I nominate you to get the ball rolling. Is there a second?

"Exit light..."

Tried and was told they are not ready for that with so few Hokie Club members down here.

Go rogue.

which is completely counter intuitive because starting the drive down there would be a way to increase members down there

what exactly do you get from the Hokie Club that "helps" if you do start something there?

No idea. We have a chapter in Myrtle Beach proper but only because we have 3/4 high level donors and we used to have a golf tournament. But Charleston, Hilton Head and Savannah don't have a chapter and only a few members down there. They don't want to start more chapters that dont bring in more money or people. The odd thing about chapters is they are a separate "donor" each chapter sends money from the chapter itself to the Hokie Club, outside what the chapters members send in.

So they don't provide any materials or anything tangible to new Chapters? Do you get a lapel pin? A signed poster of Coach Fu to hang at meetings? an email address? anything?

Sounds like they have some internal politics with whoever is running the Myrtle Beach Chapter. Otherwise what is the barrier to having new chapters if the have no expense in starting or maintaining them?

Just as infuriating as the bullshit I constantly get from VT alumni office

They do provide support what that support is I don't know. The Myrtle Beach Chapter is great but really small and the turnover is high, people move away or die. Charleston has a large alumni group but few Hokie Club Members. I just want the ability to recruit new people. Handouts etc to give people info.

I've also tried pitching an idea where at the beginning of each sports season(fall, spring etc) an email is sent out to every Hokie Club Chapter and Alumni Chapter with customized game schedules for that area. So for example the ones for the SC area would include woman's ACC basketball tourment and ACC woman's golf tourney for this season.

Read your replies, as well as fernley's. I am curious who told you this. Not to name names or anything, but as fernley stated, is completely counterintuitive to what the current goals of HC are. Might be a situation where you move up to home base and get help.

As far as "perks," I understand under the old, now non-existent, points system, that a HC rep got more points for x amount of members. I have never been a rep. In my rural area, we are without a local HC chapter. One fundraiser I did attend, another rep joked that he was going to get the members without a chapter attributed to himself, and thus the points. I didn't feel right trying to pull in cash from our area with rough economic conditions.

Would be interested to hear from more of those involved with HC chapters in your area and rural areas.

Any TKPers going to this?

Is it for Hokie Club members only?

From the Bay State to Old Dominion. The coast of New England to the mountains of Appalachia. LETS GO...HOKIES!

nope, anyone can buy a ticket

That being the case, jmecca I am seriously considering it.
