Not entirely sure who I should talk to or anything but I'm part of the new meteorology program at tech and I'd love to give weather reports for saturday afternoons/nights, might not be particularly good this semester seeing as I'm still in a few entry level classes but I'd love to get in touch with the higher ups if possible for future forecasting!!! As for this weekend for those of whom are coming down its a pretty easy forecast, we've got some high pressure systems hanging out over the east coast at the moment and more from the west meaning its gonna be a hot and sunny day saturday most likely! bring your short sleeves and tailgating equipment its gonna be a perfect day for some college football!!!
also if youre in town friday night show the girls soccer team a little love friday night against charolette, not exactly a huge game but its always good to show some love to a successful program and our girls soccer team has looked pretty impressive thus far this season
GO HOKIES!

as a weather nerd, i support this idea
me too, i find weather fascinating. i told my wife when we retire i'm gonna be a weather watcher for whatever local news is near where we live. she told me i was a dork.
if there is a hurricane or winter storm coming, i can be glued to my computer for hours looking at models and reading weather forums.
I'm obsessed with radar.... I get so pissed off when a good storm is only a few miles away and completely goes around my house.
Tropical Storm Bud is due to make landfall in Blacksburg sometime around 1:30 PM on Saturday.
Is Dave Carroll still there? I took a few electives with him, purely out of interest.
Professor Carroll is spearheading the new program (he's an AWESOME guy who I will be working with on forecasting until I get my feet under me a little bit better)
I've had a few friends that went on the storm chases with him.
I might go this summer depending on when they go I also might go up into the Rockies to monitor weather
changes due to altitude
I think that this is a great idea! Please keep the weather reports coming. And, the very best to you in your studies.
Yes, keep them coming! I'm also a weather nerd. :)
It's always important to know the weather, especially if you're heading to Blacksburg for a football game.
How do I know I am getting old? I am in love with the women of the Weather Channel. Jen Carfagno, you complete me.
I could care less about watching the Weather Channel....however, watching the Weather Channel ladies....different story....Stephanie Abrams, Crystal Egger, etc.
I've always just written the weather off as magic.
At least it's not electricity and magnetism. That stuff is black magic.
PHYS 2306 was the death of everyone. However, I believe Chang teaches it now
Not when I had it. They curved everyone's grades to an 83 and dropped our lowest with attendance (which you should have a 100 on unless you're just that lazy). So on the last test I drew a dinosaur fighting a shark. Got an A still.
I took it at NOVA, where the N stands for Knowledge because I heard of the devils in that class.
I loved 2306. Electricity, magnetism, and waves. Had Prof Piilonen (spelling?) for that class, got an A+.
Piilonen was great. He did a guest lecture in my 2205 class (I took non-majors), and it was the only one all semester that made me feel like I learned something. I definitely liked second semester the best, though. The electricity labs were so easy, though I guess it helps that my dad was an electrical/computer engineer so I had been doing that kind of stuff most of my life...
Saturday Forecast:
We'll start out in the morning with some nice cool temperatures. It will be perfect for a Irish Coffee or Mimosa. Later in the morning it will begin to warm, but the winds should stay down, leadning to some exciting corn hole action. It shouldn't be too humid allowing all you Hokies out there to get the charcoal and cigars going easily. As we get close to kickoff I expect perfect conditions for burbon drinking and beer shotgunning. From 1:30 to around 4:30 expect a high chance of Fuller Hits, Edmunds Runs, and Sam Rogers distruction.
Saturday evening should be perfect for a night of RAILS!!!
eshiben5, you should include drinking forecasts like this as well in your weekly post. I approve.
I usually try to tweet this info out on the Thurs/ Fri before the game (based on reviewing multiple weather outlets' forecasts). Get on the Twitters and we'll make sure your forecasts get spread around there too.
Partly cloudy with a high probably of storms raining down on the Catamounts. Expect to see some lightning strikes and a few rainbows from LT. Can't come up with any better weather metaphors at the moment. Anyone else?
Expect a large amount of thunder to be coming in from the VT defensive line.
Great idea, but needs more diagrams and Youtube excerpts like the football analysis.
I agree; you have the opportunity to teach us about weather like French teaches us about football. Make it informative and well-written, with diagrams and videos of what you describe. Do that, and TKP'ers will be singing your praises like you were TheFifthFuller.
Comon man you're comparing me to the FRENCH....let me say this again... THE FRENCH! I'll do what I can but don't expect it to be mind blowingly awesome until I get a little forecasting under my belt
Don't fault me for the high standards around here. And don't sell yourself short; you can be as good as you want to be. I found this site with a quick google search: http://www.ems.psu.edu/~fraser/BadMeteorology.html
I was thinking of something like those topics each week, to make us more cirrus and less nimbus :)
weather puns are a breath of fresh air around here
heh - I see what you did there.
weather? what is this hokus pokus you speak of?
Weather report for right now in State College, PA.
62 degrees. No humidity. Light breeze. Should be about this nice for the game against Directional Michigan tomorrow
Almost reminds me of Blacksburg...cool!
Somebody call the fire department in State College! There's a horse in an upper floor of a building!
Ahahaha on the outer porch of the third floor conference room.
well the finished product is posted drinking forecast will be introduced next week i like the idea, ALSO I'd be open to any other witty ideas
also i almost did include the coriolis joke without even looking at that haha
