OT: Best Pregame Bar/Food in Chapel Hill

Was hoping to post this one in the game thread, but I'll prob be on the road once it goes up.

Any TKPers around the triangle have some recommendations for me as to the best place in Chapel Hill for some pregame grub and brews? I'm meeting a friend just outside of Raleigh and riding over to the game tonight. Probably just gonna go to one place since we won't have much time, but looking for options.

When I was visiting UNC, my dad and I went onto Franklin St. and found a great restaurant. Also looked like there were plenty of bars as well

Franklin Street is great. The brewery was fantastic. Allen and Son barbecue is also amazing. Time-out chicken biscuits are almost a must especially after the game.

brewery....[NC] barbecue....chicken biscuits

I can't second Allen & Son enough. Legit Eastern NC BBQ (Team Vinegar Sauce ftw) and super cheap. Go get a sandwich with hushpuppies and coleslaw and then just park off Franklin Street and find a bar to pregame at.

$$ PRETTY SURE THEY'RE CASH ONLY THOUGH, FYI $$

3rd on Allen & Sons. It's really fantastic example of NC vinegar based bbq. It is definitely cash only. It's out of the way but well worth the trip.

I've gone once or twice only to realize they were closed, so call ahead.

As for Franklin st, Carolina Brewery and Top of the Hill Brewery are both good options for local craft brews.

I was gonna add, it has been closed like 50% of the time I've made it down there. Definitely call ahead to make sure they are open. Their listed hours are not always correct.

Carolina Brewery is on Franklin and has a great craft selection and pretty good food as well

If you want Tacos/Burritos Armadillo Grill

For craft beer and the Chapel Hill experience Top of the Hill.

I second Armadillo Grill. It is in Carrboro, but that's not really far at all.

Carboro, which is on the Western End of Franklin St., has a lot of great food and breweries. It's usually less crowded as well.

Go Hokies

My buddies from UNC always ragged on Carboro as the werid hippy town.

I never realized what they meant until i saw a bunch of grungy looking, homeless smelling, dreadlocked hippies with their instruments and street pets strolling up Franklin, coming from Carboro. I watched them pulling food out of the trash, pizza crusts and cold mcdonalds fries. They were scraping leftovers off the abandoned plates at restaurants with outdoor seating before the busboys had a chance to clean them off.

It all made for a weird gameday experience. I was pretty hammered, trying to get a slice of Pizza and making small talk with trash eating hippies. Can't get that experience in Blacksburg.

Weird part is, this is their chosen lifestyle.

Lol that is awesome. Thanks for sharing.

It amuses me how Carrboro and Chapel Hill are seen as distinct entities. They're like 50 ft apart.

Yeah I find that to be odd as well.

As a Subaru driving Carrboro resident I take... no offense to this.

So that makes you...The Carrboro Man?

Have fun man!

I will be posted up at tobacco road sports cafe right off of 54. You can catch the shuttle that runs from 54 nearby and beats parking by the arena.

Didn't know there were two of these. I've been to the one above the Durham Bull's stadium a few times. That is a neat venue to catch a meaningless triple-a game and slug a few beers.

Did you find a post game place to drink heavily?

Indeed. A nice gas station with a wide selection of Light/Lite American lagers. All of which were consumed at my friend's place between the hours of 12AM and 330
