Also confirmed the rumor that I mentioned last week about Wilson maybe redshirting.
Tyrie Jackson hasn't been playing because of a private issue that is out of their control.
Just wondering, what would be the rationale behind red shirting Wilson? More depth next season after Allen leaves?
More likely it just came down to 1) have him play this year for 16-18 games or 2) have him play next year for all 30+ games with Allen graduated.
So Wilson isn't going to play football again next year?
Nope. He was with the seniors on Senior Day.
makes sense with the influx of WR recruits the past couple years
figured, damn it.

This is a fuck.
Seth Dooley?
Isiah Ford if he is still on campus?
I believe this is what MacGruber would describe as a "fuck damnit" even.
We will be better in 2018 and 2019 for this. Pain today for a gain tomorrow.

That's probably a lot more edifying of a gif for Skins fans if the Giants hadn't stolen their lunch money, kicked them in the nads and called them Cowboys fans in week 17.
Honestly I think Washington did it to themselves. They came out so flat in week 17, in the time-honored tradition of not showing up for games after 4 PM Sunday or with any sort of importance to the season at all.
As a Redskins fan who has witnessed several embarrassing losses throughout the years, this one may top them all. Playing against a team resting certain starters at one point or another and with a half-assed offensive playbook, we got embarrassed. Kirk Cousins hasn't shown the "winning gene" yet, in my opinion. He can execute a playbook and get the ball where it needs to go, but when it comes to a big game or a clutch drive late in the 4th quarter, I'm never surprised to see him struggle or throw a disaster interception.
They got throttled by a bad Panthers team this year who was without their star LB, lost their star DB to the Redskins themselves, and was without any semblance of a competent OL, when the Redskins were essentially "win and in" for the playoffs.
For as much as I hear Skins fans saying that they are close to being a contender, I don't see it. I think they've found a home in the dreaded perennial .500 record where you are good enough to just miss out on the playoffs every year but not bad enough to get a draft pick to legitimately help out the predicament.
Definitely not a contender yet. But with the firing of Joe Barry and hopefully the hiring of someone competent at defensive coordinator, we'll be able to at least put a product on the field defensively that can compete with the best. Some mock drafts have Reuben Foster going to the Redskins. The jury is still out on Cousins, though. Would love to see Tyrod in the burgundy and gold, though.
This really hurts. I liked Blackshear and he provides some inside toughness that VT lacks. When Sy sits, it is really up to Leday to play way above his height and weight inside and VT suffers on the boards as a results. Hopefully Buzz has his eyes on some big-man depth.
ATTN: If there are any students or alumni with eligibility that are 6'8 or taller, please report to Cassell Coliseum ASAP.
I had a buddy that was 6'8", 300 lbs at Tech and the football and basketball coaches did ask him to try out repeatedly while he was getting his chemical engineering degree.
We have Donlon and Buzz doesn't play him.
I don't think Buzz is quite so concerned about height as most of our fanbase is. He took a Marquette team to the Great 8 with Jimmy Butler at 6'6" at 4-man.
You rang?
We've run 6'6" Chris Clarke as the 4 man with few issues. Our problem is having no one to match up with the opponent's 5.
While I agree with your sentiment on Buzz not caring about height as much, Butler was already in the NBA when Buzz took Marquette to the Elite 8.
Butler was drafted in 2011. Butler did play in the tournament in three seasons though, making the second, first and then Sweet Sixteen his last season.
Marquette made Elite 8 in 2012-13.
All of that said though, if you go and look at Buzz' small lineups at Marquette, he had a ton of 6'6, 6'7 or 6'8 guys that were all 215 lbs plus to rotate almost every year.
2008 - 5 guys 6'7 or taller, plus Butler and Hayward at 6'6, both over 215 lbs (Hayward was a starter, Butler 6th Man playing 20 MPG, Hazel, Burke, Otule played about 37 MPG combined)
2009 - 4 guys 6'7 or taller, plus Butler and Hayward at 6'6, both over 215 lbs(Hayward and Butler starters, Fulce, Otule, Maymon, Mbao averaged about 30 MPG)
2010 - 5 guys 6'7 or taller, plus Butler, Jae Crowder and Jamail Jones 6'6, over 210 Lbs (Butler and Crowder starters, Otule, Gardner, Fulce, Williams and Jones averaged about 42 MPG)
2011 - 3 guys 6'7 or taller, Crowder, Jones and Juan Anderson 6'6, over 205 Lbs (Gardner and Crowder starters, Wilson, Otule, Jones and Anderson averaged about 45 MPG)
2012 - 5 guys 6'7 or taller, plus Anderson (Gardner and Wilson starters, Otule, Taylor, Anderson averaged about 49 MPG)
To say Buzz played smaller lineups is one thing but as shown above almost three spots on the floor at all times were players 6'6 or taller.
This roster for Buzz due to injuries and other issues just doesnt have that same bulk to be able to withstand some of these ultra physical contests, sometimes simply by total of personal fouls which is why I really find it curious when Donlon doesnt get more play. Why wear down the limited personnel you have when you have fresh legs that can eat a few minutes each game, especially games where we are down by 20 or more.
Donlon is a fan favorite, and from what I read, an all around great kid. He is not an ACC caliber big man, even for small minute stretches. Would rather create offensive mismatches with small ball and trying to zone your way on defense than going big man for big man and not gaining any advantage.
What about Nick Fullard? He's a big man that's redshirting this year. Is he eligible to play this season as a D-II transfer, or does he have to sit out the season regardless?
2016-17 season: Will sit out 2016-17 season due to transfer rules. Directly from his Hokiesports.com profile.
Thanks for the info. I wasn't sure if the sit-out rule for transfers applied to Division II and III guys or not. Since he's an alum of my high school, I was kinda hoping he might get to suit up and play once in a while. Looking at his stats from his previous school, it doesn't look like he's going to see the floor much unless there are a lot of injuries ahead of him on the depth chart, like we have now.
Can someone update on exactly what happened with Blackshear? Is this a complication from the off season corrective surgery? Learning to properly run on a foot that has been not right for years?
Stress Reaction in the opposite leg
This makes me nervous. Is this a in-retrospect-we-should-have-left-well-enough-alone kind of thing, or will this really heal up properly given time?
No, the surgery was needed so he could put his foot flat on the ground. The inability to do so was affecting him in several aspects, primarily in rebounding, because it took away power from his ability to go straight up, which could be seen when other bigs would essentially jump up and take a rebound over his head last year. Secondly, it affected his free throw shooting dramatically. I dont think I have ever seen something as ugly as Blackshear at the line with the one foot halfway flexed up and the other flat. It almost seem to give him a tilt. Last, it affects his form in any kind of jump shot, and while he may not take many of those here in the college game, if he has any pro aspirations (which he does) than he needs to be able to develop an eight to ten foot jumper. This gets back to Buzz' discussions on Tech Talk and other places about how he has to be a good steward, making sure that he does the right thing for the kid rather than the team as a whole.
Having a stress reaction isnt that unusual, especially considering how long Blackshear had operated with his leg that way. I imagine post surgery it affected almost every motion done by KJ with his lower legs, changing the way he walked, the length of stride, the pressure on each leg weight wise, among other things. Not really surprising then that his opposite side would have a stress reaction.
Its also not like this is the first time that we have had someone sit out a season so get used to Buzz taking every precaution with people that play for him.
Thanks. Appreciate the insight.
Man I feel for Blackshear but am excited for him to come back 100% next year. I think this year's squad has just enough talent to make it to the tourney and win a game or two. But next year getting back Blackshear and adding Alexander-Walker and Bede will make this team have a realistic shot at gettting to elite eight/final four!
Corey Evans, a basketball recruiting analyst at Rivals, can't say enough about NAW. Will he make us an elite 8 team? Who knows. It's just fun being associated with a player making waves nationally. And as much as it sucks, I'd rather they shut Blackshear down instead of possibly rushing him back. Get him healthy and ready for next season.
That's awesome, good pull.
I'm looking forward to those Rob-Hill-NAW-Clarke-KJB lineups next year steamrolling people.....and our fanbase forgetting to complain about our size.
Yep, I saw those tweets, and it certainly seems like Evans is all in on this kid's potential. "A+ offensive versatility" is exactly the kind of player we need with the program Buzz has built. Put someone like that on the court with a team that has the ability to play the swarming defense we are growing accustomed to, and we can do some serious damage in ACC play.
I also like having Blackshear redshirting. I think we have done enough with our OOC slate to get a tourney bid if we take care of business at home this year, so it really doesn't make much sense to rush him back if the coaches truly do feel like our goals are still legitimately attainable. Even better, it'll help force this team to learn how to win in ACC play without the help of a big, which should pay off down the line when Sy is able to bulk up and Blackshear is in again. We will be a better team for this.
Don't see a game thread for tonight's game yet, anyone know if Allen will be playing?
He's a game-time decision per whatever FanRag Sports is
