Louisville's coach was suspended, which usually means not getting paid, or perhaps forgoing any bonus for the bowl to which he might have been entitled.
This has CYA written all over it. The ACC punishes the schools in the conference who were involved, Louisville punishes the coach for which it has responsibility, and UGA punishes the offending coach to (1) head off embarrassment and (2) keep the NCAA from sniffing around. Now all the ends are tied up with neat little bows. Everyone who did anything wrong has been punished.
I also bet that UGA turns that check right over to VT. Louisville is going to recover the money from their OC's salary, VT will recover their penalty from Shane's since it was Shane's fault that VT is being punished at all.

This was so obvious. Didn't want to make unfounded allegations on the earlier thread, but it was obvious Tech was trying not to sully the Beamer name and legacy. Any other ex assistant and I think VT would have been more upfront from the beginning and completely honest. Wait a couple weeks, news cycle has moved on and it's Christmas, then release it when people have mostly moved on.

I mean, you could be right, but I just don't think that is the case. I think regardless of which coach it was VT wasn't going to release the name publicly. It's too risky to do that considering all of the independent investigations are not yet completed. If VT releases information publicly that ends up not matching information that becomes apparent in a final report by some other entity that will not look good for VT. That, among a plethora of other potential legal risks...I think not naming the offender publicly is the right play no matter what. I don't buy that this was a "protect the Beamer legacy by not telling anyone who it was" angle because I think we can all agree that Whit is smart enough to know that the name was coming out eventually no matter how hard he tries to keep it quiet.

There is no way I can conceive that protecting the Beamer name was involved in Whitts decision making. It's always a fools errand to hide the truth in a crisis. Whit knows better.

Shane is being fined by his employer. VT is being fined by its conference. Fining Shane does not negate our debt to the ACC. I wouldn't be surprised, however, if UGA sends Whit a check.

UGA actually came out ahead because of this. The 25k fine they imposed on Shane was just taken out of his salary... so UGA saved 25k because of Wakey Leaks.
