In case you have not checked the Catamounts lost to Middle Tennessee State 45-24. Frank needs to keep the gas pedal down and let the O hang about 40 in the first half to get some momentum and rhythm going.

Agreed. I want to see an App State style beatdown, just to send a message to the rest of the college football world.
Yep also want us to pitch a shutout.
Yeah, hasn't Tech only had like two home shutouts since like 2005 or something? That needs to change.
Going back to 03-04 I counted 12 shutouts with I think all but 2 of those at home and 2 of the 12 we gave to LOLUVA!
I don't care about shutouts (besides uva). 2.5-3 quarters of dominance in all 3 parts of the game from the starters is what I want to see.
They're definitely harder to get especially when you get a lead and are trying to play the entire roster. Agree we need solid effort in all phases.
Yup and I want to see the freshman/second string receivers starting
I think it's Time to Return to Mascot Mock!
I want a #MARKLEAL2NDHALF
Hell yeah.
We should also play Carlis Parker with Leal....start building chemistry now
Last year we sleep walked (is that right?) through Peay (go peay was my favorite part of that game week). If that's Appalachian State, ODU, or some other FCS powerhouse you might not win the game. We all shook it off as no big deal, a vanilla game plan, resting startes etc. This year I believe Frank needs to let them loose. If we can put up 50+ then offense will have some confidence. ECU can tend to play us tough and I'd rather not have a close game against them. Put the pedal to the metal and get some confidence built so we can go into ECU feeling good (but not too good).
I agree that Frank needs to let loose a little and make the WCU game one in which we get creative, have fun, work fundamentals, and build confidence. I hope we put them far enough away early that we can get some of the young guys and back ups some valuable snaps.
The reason NFL has a preseason is so coaches can evaluate talent, test some new play designs etc. But a big plus of preseason is getting the team used to game planning each week and going out to play each opponent hard. It bugs me when I see such vanilla offenses being played and Virginia Tech being put under a lot of pressure (Arkansas St 2011 comes to mind here). Every week is an opportunity to teach the players, to game plan and to play hard regardless of opponent.
The first team offense should play four quarters regardless of score in order to get better. It doesn't matter if the final score is 75 to 0 or 10 to 9.5.
I can agree with leaving 1st team receivers in most of the game and keeping Logan in a little longer (which would necesitate leaving most of the starting OL in as well), but I don't want to see Edmunds in at all in the second half. The main reasons are keeping him healthy and getting Caleb in game reps at tailback. Similar sentiments for first team D line, inside backers, and the experienced DBs. The only 1st team defense players that I'd want to see a lot of in the second half would be Tremble, Ke. Fuller, & Facyson.
Do we even have 2nd team WRs? Based on what I saw Sat night I'd believe we don't (because you think we would've put them in to CATCH THE DAMN BALL!!!).
I miss the days where we'd take a team out to the woodshed every now and then. 62-0 vs Syracuse in '99 being my favorite of course. I'd love to see our team get some swagger in their step after this one!
Especially after the soul ripping sadness of McNabb beating in the Carrier dome the year before.
I want that elusive 69-0 that I have been waiting for for oh so long.
That requires a missed extra point or two field goals. I do not want to see either of those. Settling for field goals in this game would be a shame.
I really hope we come out on offense and throw it every down just so the WRs have to catch the ball for us to do something. We all know what Edmunds is capable of now so I could see Joel Caleb getting some reps at wide receiver.
I think they need to take a page from remember the titans during practice: you drop a catchable ball, you run a mile
Those WRs might have ended up just running back to Blacksburg.
"We will be perfect in every aspect of the game. You drop a pass, you run a mile. You miss a blocking assignment, you run a mile. You fumble the football, and i will break my foot off in your John Brown hind parts and then you will run a mile. Perfection...Let's go to work."
Gentlemen, we are going to relentlessly chase perfection, knowing full well we will not catch it, because nothing is perfect. But we are going to relentlessly chase it, because in the process we will catch excellence. I am not remotely interested in just being good.- Vince Lombardi
I cannot upvote a Lombardi quote enough. He was the quintessential football genius.

I really don't think we'll see Caleb back at receiver any time soon. He was coming along too slowly to contribute this year and honestly probably would've done a lot of the more infuriating things (procedure penalties, wrong routes, lining up incorrectly, etc.) that we saw from the starters on Saturday. He's said repeatedly he feels more comfortable at RB, and the coaches have said he looks like a natural runner. Besides, we really need a big, athletic RB in case (God forbid) Edmunds gets hurt.
yea, I really would love to see Caleb get about half the carries to be honest. I'm ECSTATIC that we have yet another stud in Edmunds, but anything we can do to quickly transform Caleb into a competent replacement is time well spent in my mind.
Does anyone know if there will be a live-streaming of this game? I have Centurylink as my provider so ESPN3 is a no-go for me. Radio isn't good enough either, I must be able to watch the game.
EDIT: Sorry to bump this thread to the top, I didn't see the other!
Try this.
Shout out and thanks to phreak.
Use VTPhreak's blog for a feed. It worked great for me down here in Honduras where there is no contract with ESPN. He posted the connection for the bama game and I suspect he will do it for every game this season.
You should just come to the game instead... I hear there are still tickets available! :)
Fact!
I just got back from Atlanta and all my friends I went with have to work this weekend and I live in Bristol or I totally would! That would be the perfect way to spend my Saturday! Actually that is the only way to spend any Saturday.
Fair enough, we'll look for you at the Marshall game!
