Isaiah Ford Declares for NFL Draft

Virginia Tech's record-setting wide receiver is going pro.

[Mark Umansky]

Isaiah Ford, arguably Virginia Tech's top all-time receiver, announced he will forgo his senior season and head to the NFL.

Ford joins Hokies' redshirt junior WR/TE Bucky Hodges in pursuit of an NFL career. ranks Ford as the 70th overall draft prospect and No. 8 WR. ranks Ford the No. 11 overall WR.

Speed is the No. 1 attribute that the junior brings to the table. Ford is a vertical wideout who stretches a defense over the top. He is quick to get separation out of his breaks and can burn past college corners running go routes. Ford is a speed receiver, but I'm not sure that he is a rare burner like Will Fuller.

There are a few things that Ford can show improvement upon in 2016. First of all, he does a lot of body catching. Ford needs to use his hands more to reel passes in and secure them. He also is a lanky receiver who could stand to add more strength. That will help him to get off jams in the NFL.

Ford shredded Virginia Tech's receiving records during his three years in Blacksburg. The Jacksonville, Florida product set single-season school records for receptions (79), receiving yards (1,164), and receiving touchdowns (11). In 2016 he solidified himself as Hokies' career record holding in the three aforementioned categories (210 catches, 2,967 yards, and 24 TDs).

Throughout the program's history, only two Virginia Tech wide receivers tallied 1,000 receiving yards in a season. Both are named Isaiah Ford.

You stole our hearts and made us proud!

Now go do you and rep VT well!

"Welcome to the Terror Dome." -- Corey Moore

A thank you isn't even appropriate for Isaiah, he deserves more. Not to mention, his mom is a great Hokie too. I look forward to seeing him represent the Hokies on Sunday's.

Another white bronco? The first one didn't go too far.

Good luck Isaiah, make us proud!

I selfishly wish he stayed but this was the only choice for him. Best of luck to him in the NFL (hopefully not in Dallas)

Best of luck to Isaiah and his family, true Hokies!

He's the VT GOAT. Hope he has a fantastic career.

Next year is going to be the Cam Phillips show.

The Orange and Maroon you see, that's fighting on to victory.

Go get PAID.

This actually makes me happy. I'm so happy that he is and always will be a Hokie and that he's following his dreams.

Outside it's night time, but inside it's LeDay

Do we still have this one?

Good luck and God bless, man.

When the coaches talk about how he changed his body, I mean he really changed his body.

"That kid you're talking to right there, I think he played his nuts off! And you can quote me on that shit!" -Bud Foster

I am so happy and so sad. Isaiah has been one of my all-time favorite Hokies to watch. Best of luck, sir, and thank you for setting all those new records for the next generation to aspire to break.

Best of luck, Isaiah.

I found TKP after two rails from TOTS then walking back to my apartment and re-watching the 2012 Sugar Bowl. I woke up the next day with this username.

Sad to see him go.. the most dominant Hokie over the past few seasons. Go get that money!!

I'm your huckleberry

god i hope ford has an amazing nfl career

Taylor, looking desperately throws it deep..HAS A MAN OPEN DANNY COALE WITH A CATCH ALL THE WAY DOWN TO THE FIVE!!!!....hes still open

Go make money and have sons!

If you're reading the above post and thinking, "is this guy serious?!?," you can safely assume I'm not.

Ford starts with F just like Fuller......

"It's a miracle in Blacksburg, TYROD DID IT MIKEY, TYROD DID IT!"

One of my all time favorites. Good luck Isaiah!

Best of luck, Mr. Ford! The greatest receiver in VT History IMO! #TripleCrown #MostCatches #MostYards #MostTouchdowns

Im not even sure the NFL has waist size 26 pants.

I was really hoping he'd stay, but this is the right move for him. He's definitely ready for the next level...more so than Bucky IMO. Hope nothing but the best for him.

I think of Isaiah a lot like I thought of a guy like Jamison Crowder. An outstanding college WR that is more than likely going to be a rock-solid NFL slot guy. Dude can high-point the ball and his routes are sick.

"How you doin', Randy?"

Seems like yesterday

Reminds me of the reports I heard coming out of spring ball that Ford was roasting everyone and would likely be a big time player as a true freshman.

"Virginia Tech university"

Just kidding! Go kill it in the NFL Isaiah!

What a humble, classy 4 star recruit (seemingly rare). Great job Ford parents...ya did it right.

Lucky to have him as a Hokie.

" And The Va Tech University" Marketing needs to get off its ass.

"Hey Bud, you wont have to hold the opponent to 17 points anymore."

Good luck man.

Oh boy, Cam is about to get quite the workload this year.

will miss ya! best of luck!

"Vick, dashing back . . . here he comes again . . . Electrifying . . . and have you ever seen anything like this?"

Good for him, go get that paycheck.

But dammit our outlook for next year just took a massive hit the last couple days.

King Alum of the House Hokie, the First of His Name, Khal of the Turkey Legs, The rightful Heir to the Big Board, the Unbanned, Breaker of Trolls and Father of Gritty

Evans just declared he's going pro...fuck

Reading that scouting report... speed is his number 1 asset? Doesn't use his hands enough to catch?

Did we watch the same receiver?

I am guessing that text is from before the 2016 season based on the reference to "things to improve upon in 2016"

You go IF. Proud you are a Hokie! Make a ton. I remember Bud talking about you and Cam during your recruitment. Good stuff. Hey Pittsburg your man is on the table!

"Hey Bud, you wont have to hold the opponent to 17 points anymore."

I remember Bud talking about you and Cam during your recruitment.

I hope the NCAA Infractions Committee doesn't remember that... /s

aw man, was hoping he'd stay.

Truly amazing player that we're losing, looking forward to seeing him on Sundays.

Isaiah is the most polished, NFL-ready Hokie I think. That said, if he stayed and put up similar numbers next year to what he did this year, then the word "arguably" would be completely erased from all accounts of his college career as "arguably" VT's best-ever WR. To me he is inarguably the best already tho.

Thanks for the amazement, Isaiah! Go show 'em how it's done.

Good luck young man. A great Hokie and a pretty damn good football player too.

Best of luck, Isaiah. Mr. 1k.

I still remember watching him catch his first TD against William & Mary. Kid was damn excited and I was thrilled for him. How far he has come in 3 short years. And now he is pursuing his dream, and just like when he was a freshman, I am damn thrilled for him.

Yeah I remember the first glimpse I got of him...I think it was in a vine from practice where he went up, as a true freshman, over Kendall Fuller and pulled down a nice catch.

Good luck to Isaiah Ford. I will miss him on the field and his mom on the sideline.
Now it's time Belk bowl MVP and the rest of the WRs to step up!
Go Hokies!

I'm only 22, been a Hokie since I can remember. Minus Tyrod, Isaiah is my favorite Hokie in that time. In an era where VT was down, Isaiah was always elite. Not many teams have a guy that you can throw it up to and it's either a catch or PI. Happy for him and hope he goes as high as possible.

I'm your huckleberry

Good Luck and God of my favorite hokies, always striving to get better....and stronger...hope NFL brings the best out of you.

Hokies, Local Soccer, AFC Ajax, Ravens

Of the three that have announced they are entering the draft, Isaiah is without a doubt the most ready.

time to escape the ncaa and start your expedition in the nfl and flex your skills there.

(a thread with no ford puns?!)

Our Focus has just been elsewhere with all these guys embarking on their NFL Expeditions.

Go set more records at the next level. We are proud you are a Hokie. You played with class and style. Thanks !
