Week one of the 2013 College Football season was a blur of driving, comic book nerds, bammers and great beer. Outside the CFA kickoff classic and the UGA/Clemson game, I missed most of the weekend. I'm ready to hunker down and watch football, but damn did it almost got real at my house. Luckily that crisis has been adverted as cable at BCO'S house has been restored and the world is almost at peace. I was oh so close to living at the bar from noon to midnight on Saturday and finding a DUI and/or a divorce attorney on Monday. Let's hope cable stays up for my well being.
Anyway, there are three marquee games on the schedule this week, shockingly at 3 different times for a change. We won't have to flip back and forth, we can just settle in and watch. This recalls a time long ago in the mid 00's when this scenario happened every Saturday. I like it, a throwback if you will, though that is unlikely to be an opinion to be shared by Mrs. BCO.

THIS SATURDAY!
The Games:
Friday, September 6th
Wake Forest at Boston College -3.5 8:00 pm ESPN2
- Starting out with Friday Night Lights at #BeADude, because I <3 #goacc and the rest of the matchups this week suck
- Let's be real, these two programs should be doing backflips not to be on Raycom or ESPN3 ... we are the new Big East
Pick: Wake Forest and the points. I am not sure who wins, but I think it will be close.
****
Saturday, September 7th
Florida -2.5 at Miami noon ESPN

- No question that this game is circled on the UM calendar. The attendance at Sun Life will be up and not embarrassing. If the Canes want to be back this season, it starts here. A loss and the snark will be strong.
- A mid day game in early September in Miami, I expect to see a lot of cramps. Team depth may end up playing a huge part for the winning team
- I know the worst unit on the field is the Miami D, but the Florida O isn't much better, even if the Gators have found a running game this season. They still have Jeff Driskel.
Pick: da U and the points, winning outright. Because Jeff Driskel happens and I just can't take him in a big game, I just can't.
****
Oregon -21.5 at Virginia 3:30 pm ABC / ESPN2
- The Hoos new Blitzing D, may cause problems, but a missed assignment or a bad call and the ducks are boat racing. uva's offense will struggle to bust 20, that's usually a bad fit vs Oregon
- This will be my first look at new Oregon coach Mark Helfrich, one can only hope he's a smug a-hole on the sidelines like his predecessor
- In case we need to see an ahole on the sidelines, they can pan to the other sidelines as London is sure to clown it up
Pick: Ducks covering. Hoos keep it close early, but their D wears down as the O stalls out and Oregon just keeps on running.
****
South Carolina at Georgia -3.5 4:30 pm ESPN

- Mark Richt has lost control of his schedule makers, a big loss to Clemson to start the season and now the Ole Ball Coach in week 2!!
- I know Clemson has an excellent offense, but the Dawgs defense looks suspect. Sakerlina isn't a world beater on O, but Spurrier almost always finds a way
- I have a hunch that Jadeveon Clowney is going to be in the Georgia backfield a lot this week. I think the media lit a fire that's about to burn QB Aaron Murray ass
Pick: Sakerlina outright. Take the Ole Ball Coach (who is my spirit animal) add him to a pissed off Clowney equals more post game crying Dawg fans
****
West Virginia at Oklahoma -20.5 7:00 pm FOX
- Week one narratives ... OU's defense is BACK and wvu's offense has fallen back
- I am pretty excited to learn about both teams, to see where they stand and how the coaching staffs have adjusted
- Luckily for Bob Stoops, this doesn't qualify as a big game, so he should be fine, but should he lose this ...
Pick: OU by 3 or more touchdowns. Until Holgo can prove he is capable of fielding a BCS level defense, I can't pick him (especially on the road) to cover versus a team with superior talent.
****
Notre Dame at Michigan -3.5 8:00 pm ESPN

- On gameday Brady Hoke doesn't eat prior to the game. I like his respect for the men who stand behind him for those 3 hours
- Michigan took a step back last season, but are expected to be better this season, with Notre Dame being a bit worse (Hello, Tommy Rees)
- The Wolverines will not be captain'd by Denard Robinson, this will finally be the Hoke/Borges offense he envisioned, i.e. stale pro-style with a healthy dose of run up the middle
Pick: Michigan by a touchdown. The game will be low scoring and close. It will be uglier than the words Brian Kelly will sling at Rees, but I feel a late score will give Michigan the win and the cover.
****
Beer of the Week:
Westbrook Cap'n Skoon Baltic Stout

Thanks to my boy Will for getting me some Sakerlina craft beer. Cap'n was bottled in December of 2012, so this roasty stout (on lager yeast) should be ready to consume now. It's a slow drinking beer, so should fit in well with the ND/Michigan game.
As always please pick against the spread and leave comments. Standings after week one will be posted shortly. There is a "mythical" prize at the end.
Overview
WF at BC -3.5
UF -2.5 at da U
Oregon -21.5 at uva

Wake - coin flip and it landed Wake
Da U - because
USC - UGA let down game/ hurt offensive players
OU - WVU had to score in the final minutes to avoid falling to W&M...dont think the offense is quite there yet
Michigan - because I hate the golden domers
I am definitely locating that beer this weekend!
I think I had another stellar week in the Pick 6 last week so lets see if I can top my incompetance this week.
Wake outright... god both of these teams suck
I'm gonna go with Florida ending the "Da U is BACK" early this year
Gotta go with Oregon to completely blow the Hoos out
South Carolina over UGA. watch Athens go into complete meltdown mode after this one
OU to roll. WVU just isn't any good
Michigan wins big... well, they at least cover.

was drinking that at the tailgate last week. solid for when pounding a few and don't want to skimp on good, but not be blotto by kickoff too!
BC - not so much because BC wins, but because Wake loses
Florida - just to ruin Mama Giraffe's day/week/season
Oregon - not even close (bonus off-the-wall pick: TimeCop tries to stop the bleeding by desperately trying to call a timeout while DeAnthony Thomas is flying down the field but just ends up crying on the sideline)
SCAR - Clowney eats Aaron Murray
OK - no contest, second only to the Oregon-UVa game
Michigan - close one, but Gardner leads a late drive for the W
WF because I just can't pick BC
Gators - suck it BR and Giraffe
Oregon - Oregon score a field goal more than we score against WCU

WF at BC -3.5 - Wake Forest. This is the same BC, right? Wake has to be used to playing in front of lame crowds so I'm sure they'll handle Chesnutt Hill without batting an eyelash.
UF -2.5 at da U - Florida. I can't buy the ACC still.
Oregon -21.5 at uva - Oregon. Please run it up, Ducks.
Sakerlina at UGA -3.5 - USC. Georgia got smacked by Clemson and lost Malcolm Mitchell in the process. This will be a close game but in the end the extra preparation and less pressure will allow USC to get the W.
wvu at OU -20.5 - OU. I expect WVU's defense is look helpless, and plan to enjoy every moment of it.
ND at Michigan -3.5 - Michigan. Losing Robinson is probably a net positive for Michigan.
Wake wins outright....they can't even mess up enough to lose to BC
da U....they're back, you know...at least til they play us
The Ducks may actually double the spread
USCe wins outright, UGA fans by stock in kleenex.

5. OOOOKKKKKLAHOMA where the sun comes sweepin down the plain
6. Michigan in probably the most boring game of the day.
I'm sure the beer will take care of itself, but I have a more pressing concern. I have to go to a housewarming/engagement party on Saturday. I have given the lovely couple ample warning that they must figure out how to play ESPN3 on their TV, but my confidence in them is lacking. Would it be rude to show up with my laptop and an HDMI cable just in case? Or do I have to resort to sitting by myself in the corner watching on my phone while resenting them forever?
WF - because the battle of tiny two named private schools is always won by the south
da U - looking for a state championship from U guys
Oregon ...
Sakerlina ... Clowney back in form
OU - WVU is headed towards the dumpster
ND - because it's in my blood

Wake Forest - not much to say here, didn't watch either team last week, but Wake had a larger margin of victory
Miami - heat might not play as much of a factor since they've been in it all summer
Oregon - hopefully they crush
Georgia - bounce back from a tough loss (more of a wish, I hate SC and actually respect GA)
Oklahoma - sorry WVU, this won't be close
Michigan - back and forth game, Michigan pulls away at the end
There's absolutely no need to apologize to WVU.

I'll be having Boulevard Brewing's Tripel from their Smokestack Series:
haven't tried this yet, they just startered distro in our area.
Found this and several others by Boulevard at the Vintage Cellar in Blacksburg. Their Tank 7 (a very strong Saison - 8.5%) is amazing. The way they hop gives an aroma of papaya. Never experienced that before. I had their Quadrupel last night. It was a decent quad, just nothing overly special.

WF at BC -3.5 - Wake beat Presbyterian last week pretty convincingly after being down early, so BC should be no issue for them. Going with the Deacs.
UF -2.5 at da U - Miami still isn't back, regardless of what people want to believe, they have to prove it to me. Taking the Gators.
Oregon -21.5 at uva - I hate to say it but UVA looked goo.....i mean....not too awful against BYU. But they will be lucky to keep it within 35 this week. Quack quack bitches.
Sakerlina at UGA -3.5 - UGA comes out and proves that they are still a national title contender after a tought loss last week. USC didn't impress me that much against the other Carolina. GO DAWGS!!!
wvu at OU -20.5 - WVU almost lost to W&M and now they get Oklahomoa...NOT SO FAST MY FRIEND! WVU covers, but just.
ND at Michigan -3.5 - Michigan is out to prove that ND has no business being mentioned among the top tier teams this year. Michigan wins going away.

Oregon - I hear those guys are fast.
South Carolina - What's the over/under for Spurrier going shirtless?
OU - Sorry, cousins.
Michigan - Why is ESPN crying over this series ending? If the series started less than 20 yrs ago...not a rivalry, in my opinion.

Gators - Until the Canes prove they can win again on a national stage, I can't pick em here. Florida wins a close one.
Ducks - This one is over by the opening kickoff. At least the chardonnay will still be chilled when the Hoos exodus for the tailgating lots at halftime.
USC East - Dawgs roll over after last week's close loss.
Sooners - WVU's offense just isn't that good. Sooners with a three score lead by halftime.
Michigan - Gardner looks legit, and I can't in good conscience predict a win for the Domers.

Hmmm, WF at BC, well I will take Costa Rica. Yeah, I missed this game b/c I watched the USMNT game and I forgot to put this pick. Who cares? I mean maybe Joe is reading this but no nobody else is because it 3:00am EST right now. Well now the Hokies are 0-1, who thunk that? Has you ever felt more sorry for Bud Foster so early? And BeamerBall, that is so cringe-worthy now. It is 2013 right? Just checking because last week I went to the bar that is the official #Hokies watching bar here in Seattle and they only had one tv, and guess what, it wasn't HD! I think the correct term is SD or Can't See Shit, or Did That Field Goal Make It, or wow, shit, I am 97 years old. Needless to say, I am not going there now. Anyway on to the picks.
No Pick
#goacc
UF
Two words: Jacory Harris. OK, he is not playing but who is his replacement? Nevin Morris? Stephen Shapiro? Yeah, the Florida Man offense still sucks, but their D and their Depth will have them win by a field goal at least.
Ducks
I hate an Oregon game without a pic of their cheerleaders. Seriously, the only good thing about the state of Oregon is the cheerleaders at Oregon University. Regardless I think it will be a match-up of clock management. Oregon will try to run plays quickly and London will look like Ralphy from the Simpsons. The Ducks won't mean to cover, but they will not be able to help it.
Sakerlina
As much as I want to pick Georgi b/c of the pic of UGA IIVXXX, I have to go with Sakerlina. There has been a lot of talk about how Murray is 1-10 against top 10 competition, which would make me wan to take them. But there has been more dribble about Clowney taking plays off. That is wonderful conjecture. I mean I don't know him and I haven't coached him so let me tell you how he took plays off in 95+ tempatures with 99% Humidity.
WVU
Only b/c of the spread. I hate the Big8. Maybe it is jealousy but I hate everyone in the conference.
Domers
Why? Why not? Its a toss up, I spun my dog around a a coupe time and he picked ND.
Well thats all for now, no specific beer as I had a bunch of different ones. Go Hokies.
ND at Michigan -3.5
