I'm really impressed with the overall haul. We hit some needs, found gems ect. I'm going to start off with the two guys whose gamefilm jumps out at me.
1. Hendon Hooker
Raw arm talent BT can really sling it. Exceptional athleticism. For a 6"5 guy he has some wiggle to him. S/o to Franky B. From what it seems the offense his hs football team runs is very similar to fuente's offense. From his season accolades kid appears to be a Straight Gamer!
2. Sean Savoy aka Boogie!
This kid can be electric. I really see him doing the same things Clemson has artavis Scott does. I watched him camp and can't remember him losing one rep.
His change of direction is elite and makes cuts without losing any speed. I remember watching his film the first time and I said to myself. We have to get this guy! Well that caps it. Guys let me know who you all are most excited about coming in this years class.
Which statement17 commits are you guys most excited about???

Anybody that wants to be a Hokie!
I wish we could track the popularity of gifs, because this one has had a strong surge recently.
It's really strong in recruiting season. Wait till signing day, hype will be everywhere. Then when injuries start, invest in sad/rage/breaking keyboard gifs.
I'm just trying to popularize Lights gifs.
Try posting when completely unrelated in the recruiting threads. This will then start a fight and if she gets popular enough, you will eventually be told you are an imbecile for not preferring Emma Watson.
Can't we just love them all?
I think that one is too young.
I don't actually lol much, but I loled when I got to this.
Not that there's anything...wait actually there is something very wrong with it.
In order for us to nip the whole Lights is better than Emma debate all we need to do is say...."Pie is superior to cake"
Lights >>> Emma.
FTFY

I think they're both equally hot though
I've also thought for a while that TKP needs more Hannah Simone gifs

I like the way you think!
yes lawd
I would never EVER downvote a CeCe gif.
...yes, i have occasionally downvoted emma gifs....guilty
She could play my guitar all day everyday!
Some of her duets with her husband Beau in Blessthefall are unreal.
Open Water is amazing.
I've met her, and I am with you 100%
I'm used to the weird one with 3 mouths.
that makes me ill
I feel weird.
This makes me feel things
I'm feeling some sort of way.
Weird.

there it is
I'm going to copy write Logan's gif.
I use that gif everyday at work.
I know Gary Oldman is a great actor. But I don't believe he needs to try too hard to know how someone would act strung out and angry. Seems too natural at it.
when I saw the title of this thread this was the first thing that came to mind. And of course it is the first post. TKP never lets you down
Logan I'm with you brother, as I stated I was impressed with the overall haul.
If you follow recruiting closely (as I have done in previous years) you end up feeling like you're riding the emotional roller coaster after eating a big lunch. This year I've tried to relax a bit (because honestly I don't need any more stress in my life) and just enjoy what happens. Anybody that wants to be a Hokie, I'm happy that they chose us.
Someone was saying something about irrelavent posts?
I'm with Brit!
Alright, let me get this back on track, Capehart and Pimpleton are the combo that I am most excited to see come in the door. I don't know why, but they give me the Ford/Phillips vibe where they are going to be a hard working tandem that push each other the elevate their game. Pimpleton also exudes Hokie Pride and I love seeing those kind of guys on campus.
Side note: To those that complain about threads, add something of value. Your complaints are just more noise.
Why thank you my fellow hokie. The first response that was on topic. I thought this would turn into a really fun thread. BT from what it seems everyone well...most feel its irrelevant. We are brothers guys.
Zion DeBose from Salisbury, NC and the Big Green Nation! BGN!
Hopefully we land all of those already committed.
Im pretty excited about the group of:
Deiuliis 6-6
Keene 6-5
Farley 6-3
Im not sure where theyll end up but Im hoping theyll be big time mismatches on the field.
The way things are setting up. There could be mismatches allllll over the field. I really like what Farley brings to the table
Agreed, also Tajh Capehart. They are all playmakers. So interested to see how their game translates to college
As a Michigander I am super thrilled about Pimpleton coming to VT. My buddy lives in Muskegon and is hyped for us landing him.
I believe he is enrolling early as well.
Indeed, he is an early enrollee. I am really excited for Pimpleton too, and not just for eventual Hooker to Pimp connection. Fuente identified Pimpleton as a fit for Tech's offense when he wasn't even a blip on the radar of the recruiting services. I'm intrigued to see how Fuente's player evaluation plays out in this early instance. (Personally, I think he'll thrive in Fuente's scheme.)
Agree, Joe. I think players like Pimp and Holston are both great examples of players that we can use to evaluate FuCorn's eval/crootin' skills.
One thing that feels like has carried over from The Beamer Era is that both staffs seem very focused on getting their guys as opposed to "the" guy. I know part of that is our program's struggles to lure elite talent. But our reputation as a school that "coaches 'em up" seems like it will endure.
Pimp is going to be fun to watch that's for sure.
Caleb Farley has me all sorts of excited. His rushing highlights are unreal. He's surrounded by 5 guys and jukes his way out for a TD. If he has an impact at WR this offense could be explosive.
Pimpleton also looks like he could be really fun to watch at WR, too. Those two together could really stress out a defense. Break an ankle or two and they can house it.
And while this one is obvious because he's highly rated, Proctor could be a really interesting guy for Foster to move around. If he can put on some more muscle he could be a super athletic DE, but won't be completely bulldozed either.
Wow I had not seen that rushing Highlight - the Touchdown he scores around 2:10 is absolutely ridiculous.
Do we know if he is enrolling early?
I found a list of guys enrolling early on TSL: Caleb Farley, Kalil Pimpleton, Hendon Hooker, Silas Dzansi, Aundre Kearney, Dalton Keene and Terius Wheatley.
the opposing head coach around 1:20 is priceless. At first it appears that they have Caleb for a loss and he throws his hands in the air in celebration. Then a few jukes later and we see surrender cobra.
What level of competition is Farley playing against? I'm assuming it can't be any good. Otherwise he would be a high 4* guy.
I don't think his high school competition was at a very high level. But, 247 watched him at the SC/NC Shrine Bowl and regraded him to a 93 because he impressed them so much. Here are a few 247 articles on it: #1, #2, #3.
Thanks for this. Good reads.
He plays in the 2AA class in NC. Same kids Dax Hollifield plays against. Dax's team dominated in the state ship and is a perennial powerhouse however.
HOLY SHIT THAT KID CAN RUN.
After researching Caleb a bit more and watching his highlights, I can see why there is excitement there. Kid has jukes and field vision for days!
Also found this interesting little interview with him... and a couple guys he predicts that we land this recruiting class. Whaaaaa?!? Hope he knows something we don't and is right!
That was from a little while ago. But maybe DJ Matthews was much closer to flipping than it seemed. Maybe he wasn't really trolling....

First time seeing his highlights. Wow.
/Thread.
I'm glad he takes his identity protection seriously by covering up his student ID # when posting a picture online.

Glad to see the Hokie P hasn't changed a lick since 2007.
How else do we recent grads ride the buses around when we go back to Blacksburg?
Already my favorite. We share a birthday. Albeit 13 years apart
So when should we expect the invitations to Chuck-E-Cheese for your 6th birthday party?
HOLY CRAP, THAT IS HIS BIRTHDAY.
1998.
Wow.
Give me a second.
God thats when I started college
Soon recruits will born in the new millennium
Dzansi and Proctor
Dzansi is a close second for me. I don't understand the line game as well as a lot of other TKPers but seeing that we are attracting someone who can ball out makes me want to see what O-Line development is going to look like.
Dalton "son of Sam" Keene
Devon Hunter
Yes, yes, let the positivity flow through you. I think Hunter could bring a boom to our secondary like we haven't seen in a while.
I think the train stays on the track this year.
I love how it cuts to UVA colors when everything goes to shit.
That was the first thing I noticed. Awesome.
I legit thought it was a gif mocking UVA football but then no works popped up. Oh well
If you have access to SiriusXM on demand, Tom Luginbill was on The First Team and took a call about VT (during 8-8:30 segments).
Talked quite a bit about the style of player CJF is recruiting for offense...without regard for size or frame, he is recruiting for speed. There are some *small* guys coming in at the skill spots, but burners that can catch and make plays.
I'm interested most I think in Hooker's development and chemistry with some of the older players (what we have left) that will have been around the program a couple of years.
Hi speed expert here, I can attest the players Fuente is going after are indeed 'fast'.
Kalil Pimpleton - Eddie Royal 2.0
Eddie was a bit taller than 5'7, but not much.
That would be some 'high' praise and a 'tall' order to fill, but Eddie is one of my all-time favs, so I'm for it.
I'm looking forward to Lawson's RS-So year now that he'd had a year of tutelage under Fuente. He was so busy studying that you didn't even see him on the sideline this year.
Im just worried he will transfer if he doesnt beat out Jackson in the spring.
Wow. Downvoting Lawson jokes.
2017 is off too a rough start.
Can we get a OT: poll thread voting if we are for/against these jokes?
That's what legs are for.
via GIPHY
Are they? I'm pretty sure "I don't find that funny" falls under "just don't vote."
I don't downvote Lawson/Harris jokes but do find them irritating. They significantly degrade the S/N ratio of a lot of threads. I see a new comment in some random thread, then find that it's the same Lawson-will-transfer joke that's been made ~837,526 times before, and then I get cranky. The down vote urge is then strong.
Personally, I can see an argument for downvoting because of:
Some people obviously consider Lawson/Harris jokes and other things to just be noise. Personally, I don't think they rise to the level of complete spam, because they are at least an effort to engage in the TKP community. Not everyone has a great sense of timing, and not everyone posts frequently or reads everything to understand that something may be played out. So some people are genuinely trying to be funny and not trying to just junk up threads with stupid shit. More and more, each of these posts is met with several posts bemoaning the fact that they exist, which are just as much noise as the original, single post. It's probably better for all involved to just scroll on.
Do I think the humor in Lawson and Harris jokes is basically burnt out? Yep, sure do. But I don't necessarily think that people should be punished for trying to be funny in a non-offensive manner. I reserve downvotes (though I am a bit more judicious with mine because they hurt a LOT) for flaming, trolling, unnecessary vitriol, and anything that is objectively inappropriate for this forum. Others can do as they wish and reflect the prevailing sentiment of the community. This is the beauty of community moderation; if there is sufficient impetus to affect change, it will happen.
I love having a good laugh. Thank you.
Lecitus Smith's film is fun to watch. He hands out pancakes with a nasty attitude.
I'm not sure if he will end up as blocking TE or OL, but if you like watching dominant blocking clips give him a look.
He is definitely a guy that will maul whoever is in front of him. I liked his film very strong at the point of attack.
It would be easy to look at the higher ranked guys and hope they fill their potential and rankings, but for me it is any of the 3* guys that might have been overlooked.
I also get excited when some lower ranked prospect blossoms into a star at VT, gets the fans behind him.
Who is the next people's champ (a la Sam Rogers or Cody Grimm).
Cody Grimm is the peoples champ but Sam....Sam is a superhero
Augie Conte quietly had a solid career with the good guys. He won't get accolades like Sam or Cody, and alas he's had a bad game or 2, but only us and lolUVA were interested in him, and he came out a D1 starter. Got a scholarship out of nowhere by having a great camp.
Luther Maddy is another great example of this IMO. Dude was a 2 star recruit who only really hit our radar because he was in high school with Dadi Nicolas. We also only really offered him because we missed damn near everyone we wanted in the 2011 class. While at Tech he ended up getting All-ACC honors I believe in multiple seasons and was a mainstay on the dline for us.
I'm not sure which back might fit the bill, but it seems we have not had the right fit at RB for Fuente. Hits a hole hard, breaks tackles, has break away speed, and can block and catch. Rogersesque attitude with dragon speed. I'll be thrilled if we find one, and even more so if a current back can step up too.
Doesn't this describe just a good back, not necessarily just for Fuente's system? Are these things specific to Fuente? And if they aren't, what specifically is he looking for?
Ha yeah KVille, you're kind of describing Thurman Thomas.
It looks like FuCorn value speed above all else. I have a feeling we will gravitate toward smaller, faster backs that can catch the ball. I think McClease is the back to watch this spring. & I think Holston could come in and push hard to play immediately because he's most similar to McClease skill set-wise. Oh, and: could Henri Murphy be an interesting option? ++ speed, good hands, seems like a tough kid - and things are gonna be pretty crowded in the receivers' room. Gotta find a way to get speed like that on the field...
I also have a gut feeling we're going to lose another RB to attrition. I'd call a lot of our current running backs "not great fits" for the FuCorn system. Big bangers have their place in short-yardage situations and as a change of pace, but can you keep guys like Peoples, Reid, Marshawn happy with 3-5 carries? (Anyone got a book on Fox? I have literally no idea about him.)
And then there's The Dragon. Hasn't really looked comfortable under FuCorn. Not a patient, shifty back. He's a home run hitter in terms of downhill speed and has premium size, but our blocking schemes (and the linemen trying to execute them) favor backs with more quickness/athleticism than I've seen from T-Mac.
Considering Peoples was an invited walk on I think he has about as much of a role as one would have hoped for. I think he had a lot of same qualities and potential as Rogers and I'm thrilled to have him but don't think he expects to be a feature back type.
I wish there was some rational reason why we could reverse the order. FuCorn sounds like a variation on FUBAR, while CornFu makes me think of Chuck Norris.
That signature for the cornfu brew label could be better done or at least smaller so it doesn't look like some teenager got a hold of it...
Based on our use of Peoples and Rogers, and a write-up from French on how Fu used the RB at Memphis, I think he is looking for more of fullback hybrid. He would not be playing them as much if speed were the main priority. I think blocking and running hard through tackles are more important then speed, but with speed and a little more athleticism the running game would open up more. Using the walk-ons leads me to believe we did not have a highly recruited/physically gifted player on the roster that fit what he want, and I think it hurt the offense and increased the physical running the QB had to do in short yardage. From what Holston has said about his recruitment I'm hoping he can be that guy, or we will get someone else that can be.
He would not be playing them as much if speed were the main priority.
CJF was cooking with Frank's/Lefty's groceries. He had no other options this season. The player I'm talking about CJF wanting to utilize wasn't available to him. McClease was hurt, who knows what was up w Shai - but all the other guys in that room just aren't FuCorn's guys. The guys we have coming this season? Holston? Pimp? Savoy? Hopefully Newsome? Those are the guys. CJF got Henri Murphy and look how he contributed down the stretch. Speed, speed, speed.
Absolutely no disrespect to Sam and Peoples - but in Fuente's dreams of this offense, it is being run by quicker, faster players.
He likes speed for his receivers, but watch any of his Memphis teams. He doesn't care about speed at rb
I'm talking quickness. Ability to make guys miss. Sproles types. David Wilson comes to mind.
I agree a quicker faster version of Rogers or Peoples, but I don't know which of the guys you listed have the ability to clear people out blocking or power run through tackles up the middle I think he is looking for - maybe Holston - but he seems to utilize the undersize guys out wide rather than in the RB position, which I think rules out a lot of the WR recruits we are looking at.
Not suggesting that any of our wide receivers (aside from Murphy, but that's just an idea I had) are an answer at RB. I just know that we don't have a Cook/Fournette guy, so we'll be attacking the running game with a variety of backs. We'll probably start with T-Mac. McClease is the scat-back type. Those two plus Peoples can all catch the ball. Short yardage situations call for the bangers: Marshawn (if he's healthy) or DJ Reid (if he's given a chance). Then we have Fox, and Holston (who may or may not redshirt).
In general, last year's RBs were not great blockers. (Ironically, I recall Shai being a pretty good blocker.) Never seen McClease or Holston block, so I can't speak to that aspect of their games - but that whole group needs to improve in that aspect...
