Blue-chip commits and marquee flips have kept Virginia Tech scalding hot on the recruiting trail. The Hokies pushed their efforts closer to eleven when they bucked the trend and re-secured the commitment of athletic 4-star defensive end Tyjuan Garbutt.

The 6-3, 215 pound Riverbend HS product originally committed to the Hokies on February 6, 2016, but opened up his recruitment on July 6. Pittsburgh provided the primary competition for Garbutt's services down the stretch.
"I committed again for the same reason I committed a little less than a year ago," Garbutt told The Free-Lance Star. "Coach Fuente, [Defensive coordinator Bud Foster], they're rebuilding. Virginia Tech was once a national power and I think they're getting back to that level."

All depends on whether we can close on Brad Johnson and Wardlow. Mentioned in another thread, but I'd love to see Garbutt on offense, Proctor at backer, and Porcher to put on some weight and move inside to DT. All of that could be on the table if we can find a way to get at least one more DE.
On the other hand, we're fairly TE-rich at the moment, so maybe Garbutt can stay at DE, Proctor at backer. Porcher starts out at DE & shifts inside once he's been Hilgarted/acquainted with the finest campus food in all of the land. Eh? EH?
Interesting to think about but, it's looking like Proctor is 100% DE, and Porcher is 100% DT.
Johnston, Wardlow & DeBose = DE's I think if we land 2 of them it may open the door for Garbutt on O.
His hudl video is certainly impressive on O. Be interesting to have him as an option.

Not to nitpick, but gauging your overall thoughts on the class. Would you be going from happy to very happy, or very happy to elated?
Personally, I'm butt-cised for this recruiting class, which I would say is at least above very happy.
I keep saying "OK I'm happy with this" but then we land another stud and the ceiling raises. Man this is fun.
So- teaser- I don't know all the details, but expect a live thread (likely behind the TKPC wall) on Signing Day where I will share my thoughts on all the signees.
I try really hard not to be critical of players before they sign their LOI. Kids do read these sites and I don't want to do any kind of harm. That said, there are some verbal commitments that I think will be terrific players, and there are some other verbals who I have some doubts about.
I will say this, while all the kids have to grow accustomed to the conditioning, speed, and power associated with the college game, this staff has done an excellent job of identifying players with high ceilings that also fit the scheme. I would love for them to get an out of nowhere ready to play DT given the depth concerns there, but otherwise I think they have properly addressed needs while upping the talent level.
