Dear ACC QBs, Don't Throw on Greg Stroman

Greg Stroman had an impressive 2016 season at corner for the Hokies.

He's come a long way from accidentally starting against eastern Carolina in 2015...

Proud member of the longtime Stroman hype train.

Love me some Stroman

Wish he would've stayed healthy through the year. I think at least one L would've been turned into a W.

We put the K in Kwality

I'm sure strength coach will muscle him up. I think a lot of our guys are looking stronger. The blocking is certainly better

Hokies, Local Soccer, AFC Ajax, Ravens

the only loss that he didn't play in was the gt game, which im not sure he's going to keep them from running up and down the field on us

Or keeping the offense from sucking.

Experience and not splitting reps at WR seem to have allowed him to take his game to the next level. Dude is awesome. I'm glad we have him back next year. It's great that he's getting ~4 weeks to let that ankle heal even more before the bowl game.

Just please, God, don't let him play pickup basketball.

A decade on TKP and it's been time well spent.

Or ride a jet ski

Luckily, I don't think there will be any beach parties in Charlotte.

Now finish up them taters; I'm gonna go fondle my sweaters.

Lake Norman in a wetsuit?

Reel men fish on Wednesdays

Perhaps the GREATEST bummer of all time. V. Hall, my favorite all-time Hokie - I've just never seen a more natural ball hawk than that guy.

Also the toughest IMO. Didn't he play the entire second half of a game with a broken arm/wrist? As a linebacker!

Clemson game.

Getting a little more physically mature was a significant factor too. Much of his problem was being physically overwhelmed by bigger receivers - it even bit him early in the season vs Tenn.

is he too slight to play in the NFL?

I think he's got the height to play in the NFL for sure, he just needs to gain like 10-20lbs (he's currently listed around 6'0-6'1 and like 175lbs). For comparison, you can look at some past Hokies out of the secondary who are currently starting in the NFL like DeAngelo Hall (5'10, 202 lbs) and Kendall Fuller (5'11, 196 lbs) - each of them are a few inches shorter than Stroman but weigh at least 20 lbs more than he does. If he can stay healthy and bulk up in the offseason, I think he could have a monster year next year that plays into a possible NFL career (at least, based on the drastic improvement we already saw in his play from last year until now).

Height is a defensive style preference more than a marker of coverage ability. However, I think he will want to get to around 185-190 depending on how he carries it.

A lot of nfl teams draft on measurables and won't take someone that doesn't meet them. May not be smart, but it happens. Height at CB is a major deal now (just ask Bud).

Varies from system to system. 8 of the top 15 graded corners in the NFL measured under 5'10 last year or the year before (I can't remember exactly). The KC defensive system values length and height for the last 3-4 years, for example. It's all about trends, but if you can cover, you can cover, that's how it's always been.

I agree though, the recent trend has been overrating/overfocusing on height/length.

Whatever he's listed at, he doesn't look taller than Kendall Fuller to me.

Good coverage skills aside, Stroman definitely needs to bulk up and be more physical if he wants a sniff of the league. As a junior Jayron Hosley was similar size, but was a better cover corner than Stroman and somewhat more physical. And while he did play 4 yrs in the NFL, he was frequently injured and underwhelmed compared to expectations.

is that good?

I have no idea why my username is VT_Warthog.

Arkansas blew a 24-0 lead in the Belk Bowl.

What was the % of plays where he threw UVA QB's into the bench?

Not enough, IMO.

UVa wasn't on the field long enough that game to make a dent in the %

Plus, none of them stayed in the game long enough for people to figure out who the QB was.

Awesome how he's progressed since last season.

I'm so happy that after this season I can wear my #3 Jersey without people questioning my sanity.

WEAR THAT JERSEY PROUDLY MY FRIEND!!

Here lies It's a Stroman Jersey I Swear, surpassed in life by no one because he intercepted it.

Can someone run Stats on the "Dork Magic" factor of wearing the #25 ----> that is, great plays (vs. bad if there were any) that happened to those who donned the "25."

Shouldn't this read, "Dear ACC QBs, Please keep trying to throw on Greg Stroman?"

Never Forget #1 Overall Seed UVA 54, #64 UMBC 74

You could notice a big difference in coverage ability between Stroman and Adonis in the Clemson game. When Stroman finally entered the game, you could see him actually break and attack the passes thrown his way.

Not to be that guy....but he only had 33 come this way. No proof it would be as high if he had 50-odd happen like everyone else. Sure that could be a product of not being thrown to, but he also missed a few games as mentioned.

He only had 33 come his way because we had the time of possession I think. I'll have to double check

That would explain why we won so many games this year.

Stroman also happened to get the 1st Interception thrown by Trubisky in a ridiculous number of attempts, although North Carolina states the interception never happened because of the hurricane.
