Apparently Rex's son plays for Clemson, so he joked at a press conference that he's benching all former VT players. This was Tyrod's response:

Love me some Tyrod
That's why he's my all-time favorite Hokie player...that and how times he saved his Hokie teams from Stinespring's play calling.
Someone told me once that Tyrod called an audible 70% of the time. No idea where they heard that from, but when I think about it, doesn't really sound all that far fetched.
The other 30% were created on the run (literally)!
That sounds like me on NCAA 14 Road to Glory, except he can actually make it work
The audible was him running for his life but since he was so good he could score.
I'm a little underwhelmed. Maybe it's our trash twitter account hyping things up and being out of touch or something else but he just said Go Hokies. He could've at least mentioned how many ACC Championships he's got compared to the other Clemson players on the roster. Oh well.
Agree completely. That account is, at best, strange. At least to me. That tweet made me expect some fire, but definitely wasn't much. I appreciate the "Go Hokies" from one of my favorite Hokies but "priceless" and "trash talk"? Eh...
It's VT_Football... I'm just impressed Pete had the self restraint to not comment about how much the team has been on fire with emojis this year in response to what happened in Gatlinburg.
Yeah that account is....well......pretty much this

It is succinct. Don't need to really expand on it. Also, you just got your foot in the door as a starting QB in the league with a coach that gave your your shot; I think a simple go hokies says it all. This is not D-Hall or Kam, who would have really brought the clap-back.
Ya and honestly his on field play speaks enough.
Wait... That's it? Just a Go Hokies?
Man that's so edgy, VT_Football... Thanks for bringing it to the attention of the masses!
Yeah, can't really fathom how that would be considered trash talk. If anything he avoided trash talking by simply saying what he did.
Not gonna lie, since out D is still mess and Carr's throwing hand is injured I would not mind if T-mobile was sitting this coming weekend...

Honest question for people who understand the game better than I do. Do you think Junior year Tyrod would out play Evans in this offensive scheme? My assumption is that Tyrod skill set would fit well with in it, but it might be an unfair comparison.
Tyrod wasn't a polished passer until his senior season, and even then I think Evans is more accurate and consistent.
Hard to make a one to one comparison but I would take Junior or Senior year Tyrod over Evans. He was better at making progressions and reads, had been studying a more pro-style/multiple offense for a few years. The same passing tendencies that have contributed to our offensive consistency and Jerod's accuracy numbers have been simultaneously limiting us in 3rd and long situations far more than we ever were with Tyrod.
Our jet sweeps would be more like Read Options, and we'd destroy teams using it. Tyrod could also put a deep pass on a dime, so we would likely see a bit more success downfield through the air. I hope to soon see how a super high talent can do with this offense with a couple years of learning under their belt. Not saying I'm wishing Evans gone, because he's perfect for us in the right here and now, but the Jackson years coming after could be special.
Agree with everything except the deep balls. I always thought Tyrod would underthrow his receivers, as there were many times that should have been TDs that instead ended up as goal-to-go situations.
Yes I realize someone will counter this with the Nebraska pass, that one was a dime.
And his NFL success. Less so this year because lack of weapons, but he was statistically elite last year with the deep ball. I think he had the most deep ball completions (or close) and had one of if not the best passer ratings, completion percentage, and YPA on deep balls last season when he had healthy receivers (particularly Sammy Watkins)
Everyone misses deep balls, but he is an elite deep thrower.
Oh I think he has progressed enormously since his days at VT, but for most of his college career he wasn't an elite deep thrower.
I don't have the numbers readily available on this, but I'll just agree to disagree, I think he was a much more consistent deep ball passer than Evans as been in college.
Found some draft scouting reports praising his deep ball, but a google search yielded about a million results on his deep ball passing in the NFL and it was hard to find the older material.
I don't know. He was pretty good with this one.
what is this? a GIF for ants!?
That was like.... 3 replies ago... how are we expected to follow such things on a board where the same argument is being had for the eleventieth time over on the "Hokies #23 in CFP Rankings" page.
My bad for making people scroll up 3 comments
I think you can't go wrong either way. Tyrod was just such an exciting player to watch, you never knew when he was going to take that roll out, put his foot in the ground, and just make people miss.
But Evans has such great touch on his fades and deep balls to his WRs. 3 step dropping mortar rounds downfield all season while also putting the entire running game on his back.
Yes. Tyrod, despite the thoughts, was a more polished passer. I'm not sure what his passing % was when he was here, but he wasn't working in a "one-read" system like Evans is.
Tyrod could throw the deep ball, Tyrod was much more elusive, and Tyrod is Tyrod. C'mon man!
I love Evans and I'm glad he is our guy, but I think Tyrod would have thrived in this system.
#BEATCLAMSON!
I saw that... I'm surprised we haven't been mocked for that. I love all of the updates the account gives, but the commentary needs to take a step back.
I don't want this to dissolve into another thread about how atrocious the VT Football Twitter account is but:
This tweet is still up:
Not to mention this:
I mean, I hope Logan does find a way to revive his career but who the hell thought *that* GIF was tweet worthy?
Its just incredibly frustrating that it seems like there's a total lack of quality control in addition to over-tweeting.
*bangs face on desk* IT TAKES FIVE SECONDS TO REREAD A TWEET AND MAKE SURE YOU HAVE THINGS SPELLED CORRECTLY
Not to mention that it's been ~30 hours since they tweeted it.
Spelling mistakes happen, I do it all the time when I'm typing quickly (ex: gchat) but I have to send important internal and external emails on a regular basis and I can tell you that I (like most people) double check/use spell check and rarely have glaring errors. It is literally someone's job to send out those tweets and they're doing stupid crap like that.
too busy finding the right emoji to use.
Woah woah woah... you cannot criticize VT_Football twitter on here. It will not end well for you
I've been in the threads before. VT Football is a poorly run account. I will not back down from that.
Hey @VT_Football GR8 B8 M8 I RATE IT 8/8.
For real that wasn't priceless or even really "trash talk". Good, classy comment from 5uperman but cmon VT_Football...
The person who writes those tweets is a twit.
