Not sure who else this applies to, but here in Raleigh we've gotten screwed over the past 2 weekends with games that were supposed to be airing on the ACC Network, and not only have the channels who were supposed to be airing the game passed, but the game was still blacked out for online streaming. Watch ESPN is out, and the ACC.com locked down their stream for games that are not on television in the home market of the conference.
Come the f on. Raycom, get your shit together already. Last week, we were blacked out despite none of the networks in the area scheduled to air the game, and today, the three channels that are scheduled to air the game are all airing either NFL pregame or Premier League soccer postgame. Pure garbage coverage for the best basketball conference in the country.

THANK YOU! Absolute BS. I'm in Norfolk and can't get it on either option.
I feel as if this is the wrong place to rant about this. I come across the same problems, but ranting about it on this platform is the wrong way to go about it. Maybe if we all go to RaycomHQ with pitchforks and torches things may change. It's all about the bottom line
CBS has it on in Richmond WTVR. If they don't show it here, CW does. I have comcast.
I live about 40 minutes outside of Blacksburg and can't watch the game on TV. Pretty comical. Stuck watching it through the ACC sports app on my phone
That's how I'm getting it done
Thank you!
The rant makes me feel a little better because I'm in the same boat. I'm not sure who to be mad at, ACC Network, Raycom, DirectTV, WRAL, WatchESPN, Pat Narduzzi. Fuck em all.
Great GIF. One of my favorite shows!
last season coming
I'd go WRAL. They pull this crap all the time. It's a wonder they are still in business.
The game Wednesday against GIT was on NESN, MSG, CSN-plus (Atlantic), and FoxSports South on DirecTV, for what it's worth.
Personally, I blame Pat Narduzzi, ACC Network, Raycom, WatchESPN, "Trips" Allen, and Pat Narduzzi when I can't find it.
Just making a comment Alum07, don't take what I said to heart. I didn't realize how much clout you have on this site. Feel like I just backhanded the VP without even knowing he's the VP. Hahaha
Lol it's all good. Giving me hell on here is perfectly acceptable and actively encouraged, especially in the offseason.
The dog on the doghouse gets me every damn time.
Nah, we welcome every opportunity to put alum07 in his place.
IT WORKS ON THE ACC SPORTS APP ON IPAD!!
Even if you pick the game up, the scoreboard isn't even centered in the screen and there's a massive gap between it and the bottom of the screen. Commentators are all over Notre Dame. Top that off with god awful camera angles from the sideline and the ACC Network is a steaming pile of shit today.
Didn't notice the off center but since you pointed it out, I can't stop looking at it. Thanks!
The sideline view was some hot garbage. You couldn't see any of the plays develop or the whole half of the court. They didn't just quickly go to it and move back to the normal view (like normal broadcasts), they kept it for multiple consecutive trips down the court.
I thought it was kinda cool actually. It was more like being there.
I could appreciate it more if I was able to have peripheral views and see all the players. I could never tell who was in the corners/whether someone was open or even there. It gave me a bit of anxiety as I actually found myself moving my head sitting on the couch trying to look around the corners.
Just switched to Roku and cut the cord last week. I have the same problem streaming. Blacked out when via ACC network. I streamed the national championship game on ESPN and it looked like reception from the 1960s too. I guess Roku is going to take some patience and getting used to until the technology and legal agreements catch up.
In Greenville, Nc so I was blacked out too. Thanks for the heads up on acc app. I'll use next time.
The ACC Network:
Hey if you did not see it that's OK. Got their butts kicked, came back to tie several times like the FB team then got a case of the DAs. Unlike the FB team!
Doesn't matter... Little Swofford has a job. That's all that counts.
I think the criticism is fair, but this is the first year that I've been able to see all of VT's football and basketball games (mostly on ESPN), even if I had some inexplicable difficulty in finding them at times, when the cable channel guide said they'd be on one channel, and they turned up somewhere else.
It's not perfect, but it's working for me to some degree.
Edit: Oh, I forgot about the one game I had to watch on ACC.com from a hotel room. The video quality of that game was terrible. For what it's worth.
They're probably mailing it in since ESPN is taking over for the ACC in 2019.
And I can't fucking wait. The ACC network is ridiculous.
Hey ACC Network,
Definitely one of the most underrated shows at the moment.
I personally don't have a problem with the acc network. For me, it is the only way I can watch VT games without going through some shady website and I am absolutely thrilled that they allow international viewers. I have never had a problem with the quality as it always appears to be in Hd and only very rarely does the video skip.
Sure, some angles suck and the play by play isn't the best but that is to be expected on an online format.
As far as blackouts, that seems to me that it's more of a problem with your cable company and not so much the acc network. I am sure that they, under contract, have to black out certain games and it's up to whatever cable company you have to air them.
Off topic, but speaking of the ACC... does anyone know when the schedule will be released? Looks like B12, B10 and SEC schedules have been released. ACC and P12 are TBD.
Honestly my expectations are the day before football season starts and any time before that is a bonus. The ACC is the worst scheduling conference out there.
The last few years it has been the last week of January so it shouldn't be too long.
The first month of the season is already set and available on hokiesports:
9/2 WVU @FedEx
9/9 Delaware
9/16 @ECU
9/23 ODU
Good thing is the rest of our home games will be in more favorable football weather. Would love to have Clemson on Thursday night.
Disagree. I want Clemson on a Saturday. If we hold up our end of the deal, this matchup has GameDay and a 8pm kickoff written all over it.
Gameday hasn't shown us any love in a long time. I'm kind of over it. #Gameday4Frank
I don't see us getting up in the polls (media attention) enough to warrant a Saturday night broadcast. That's just me.
We haven't deserved any love in a long time. Lets be real here, before this past season we were a .500 team for 3 years. Even when we were good, we rarely had an opportunity where we played a good team that would warrant a GameDay appearance because the ACC was legitimately weak, and our out of conference games were either against lesser opponents or at a neutral site on the opening weekend, where GameDay usually splits it up. #GameDay4Frank never had a serious chance of happening because, to put it bluntly, we were an irrelevant program just trying to claw its way to bowl eligibility at the time, and there were actual top matchups happening.
However, that has changed. We finished the year #16, made a ton of noise in the conference, and put up one hell of a fight against the eventual national champion in the ACC title game. We open with WVU, who should start the season ranked, and should we win that game, depending on how the ACC schedules next year, we could see an undefeated ranked (Top 15-20, depending on where we are in the preseason) Virginia Tech hosting undefeated Top 5 National Champion Clemson. That matchup more than warrants GameDay.
Gameday was at Bristol. Seems like a long time ago, I guess.
That was a given. In Blacksburg, different story.
If the game is early enough in the season and both teams have fewer than two losses combined, it could happen. Defending national champion vs. a team that took them to the wire in the conference championship game?
Looking at the schedules for both (at what is actually listed on respective sites), it looks like Clemson game will be in October or the first two weeks of November. I smell Thursday night.
Clemson vs FSU, Louisville, Auburn, USCe will all likely be nationally televised. I'd guess that all those will be primetime. I would love to get a national primetime spot, but we would have to be undefeated. With our weak September schedule (Fuente has turned corner for ECU), I am not sure how much we would move up to garner attention. And now I have the desire to see us drop 60 on the cousins. We need a huge WVU win and a win at that stadium, ugh.
#GameDayforFrank was a movement and a dedication. And personally, I felt Chris Fowler was classy as hell for making a personal statement acknowledging the movement and explaining why GameDay would be going elsewhere.
Same. They didn't have to respond at all.
Soon we will see...
Never trust the non conference schedule in advance. Most of those are just placeholder dates. Sometimes the ACC (or ESPN) does like to get conference games in September, which results in some of the OOC games moving around a bit. The only one that we can count on for sure is the first one at FedEx.
The first month of the season is already set and available on hokiesports:
9/2 WVU @FedEx OK
9/9 Delaware Really?
9/16 @ECU Fuck ecu
9/23 ODU Bullshit
Playing odu and ecu every season is the worst decision whit has made. Terrible teams for long-term contracts
I've long maintained that they should be competing for the same spot in the schedule, along with others.
We shouldn't be playing both of these in the same year.
Especially when we have Delaware on the schedule too
wasn't weaver the one who made the ecu schedules and possibly also odu?
and i think if they were played on alternate years it would be a good set up but it's not great that we play both of them in the same season multple times; 2018 and 2019 are bad years for our OOC schedule, though admittedly the rest of the years are strong
Yes, both started under Weaver. I just checked, and the four game extension with ODU was added under his watch. But I'm pretty sure Whit signed the deal to play ECU in 2022-2025.
I was legit laughing out loud during the Notre Dame game every time Bobby Cremins was like, "We gotta see a replay of that," and the production team just straight up ignored him every time.
I'm not normally that critical of this type of stuff, but I thought it was so minor league for them to have no replay of some critical moments in the last few minutes of the game. Plus, it made one of their commentators look like a moron for asking for it multiple times and having nothing to show.
Just an additional reason I'm not #goacc
/has anyone called the local TV stations in Raleigh to ask WTF was going on?
In the future, what I always do is download a chrome VPN extention like "Touch VPN". I set it to United States and presto, I can use watch espn or the acc networks website to see the games. It's annoying but It works.
Another day, another game blacked out on ESPN's platforms yet unavailable on any of the dozen cable channels currently broadcasting games in my area.
Not that I don't know how to find an alternate stream, I just can't believe how incredibly shitty the ACC's "coverage" has gotten. What a clusterfuck.
It's insane. It's 2017. I pay to consume your content ACC, why can't I watch my team tonight?
Blacked out on watchESPN tonight, local affiliate network opted to show modern family instead. ACC as a whole is probably useless, is there anyone within our own athletic department that we can put some pressure on?
It's on Fox Sports here. Maybe try a network like that?
Posted this in another thread, but I'll copy it here as it applies.
I know there is a lot of talk about being unable to watch it, but I think the issue is that it isn't being communicated properly what this whole new "ACC Network" is right now.
There's a difference between games under the ESPN umbrella and the RSN umbrella. ESPN keeps the rights to bigger games, and then sells the lower tier games to the RSNs. For example, tonight's game was on the RSN's, whatever they may be for your area, for me living in Los Angeles it was Fox Sports West. If your cable package or SlingTV or whatever you use doesn't haven't the package that includes the RSNs then you're not going to be able to watch the game. You cannot skirt that with the WatchESPN app, because at that point, ESPN doesn't have those exclusive rights. The WatchESPN is another outlet if your cable subscription has the RSNs. These games won't be on your local Raycom/ACC Network affiliates like the CW or My20 or whatever they may be.
When it says "ACC Network" such as the UVA game, that means it's with Raycom and you'll find them on your ACC Network listed channels. I believe that if you're preempted here or out of market (like in Raleigh and an NCSU game is on or something) then you can find the stream of the game on the ACC webstie.
It's all very confusing and poorly communicated. I believe the linear network with get rid of that. No longer will the RSNs have secondary rights, ESPN will just bump those games to the linear network and then exclusive on WatchESPN.
At least that is my understanding of these rights as they were explained to me about a year ago.
Was able to watch GT game on WatchESPN here in VA...and it said Fox Sports West in the corner, so funny you should mention that. Was not on local cable.
What part of VA? Nobody in Roanoke and surrounding areas that I know of was able to watch the game on TV or WatchESPN.
It should have been on CSNMA-plus
It wasn't. And I spoke with several friends in Roanoke and surrounding areas. We all have different cable packages with different companies and nothing.
O hey look EVERY OTHER P5 conference has their schedule out. ACC, NOOOPPPEEEEE.
This may be unpopular but I like when it's released. Breaks up some offseason monotony. Gives us some football related discussion between the NCG and spring ball.
Yeah, but some of us need to plan vacation time around the schedule, and that can get cutthroat if it's first come, first serve.
Yep wife is trying to make our calendar for the year, shutterfly coupons FYI are out, and we can't because no Tech football schedule.
Yeah I can see where that's an issue. I'm lucky to work a job where I can take a day on a moment's notice. Still, more than six months out should be plenty of time for most.
Vacations requests have to be in 12 months in advance or they are not guaranteed.
So there is no way for you to ever be sure of what you're getting unless the next year's schedule is released prior to the current season being played?
Which is what BIG and SEC does.
SEC released their scheduling in the middle of football season, so that would only help you for like two or three games wouldn't it?
EDIT: Actually this year they released it on January 4th. We're not that far behind then.
http://www.cbssports.com/college-football/news/2017-sec-football-schedul...
Released Sept 14th 2016.
I can't open that at work but this is what I saw, http://www.secsports.com/article/17538190/sec-releases-2017-football-sch...
A request put in 6 months prior will have an answer within a week, 3 months prior answer within 2 weeks less than that and you have to make sure shift is covered by someone and minimum staffing levels are met. This is for not only my job by my wife's call schedule at the hospitals also.
See, to me that's just entirely unreasonable. I don't know how common this is in the workplace, but I can go in my boss's office today and say I'm going on vacation for a week and it be okay. I don't think I've ever planned a vacation that far in advance. I don't even know where I'm going this year.
Point is, I think it's unreasonable to expect the ACC to release the schedule before the preceding season. And honestly, it's not their job to cater to our personal lives.
Wait it's not the conferences job to cater to their fans? Swofford is that you?
Not the unreasonable ones.
12 months in advance is not reasonable. Hell, some of the matchups aren't even in place 12 months out.
How about released in Dec even. BIG 12, BIG and SEC all are done by then why not ACC? Hell the Big Ten does it years in advance.
No, it is not their job to release their schedule so you have enough time to ask off. This may come as a shock to you, but the schedule is meant to create drama and viewership across the ACC. The ACC doesn't get a lot of things right, but the SEC released their schedule on January 4th, the Pac 12 released there's on Wednesday. We're not that far off.
False SEC released theirs in Sept.
See above.
Right CBS had the SEC schedule of dates done in Sept.
Weird. I was going off the SEC's website. Sorry about that.
Either way, I have a hard time getting angry at the ACC for this.
I already have 2 freakin wedding invites for football weekends this fall. I need to know how angry I need to be at some of my "friends" for this. I mean ECU and ODU weekends? Not that big a deal, I'll let it slide, but I won't be happy about it. Clemson weekend?
Fall weddings have gotten ridiculously popular in the past three or four years. You used to hardly see them now it seems like it's all my wife and I shoot.
Or at least wait til the schedules are out and ensure the wedding is on a BYE week.
