Source: ESPN was in talks to pair #Hokies & Texas A&M in football series to replace Wisconsin in 2016-17. That's not happening now.— Mike Barber (@RTD_MikeBarber) September 4, 2013
This is who I was told would be replacing Wisconsin when they pushed the series back. Then it became Blacksburg's worst kept secret. Then something went wrong, or so it seems.

Replace A&M with Georgia? Seems like a good game. I think Georgia would be looking for another marquee out of conference opponent. Outside of GT their only other non conference game in 2016 is Georgia Southern.
Edit: Plus, I want more games with SEC girls. Those girls from Alabama were incredible.
Coming up on the 10 year anniversary of one of my favorite games, too bad...
I started dating my now wife immediately after that game.
are we as guys required to do the 10 year celebration if we end up marrying the girl? Does it reset the anniversary counter?
Yes?????
My wife and I got married on the 2 year anniversary of our starting dating, engaged on the 1 year, so I only have one day besides her birthday to remember.
Nice planning disguised as romance.
that is indeed.
Dream scenario: Tennessee
Likely and sensible: Kentucky, Rutgers
I could see Kentucky, but Rutgers? I know Weaver is on some sort of a Big 10 kick lately but they just don't have the prestige to be our big non-conference game. Kentucky I can see because they love their football team even though they've sucked lately. And they're on the rise.
cough four of our top recruiting prospects are from New Jersey cough
I don't follow recruiting at all, so I obviously prefer the better opponent to the one that helps recruits.
And we had plenty of players from PA & NY on the '99 squad, so I'm glad Pitt & Cuse are part of the conference as far as recruiting is concerned.
DAMN 3,000 TURKEY LEGS
Play Tennessee at Bristol Motor Speedway.
I don't think this is possible any more. Unfortunately they built this big scoreboard thing in the center of the area where they'd have to put the field. Maybe they could squeeze a field in somehow though.
If I'm not mistaken, that board has been up for years(a little cloudy on how long, I'm usually three sheets to the wind by the time I walk into the track). And they have had a monster truck rally there since it has been up. I found a picture of the board coming down, not quite sure how to load pictures. Anyway, I think the major issue with having a game at the track is that the stands would be entirely too far away from the field.
But the spectacle of it would be awesome!
Think winter classic in a baseball stadium. There's no way to see the puck from the upper deck behind home plate, but the "event" is well attended.
If they could figure it out, they could easily have 180,000 tix to sell.
Yeah the cost of tearing down and rebuilding the scoreboard would pale in comparison to the money they'd make putting on the game, it would still be a net win financially.
And Bruton has never met a dollar he doesn't like...
There were talks about timing it so WHEN the scoring pylon would be replaced and down, they could play the game.
But I'm sure Weaver would do something silly like make it an 11am kickoff. On a Monday.
Being from Bristol, I would love nothing more than a Saturday night opening week game against Tennessee. The night race in Bristol is usually the third weekend in August, so BMS would have anywhere from 5 to 12 days to tear down the scoring tower and install a field. Bruton could bring in Robosaurus and make a spectacle out of it. With the current seating capacity around 160,000, it's like combining Lane and Neyland stadiums. It's really a win/win for Burton. There has been talk of this in Bristol since I can remember, but the rumor is Tennessee would never agree to it.
Oh jeez I just had an idea.
Night race in Bristol. Next day, dump a bunch of dirt on the infield. Have a monster truck rally there with the purpose of destroying anything standing in the way of laying down a football field. Destroy the scoreboard with Grave Digger. Remove debris. Install field. Host football.
Some Tennessee residents won't even have to tow their homes away between all three events.
This has got to be the most efficient and logical sequence for said events! Bravo equine sir!
Industrial Engineering degree FTW! Finally used it for something!
I think it will be Georgia.
It should be Tennessee. Its the perfect match up. Close proximities as well.
Is this Tennessee thing coming from any source or just hopeful thoughts? I could go for Tennessee, but people often joke that they have enough rivals as it is.
Any SEC team will do for me.
Dream opponent: Oklahoma
That would be great football
Can't get A&M, let's get a '95 Sugar Bowl rematch series. Being from Houston, I LOATHE Longhorn "fans." Nothing would make me happier than whooping their asses again. One stipulation: Bud is required to bring back the Starter jacket from '95. That was the tits.
I prefer UT or OU anyway. Already played aTm.
Yea we p*wn aTm.
Judging by A&M's future schedules, I'm guessing they decided against playing anyone with talent.

This is actually out of date because they have dropped the Oregon series, and dropped a series with USC earlier.
FL, TN, GA, SC In order of preference
Now that I'm gonna have a degree from UGA once we play the 2016-7 games, this would get rather interesting between me and my friends if that does end up being the opponent.
I've always wanted us to play UGA as retribution for that 06 bowl game that may or may not have happened.
I've always felt that Georgia has the best to offer of everything for all SEC schools.
Come on Texas A&M.
Amen
This is how I feel about Wisconsin
Amen
oh man how did I miss this one... +1000
it sucks we use a virtual machine browser at work that filters this stuff out most of the time...going to switch to my android from now on after this epic fail on my part.
Tennessee, Texas or Oregon (just to really make it random)
My hopes is either Tennessee or South Carolina for the standard options. Random option is a home and home with TCU. Like the way that program is run and now they are in a big boy conference
I'd like a matchup with TCU too. They're kinda like us... Started small, built themselves into being.nationally relevant, and they have an unorthodox color scheme. It couldn't be more perfect.
If we're keeping it in Texas, I'll throw Baylor out there as well. They're on a shortened upward trend, but I guess we'd have to wait a few years to see if they really sustain it.
I would like to see Tennessee too. That is possible since they don't have an annual out of conference game. I doubt we would get South Carolina since they already have Clemson. If they go to a nine game conference schedule I would think they would play two easy games plus Clemson.
Bring on whoever. Because now we have the coaches who will coach the players up to their fullest potential. And once we get 2-3 full classes in we'll be unstoppable.
Alabama just cancelled a series with Michigan State in 2016/2017. I know it's not likely because if Alabama backed out they probably have somebody better in mind lined up already, but we have that 16/17 opening still hanging around, and man would I love to see a home-and-home and have Alabama come into Lane at night...
Rumor is they cancelled because the SEC is going to 9 conference games soon.
I would actually rather play Michigan State. Said this on Twitter but I could see this actually happening. Makes a lot of sense really. Sparty and Tech actually have a lot in common.
I would so be there for that one.
Except that from a recruiting standpoint, it does little for us.
Ok, just being selfish because I would love to see VT in person. ND, Michigan, MSU, and Ohio State have this area pretty much locked up as far as recruiting. I was hoping with the Pitt and Louisville additions we could start chipping at the edges...Making a road trip to Pitt or Louisville will not be that bad though. Going to try to get into the Ohio State game too.
hmm..., I think you're going to see a change in recruiting blueprint from the hokies, with a heavy focus on B1G country. Will they get up to Detroit and the rest of Michigan, probably not. But they do seem to want to recruit Western PA, Ohio and Indiana more, which makes any game against the B1G a "big" draw with recruits.
i would love an excuse to go to Athens
If we're in a crazy good year, I'd love to see us against Florida. Then we can have a year with Miami, Florida, and FSU, and just own THAT state, too.
Florida hasn't played an OOC game outside of the state of Florida since the early 90s.
What a bunch of homers!
Michigan State would be nice.
Michigan State would be nice, but we're already loaded up with Big 2 Little 10 teams. How about UCLA? They look pretty good.
That would be better than Michigan St. I love playing against west coast teams.
I would say Oklahoma State, but they might not be relevant for much longer.
