Virginia Tech added its fourth commitment in as many days to its 2017 recruiting class after Robert Porcher IV opted for the Hokies Monday evening. The one-time Nebraska verbal commit opened up his recruitment on December 12 and picked Tech over Michigan State and Georgia Tech.

The 6-3, 245 pound Dr. Phillips HS (Orlando, FL) defensive line product was in Blacksburg this past weekend for an official visit.
"My family liked it, it's closer to home and I like how I fit in with the defense," Porcher told Scout.
The 247Sports Composite rates Porcher as a 3-star prospect.

The kid in the picture makes me think he is very scary to play against.
Keeping it lit!!!!
That is also a ballin' photo of him!
Hope he is as good as his dad was.
*plays hip hop air horn noises repeatedly.
Hype overload, engaged! Momentum is great.
Porcher had 35 offers. Incredible get for Fuente & Co.
Granted, only about half of those are P5 offers. But 17 P5 offers = quality. And some of those P5 offers are fromother big programs like Michigan State and Nebraska.
Getting Porcher is great get, and fills a need for sure. He's listed as a 3* player, but must be a high 3*, with all those offers. Plus, he's probably played against some rigorous HS competition, and he's got the genes to be a good one.
Here's a question I have about our recruiting class - I think all of our recruits had other P5 offers except for Derrisaw (and maybe Oscar), and even his other offers were from some lowly FCS teams. I don't mean to pick on him or anyone in our recruiting class, but what gives? Does this guy have some hidden skills that only we are aware of, perhaps a closet long snapper? He's got great size, and maybe he's a diamond in the rough, but still don't understand why we were the only FBS team to offer him.
Some kids develop late, don't play great competition, have an injury their junior/senior year, don't go to camps, etc. Multitude of reasons why a kid wouldn't be offered. Generally speaking, more offers = more talented, but there are exceptions. Build the program on kids who were offered by a lot of schools and throw in some guys you like even if they've been overlooked for whatever reason. That's what Clemson did to win a national title.
Dadi and Big Lu didn't have offers and they turned out ok. Given VT's history with preferred walk ons and low 3*/2* players that no one else wanted, I'm always intrigued about these guys. We seem to have at least 1 every year that gets all conf honors if not AA honors. Cody Grimm, Orion Martin and Sam are classic examples.
Not to be contrary but both had other offers. Maddy had western Michigan and wedley estime (dadi) had 5 offers including Kansas, western Michigan, florida atlantic and Minnesota.
Seeing that Silas Dzanzi offer turn into a 4-star pick up is a great example of how OL can be under recruited for a variety of reasons
He was recently downrated to a 3 star.
By whom?
24/7 shows he is a composite 3*
Hasn't he always been a composite 3* and only sites that revaluation him from prep have him higher?
they did not have any other sites registered for him for some reason so he was also just counted as a 4* due to 247's rankings. being a low to mid 3 star is accurate. Kid has a good frame but has only played football a few years. Could end up being a gem or just a project. Will see what Vice can do.
What an offer list. Great to get him on the team.
The kid can play. Think John Graves with more ability to redirect and flatten down the line when needed. He will need to get bigger to be an every down defensive tackle, and he will have every opportunity to be the next in a line of undersized disruptive defensive tackles.
"John Graves with more ability to redirect and flatten down the line" - that sounds pretty awesome. Comparison to Woody Baron?
Very similar, although Woody was even quicker going flat down the line and Woody didn't have the frame to add as much weight as Porcher does. Porcher can play comfortably around 280ish. If you believe Woody really was 275 this year, I will sell you a bridge in Death Valley.
Would playing as a small quick defensive tackle at Tech translate to a career as a 3-4 NFL defensive end?
Yep- except for Baron, who I imagine will try to be a DE or an OLB if he can play with his hand off the ground.
Do you think Porcher can swing between both DE and DT?
How much are you asking for this bridge?
Watching his film and the way he gets after it reminds of Derrick Nnadi.
I don't usually watch recruits' film, but I watched some of his highlights and at around 1:40 he straight breaks a quarterback in half. I'm excited for this young man.

Accidental Renaissance?
Yet another super commit. Welcome aboard the Hokie train Robert!
Porcher: 6'3" WDE from Florida
Dadi: 6'3" WDE from Florida
Tech recruiting staff walking into Merryman.
It's nice to put a Porcher in the garage. Welcome home!
Even better to have a Porcher by the Rivers. Makes it easy to see the Hunter.
Hell yea. Let's hope the Porcher can help us pick up Speed. It'd be nice to have a Garbutt in the seat next to the Hunter.
I'm Keene to see Hunter Glaze past the opposing OL with such Speed that I exclaim "Watts that! He knocked that QB so hard onto his garBUTT I felt it from this FARley away." while watching tv on my Porcher next to the Rivers.
A little corny but a leg for the solid effort.
Whatcha talkin bout Willis? I'm surpised that you aren't taking the Porcher to pick up a Hooker. I guess we all can't be PIMPletons.
Hookers and PIMPelton's aren't my style. I'm a straight up Proctor of Bush without the need to pay for it. take that to capeHART.
You really Motuapuaka'd that one.
Wat, son? Emma give you a little leg.
Wowza.
Did she grow boobs?
i love it...i see that we have the names now to make a whole paragraph...we are on our way
Porcher attracts Hookers.
So like Dorian but more?
*Porch joke.
Quantifiably 4X more Porch, I'd say.
Frankly, I can't recall ever feeling this much excitement and momentum around the Hokies recruiting.
Amazing what having an actual offense can do for your program, even in terms of bringing higher end D recruits.
Any chance he plays DE?
Or QB?
Damn dude, we are KILLING IT
What has me excited with Porcher and targets like Debose and Dimukeje is that they are are refined players who have skillsets that fit the role they will be asked to play and are well practiced in executing those skills, instead of recruiting athletes and trying to teach them how to play from scratch. That strategy paid off huge immediate dividends with Isaiah Ford and Cam Phillips, and I hope to see it pay off at other positions.
Wait so we won't be moving them to offensive line? /s
It's always a big get when you have the son of a player come to your program. Not saying he's going to end up being as good as his dad, but the apple doesn't fall far from the tree in a lot of cases. And in this case, the tree was a gigantic DE talent.
Dell Curry would like a word...
Aha the pain on Greenberg's face during free throw attempts
The feeling of horror watching your team shoot free throws? John Mulaney knows your pain. Relevant part starts at 1:20.
Bruce Smith has no comment
So 247 article said Fuente was set to visit a top target today and boom, we get this commit. Who's Fuente visiting tomorrow?
Thought I saw he was visiting Garbutt today, so, maybe he gets a day off.
Fuente was supposedly headed to see Garbutt twitterverse says.
Porcher committed over the weekend. They just announced it today
Fuente was in to see Garbutt today. Then swung my Rivers' house as well.
Was this the commit BAG or Alum had in mind?
I know very little about Porcher but everything here seems to suggest he will put on weight and be a great fit inside. This is also the thought with Dimukeje, right?
Yes- both have frames to play at 275-280- long guys.
Recruits with NFL fathers seems to be a theme this year's class.
WELCOME TO HOKIE NATION!
That's too glorious for words.

COME HELP US GREET PEOPLE TO BLACKSBURG.....LPD
I remember watching that from relatively close and thinking the receiver must have a bad concussion. In other words... BOOM!
Orlando Sentinel article about Porcher's commitment
Did I miss something.
The fact that Orlando newspapers are unfamiliar with the Hokies and therefore make mistakes and/or rely on outdated information?
They also spelled it Fuentes
I like that his dad is a former 3x All-Pro. But I really like that the Detroit Lions give a player award each year called The Robert Porcher Man Of The Year.
Oh, and? This kid can ball. I'm so fucking excited, you guys.

So you guys can't seriously think this all just a coincidence right! Our main guy is playing chess while others play checkers.
Planned out to the last detail! Saving some good stuff for later is my feeling.
Oh how did you like that graphic!

I mean, plenty of others coaches are recruiting dons as well...
huh
Plenty of other coaches are recruiting studs as well.
Oh. Well in that case, are you mad?
Yeah man, Beal is in a total slump and we keep giving up 4th quarter leads. It's frustrating.
The one on your post???.....ummm I mean....I uhh....ahem
Can't....stop...watching....
Oh you mean in Porchers tweet??? Oh...yeah...love it.
WHY DID THEY HAVE TO KILL HER OFF
Its a Granny Smith!
I vote that you make this gif part of your signature on every post
So did they plan a one a day for this week? Cuz I'd be okay with that type of power move
I am waiting on my last #sause commitment that I know of other then that I am not sure. I know some of this has been planned. Wouldn't be shocked if all of it is planned
So is that the same one from the weekend that you were waiting on, or was Porcher one of them too?
Same one from the weekend. If nothing else I'm learning patience
So BAG, I'm guessing it's Becton since we got all those CBs for him last weekend?
I believe he said it was Garbutt in his commitment thread.
Ah, that's how I know her... The shirt keeps fooling me.
and Bronco is eating his checkers
Bronco is playing "Go Fish"!!
But, hopefully we'll be the ones to reel in Becton.
Porcher?
I hardly know her!
Let's hope he spends a lot of time on opponent's back Porch
I have no idea what this is, but I like it.
Wrasslin'!
Fuente and his staff out here recruiting like....
I wish I could prepare a steak as sensually as Salt Bae.
