that I really don't think Foster leaves this program or this town. If this is what Tech is capable in the first year, what are we capable of 5 years down the line? I hope he sees the potential.
The only time I've seen Foster serious about leaving Tech was when the Clemson job was open: Link Here...according to Beamer's book, he was offered the Pitt job and turned it down. Oregon is obviously on the same level as Clemson, it wouldn't be out of the question for Foster to be interested.

Also, it is much more difficult to recruit for defensive out west. Offensive football in Texas and California are much more sexy and those two areas have been Oregon's primary recruiting ground.

plus he has no ties to the area at all and it's literally on the other side of the country.
He's stated that with Fuente and Co. coming aboard at Tech it's like a whole new job without having to leave.
I agree and think he retires out of Tech IMO. I think he had the itch to be a HC once before but I believe he is happy where he is and where the program is headed.
I think Bud is here for at least 3-4 more years to see what unfolds with Fuente. Either that or the ideal job for him opens up. The only reason he would leave for Oregon (even assuming they go after him) would be money. No other incentive IMO. Not only that, but I don't see them pursuing Bud. Like Hokie20 said above, it'd be a complete about face for them to go after a defensive minded coach.

I would be astonished if Oregon hired and East Coast guy. I would also be astonished if Bud Foster would go to the West Coast. Recruiting should be a major factor in the Oregon hire, and thus excludes almost all east coast guys with no ties to the West. This includes Fleck, who I think is a great coach, and a good fit for Oregon, but has never ventured out of the midwest.
If Oregon doesn't jump on Fleck they are messin' up.
Might be too early since he's only been at UCF for one season but I heard Scott Frost was highly considered for Nebraska after Pelini and I could see Oregon bringing him back
Words I read from the AD is that they would like someone from the Oregon "Tree" of coaches. I agree with shakeitallabout, Scott Frost is the guy.

This. If you are going to drop $10M a year on a coach it means you are trying to poach an Urban or Saban type (i.e. elite and proven) from their current gigs. It does not mean you are going to take a flyer on a career coordinator.

Unlike Bud, Schiano has head coaching experience that was respectable. And he might need to leave Columbus after hitting a student with his car.

I would be much more concerned about losing Bud to a Big Boy program as DC. Like Notre Dame (although Kelly's tenure looks tenuous at best), LSU or Texas.
{But, still, I really doubt that would happen either. Bud's system doesn't help recruit 5*, NFL bound kids that make those programs survive. Can you imagine the outcry when the D recruits at Texas were all high 3*'s? I really think Bud will give us about 5 more years then hang it up.}

McElwain is the surprise of the group, but he's got a new AD. And he looks miserable at UF.
Mullen has had one foot out of Starkville forever. I think he was angling for PSU before Franklin stabilized.

I may be 100% wrong, but I truly think that Fleck is going to fall flat on his face in the P5. His slogans and putting on pads, etc. might work in the Mac, but I don't think they play as well in the P5. Ultimately he will need a better staff and better players. I am skeptical- just my opinion

Fedora's offense with Oregon's athletes might be a scary combo...
Fedora's defense would be equally scary, but not to opponents.
Fedora's already running his offense with athletes as good or better than Oregon's. And the end result has generally been good, but not great.
Helfrich's problem is getting the athletes to come to Oregon. Helfrich's offense was not the problem (was OC for Chip Kelly), the tools to run his offense were lacking due to a lack of hitting on 3-stars lately. Without a star quarterback like Miota, the offense struggled against above average defenses.
But the main problem for Oregon lately has been the defense, even after hiring Brady Hoke as D-coordinator.
Bud is an east coast guy. Would it be as easy to step in at Oregon and recruit like that? Also, the PAC 12 wants someone like Chris Peterson at UW, Bud's mindset is more aligned with the SEC, ACC, BIG 10. I'd find it hard to think that he would make that leap. Not to say he couldn't be successful, but he does not have extensive contacts in that region to draw on, not that his name and reputation don't precede him.
There is a reason Tom Herman stayed in Texas to coach and didn't leave for a bigger job before UT came calling.
Oregon will go with someone with west coast recruiting ties, regardless of offense or defense. In the flag football defense Pac 12, they better find someone that knows how to score points, though. I don't think a guy like Foster is even on their radar. Scott Frost, Brian Kelly, Brian Harsin, Dana Holgerson (long shot) would seem to be their short list.
