I found an interesting note about Oklahoma's 1995 season (when Fuente was a redshirt freshman there): Then Oklahoma head coach Howard Schasldkksda;lkjger was rather arrogant about where he would end up in school history saying "They will write books and make movies about my time here." In a delicious twist he ended up resigning after only one year of being the head coach with a 5-5-1 record.
The real thing I want to point out is Schasdfjlasdfger also apparently angered the entire Oklahoma fanbase by claiming he would make everyone forget about former legendary coaches Bud Wilkinson and Barry Switzer.
Since Fuente was on that football team and saw all of this go down first hand, I wonder how that affected his thought process in terms of replacing Beamer as head coach here at VT? He seems to have gotten out of his way to honoring Beamer (#25 jersey on special teams) and has acted generally humble when asked about what it meant to him to replace Beamer.

Good stuff, didn't know any of that. But yea, I'd think he likely learned a lesson
Is Schnellenberger so hard to spell? It's not a complicated name like Krzyzewski
I love Copy/Pasting stuff too

I don't care how you spell it, all I know is it's pronounced "Kevin".
Last time I tried to cite Wikipedia as a source I got an F. But great find!
That's because you forgot the first rule of using wiki as the sauce. You don't site wiki, you use the citations that wiki provides.
That's what I tell my students.
Of course, it's on them to choose the right citations...
Smart. I tried to click on one of the sources on that Wikipedia page and it came up blank. Took me to a weird search engine that proved fruitless in trying to find the article that the author cited for the most egregious comment that Schnellenberger made in the Wikipedia article.
Which is why Wikipedia isn't a source.
While that experience almost certainly had an impact, I think Fuente's class would have shined anyway.
WTF? Seriously, WTF? Are you trying to compare Beamer to schnellenberger or what? Or are you implying that Fuente is angering the entire fan base? What is the point of this thread?
Umm he is saying Fuente learned that being a grounded coach who honors the legend who came before him is important.
I don't see how you would draw these conclusions from this post.
put down the beer...step away from the computer...take a BF chill pill
BF?
"Big Fucking", I assume.

Certainly couldn't have meant "Bud Foster," because nothing about that man's intensity makes me want to chill. More likely to run through a brick wall.
VT and it subsidiaries are not responsible for anything that happens if you take any pill named Bud Foster.
I believe Marvel characters are created this way.
This is gold...have a leg.
And here I was thinking he meant it was some sort of chill pill suppository
The post was intended to make you angry.
It seems to have succeeded.
:)
This needs to go into the TKP HOF as the most misguided, misinterpreted WTF comment ever.

OK, we're piling on at this point, but you can't use one without the other, so I can't resist...
The facepalm trifecta: Godzilla, King Kong, and "reluctant kitty".
Are you okay
I just want to know how you pronounce Howard Schasldkksda;lkjger.
Sounds like that fellow must be from here:

Looks Polish.
I don't even know what I'm looking at....cities or elfish
Not enough Zs in it for it to be polish. Believe me...I know.
after working in poland for a time, I can attest that this is probably true.....
I had a coworker named Grzegorz. Most unnecessary use of z's I've ever seen.
It's pronounced "Greg".
Luuuuu - ser
It is pronounced Kevisgsbxkx.
Which is phonetically equivalent to [KEH-vihn]
Kevin?
I'm kinda sad that I had to scroll so far down to get to this reply.
I feel like a broken record but I will, again, point to Whit as the reason all of this has gone so well. He's maneuvering perfectly to cement Beamer's legacy as a legendary VT coach while positioning Fuente to follow up and endear the fan base. The rotating #25, if I'm not wrong, had to go through Whit not Fuente. The car stunt came from Whit. A lot of the new spaces and athletic facilities are things that Whit has been pushing.
I absolutely love Fuente and Co. but at the end of the day, I see a very smart, very humble AD behind all of this.
Been amazing how smooth the transition is. It's great having Beamer continue to
get credit and then on the other hand having the new regime do well.
CJF has shown and expressed his never-ending respect for legends, especially with our own legend in Beamer.
I had to repost this tweet because it shows CJF's humility in being our HC and the enormous respect and responsibility that comes with leading our team!
Cheers to future decades as having CJF as our HC and calling Blacksburg home!
Fuente, at least IMOP, has far surpassed Mr. What-his-name in terms of character AND being a better coach.
You mean Rich Rod?

THERE he is!
So, have you reached the point where you give other guys ~ 1 hour to post the HOLD and we're waiting gifs before you finish us off ;-)
His name was not invoked. Once it was a had it up in ~8 minutes
I came across an interesting hand written note in Fuente's office with some check marks scribbled next to them, wonder if they are related to his coaching plans for year 1 at VT:
1) Don't be an arrogant prick
2) Don't go .500 in year one
3) Find a way to honor beamer (possibly wear 25?)
4) Almost out of TP, stop at store on way home
I honestly believe that Beamer and Fuente are both genuinely classy, stand up guys.
That being said said even if they weren't it doesn't make much sense for either of them to behave differently. They both benefit from a smooth transfer of power .
I think Fuente has admired Beamer from afar for much of his professional career (or so he has said); I don't know how familiar a young Fuente would have been with Shasjdjdner's predecessors.
